| Planets in morning sky Posted: 6/26/2009 2:05:46 AM | | Jupiter is entering Aquarius. Mars and Venus are in conjunction in Aries. Overlooked Mars yesterday the sunlight was too bright, so bright in fact I could not see Jupiter's bright moons with my binoculars. But I was up earlier this morning and had no problem viewing, wasn't forced to get out one of my telescopes. | |

My telescopes broken :(.

| Planets in morning sky Posted: 7/13/2009 12:13:37 PM | I tend to lean more towards deep sky objects instead of our local solar system..... just a personal preference I guess.
Love spending my nights searching for/viewing globular clusters, nebulas, galaxies, etc. I'll never forget the first time I found my very first deep sky object... the hercules globular cluster (M13).... I had the perfect dark skies high in the mountains in BC on a camping trip and could literally count every dot of light from it..... I got all choked up and a tear came to my eye (I kid you not !). Not to mention the great pride I felt when it only took me 15 minutes to find that sweet baby my first time out.
(Even though other deep sky objects afterward have frustrated me to no end before finally finding the wee buggers) *chuckle*
But soooo worth the effort !
I only have one major complaint with my telescope : I hate the "go to" feature on it. It's a royal pain in the butt to try and align. Not to mention it takes out all the fun of searching for objects yourself. So I just manually skew around the skies with the remote control, but one tiny touch of the direction button and the telescope can go way off.... it takes a bit of trial and error. Think I really need to invest in a second scope - smaller and more portable, and no electronics to it whatsoever. Just something I can whip out quickly when I want to check something out and not spend an hour setting up.
Anyone have suggestions/preferences ? A portable tabletop one perhaps ?

| Planets in morning sky Posted: 7/13/2009 12:46:44 PM | | I wish I could see more. I used to, but I moved. I don't have a car so I can't drive out of town. To get anywhere without lots of lights I'd need to drive at least an hour and a half. | |
