I guess we all have our own memories of Michael Jackson.... some good and some not so good....

IMO he was an amazingly talented and gifted musician and dancer who was un-figurable when it came to his some what strange ways and almost mysterious but very public personal life .....

On the good side ...... Personally I will always remember him for his song "Ben" not because I liked it but, because I was horrified to find out that he was singing to a rat!!!! and of course his famous "moonwalk" accompanied by the old "crotch grab" which, each of my boys at some point has tried to master but, failed miserably......
And on the not so good side ..... the controversy that surrounded him concerning his colourful public behaviour, his startling physical transformation and multiple allegations of child abuse all of which, sadly overshadowed an amazing career.

What will you remember him for????? and to take it one step further .... (if you are game)
Do you believe you have some insight into his strangeness????
What made this man tick??? (other than the obvious answers...like young boys etc....) keep it serious guys!

He may have been a "kiddy fiddler" ... but somehow the amounts of money sought and gained by the complainees ...or their parents ... kills any credibility that they might have had. It is strange though that with all the money available Wacko Jacko didn't choose to hire a large public relations firm to "put his side" of the story.

Whatever, grown people should never be in bed alone with a child. It's ust not smart and it may actually be dangerous ... to both.

Life IS stranger than fiction.... they say....

could anyone have written the tale of his life?... before seeing him.. as the muse?....

his "L" wives ,pets and children.... neverneverland?.... scandals... more payouts than the vatican.... maybe... stretched it a bit there....oooops

I guess he just lived his American media driven dream..... and "we" all fed him.... and many fed off him as well...
Thriller was kinda cool with all the corro dance moves in the 80's .... and it was longer that the standard 3 minute video clip of the time..... a small movie....
and.. OF COURSE WE HAD A .. v i d e o !!!...... geez.... hitech back then.... stealing rage clips...

Wish I had his money. Instead of a amusement park I'll take a swimming pool and a golf course in my back yard. ( No kids allowed. )

Well I cant say that Im a MJ fan even though I grew up with his music .....however with the somewhat over the top media saturated coverage (did anything else happen in the world today ?)I must admit I found myself humming along to his music and tapping my feet because the man did write great dance music and yeah he sure could move and entertain....and long term hopefully his music will be his legacy.

The death of anyone at 50 is tragic..its not old at all...and there are many that would envy him...those that linger on in demented states. He had a enviable career and a interesting if not surreal life.

Rewatching all the interviews today about whether he did or didnt....I dont know....he was found innocent by 12 peers so I guess one has to try and believe in the justice system...and I guess if he was guilty, then his answering to the Maker on that one now.....but I also believe that he was also very misguided individual and somewhat naive..this does not make him guilty of any crime..just makes the whole thing very sad because on watching those interviews today...he really does believe in what his saying...

At the end of the day...who are we to judge.??..we only know what the media fed us...and it will be interesting to see in the coming days..if any of his "victims " speak out....

Despite all of that he was a consumate performer who did a lot for charity and brought happiness and pleasure to his many fans............and his private life..should have been his own...as ours are..but wasnt.....and whether we like it or not..he was found innocent.

Was the world a better place for MJ being in it ?..well certainly the music and dance world was..he was iconic....and as for the man himself and his contribution to mankind ..........well thats a question that we all have to ask ourselves one day...he who has no sin caste the first stone etc etc.

Irrespective...the world did lose a great entertainer today and there will never be another like him........only caricatures...and lets face it...how many singers do you know could stir your soul singing a love song about a rat ????

Being an ex muso myself, in my opinion he was one of the most talented songwriters ever !!!, not mention his incredible singing and dancing skills...... A true artist.

He was also one of the fairest and most generous people I have never met, 4 friends and I decided to go to his last Brissy concert, we discussed where we would like to get seats at the concert, my suggestion was to sit right in front of the mixing desk as that was where the best sound would be, this was accepted and the above mentioned seats were booked !!!

We arrived at the venue and headed for the mixing desk, however, the row of seats we had tickets for, were not there !!! An Usher came along and asked what the problem was, after telling her, she told us the row of seats had been removed to extend the VIP area and could we make our way to the rear of the stadium and find some empty seats there!!!.

To cut a long story short, we refused to move and it came down to being threatened with being physically removed from the Stadium. I told them we would leave provided they refunded our money, another long story, but suffice to say we got our refund and left.

I was absolutely outraged at our treatment etc and got on the phone the Touring Company, the Promoter and just about every magazine etc I could think of !!!

About a week later I got a call from a guy who said he worked for Michael Jackson and that Michael had heard we had a problem and the guy was told contact us and fix it.

He asked what we like to make us happy, posters, caps, clothing etc etc etc !!! I said all we wanted was to see MJ in concert in the seats we had queued and bought tickets for !!!

The guy said, there was only one concert left in Australia and that was in Perth, I replied with " So !!! "............... he then said someone would call us later, o9f course I thought OK, thats the end of that, however, we got a call later and was told to be at Brisbane Airport and our plane tickets to Perth would be waiting for us.

We arrived at the airport as told and sure enough, we had tickets to Perth via Melbourne, we were met at the other end by a limosine and taken to MJs hotel and given rooms. We were then taken to the concert in the same travelcade of limos as MJ, we were taken to our seats in the VIP area and watched the most awesome concert ever, the sound system was the best I have ever heard. As the concert ended we taken out the back and this time we were put into the second limo following MJs limo, we escorted by loads of police motorcycles who rode ahead and blocked off all the streets back to the hotel. The following morning we were limo'd back to the airport and flown back to Brissy.

We were told that MJ had paid for everything as he had heard we had been treated badly at his concert and were not happy about it.

He voluntarily paid for 5 people to fly to Perth and back, limo to and from the hotel plus of course our seats at the concert, I agree he may have been a little wacko at times, however, I cannot fault his ethics and the way we were treated, after all, he could have just let it go and no one would be any the wiser.

So.......... Thanks Michael, your generosity was most appreciated RIP

Cool story Ulyssian!

I was stunned to hear about Michael today. (and sad to hear about Farrah) These icons from my younger years...you just sort of assume they will always be a constant and it's jarring to hear that the real person, behind the hype and the legend, has died.

I totally disagree with Hilly. I don't think Michael was a kiddy fiddler. He was an unusual person, yes, but being unusual or different does not in itself make a person guilty of a crime. Unusual people are always held under suspicion. That's how the witch hunts built up steam.

And knee jerk reactions to the horror of kiddy fiddlers...society's general discomfort surrounding affection for kids is tangible. A male friend was telling me a while back about sitting on the beach watching these toddlers frolic about with glee. He was watching and smiling because they were having such fun and giggling, and it was cute. But the kids were also naked. And there came the sudden realisation that someone would probably think he was a child molester having a perve, so he pointedly looked away. We will happily watch puppies and kittens play, but we deny ourselves the joy of enjoying little humans...in case someone says we're a pervert. Men in particular are made to squirm. Like the Dad who got in trouble for taking a photo of his own kid at a swimming carnival cos only perverts take photos of little kids, hey.

So with those sorts of undercurrents... a man who wears unusual clothes, talks in a high pitched voice, and engages in behaviour we don't understand (like what he did to his nose)...well someone like that is gonna cop suspicion worse than anyone. But a weird nose doesn't make a person a child molester... or a witch.

And... if someone molested my child, for real, I wouldn't take compensation and walk away. Would you? I'd want them in jail and would have pursued it til he was. If those parents who took the money honestly believed MJ molested their kids, but took money in order to drop their complaints...didn't they basically sell their kids? I think it far more likely that they made it up to extort money from him, and the public just went "yeah he is probably guilty cos he has a stupid nose and does weird sh1t to his skin".

I honestly think he just adored kids...missed out on a lot of his own childhood...was compensating by gaining enjoyment from playing with kids and giving them toys and exciting trips and new experiences that his wealth could buy. No doubt he had some issues, but I reckon if he got off on anything, it was probably seeing the joy and wonder in their faces. He was a one man make-a-wish foundation. He preferred the company of children. And he bonded with them, and showed them affection... like one kid to another, was always my impression. And he liked cuddling them. In bed. Get over it. I sometimes let my dogs sleep in bed with me cos they are gorgeous to cuddle, and I seem to manage to refrain from feeling them up or fukcing them.

I watched that interview where he tried to explain it. I only saw innocence and confusion about how other people were making it into something dirty. He explained it like a child would. He shouldn't have tried cos people only gasped when they heard mention of a bed...as if beds aren't also used for sleeping in, reading in, sitting and talking in...and as if a man can't cuddle a kid without getting aroused.

Sad loss of a very talented human being, who failed at being average.

I totally disagree with Hilly.

Oh no...fark...does that not mean by forum rules we cant be friends anymore??

Each to their own I guess. Im never glad to hear anyone has died but I cant raise much sympathy for this man im afraid.

If someone molested my child, would I take a payout to shut up?........hell no. But on the flip side of the coin, I guess you could ask yourself why an innocent man would want to pay huge sums of money to shut people up and make them go away. Im sure he had his reasons (apart from guilt) just as im sure the parents had their own misguided logic behind their decisions to allow him to get away with what he did.

And he liked cuddling them. In bed. Get over it.

I dont think that is something you can just "get over". I really dont think you can draw any kind of comparison between a woman cuddling your own dog in bed and a grown man cuddling someone elses unrelated small child in bed...chalk and cheese.

Still love the song "Il'e be there" though.

Fraid so. You now have to troll my posts and make snide comments about animals, cruelty, greenies, & hobby farmers where ever possible and send out emails about how evil I am.

Only in relation to the associations you choose to apply to it. I've had the occasional person on here write to me and accuse me of being an animal fukcer because of photos of me cuddling various animals I've had on my profile. To me, they're the weirdos for having those thoughts and seeing perversion where there is only affection. And I figure MJ probably felt much the same about his accusers.

That would be Dow Corning wouldn’t it?

Do you believe you have some insight into his strangeness????

I don’t think there is any real mystery here. He was never allowed to be a child, and at the same time never really allowed to grow up, he was simply just made to be a performer, brought up in a bubble and never given any connection with, or experience of reality. His upbringing and his life were as artificial as the nose on his face.
I don’t believe he was a paedophile in the sense that he was sexually attracted to children, I think he genuinely had kids over for sleep overs because he couldn’t relate to adults (probably couldn’t relate to children either, but what kid wouldn’t want to hang out at his house) and in a way was probably making up for not having a proper childhood.

None of this detracts from the fact that he was an astonishing singer and performer. I was never really into his style of music but I could certainly appreciate his talent. I also grew up with older sisters so I know all his songs and have some fond memories associated with them…And yeah I was shocked and saddened to hear of his death, not like when I first heard that Elvis was dead, I just though he was some old fat guy that sang boring songs.

Personally I will always remember him for his song "Ben" not because I liked it but, because I was horrified to find out that he was singing to a rat!!!

Funny, I thought that made it all the more cooler.

Wow that’s a pretty bold, broad sweeping statement…I have often had my kids in bed with me, as a single parent and as a couple.

This question kind of assumes that everyone else is perfect and/or normal. Which person on this planet does not have some aspect to them which others look at as being strange? So far I haven't met a person who is completely fault free. I'm certainly not! And I never want anyone to think of me as being so. My personal faults are what makes me the individual that I am. Otherwise I might as well pretend to be some kind of robot. I know there are people I've met who like to delude themselves into thinking they're perfect. Good luck to them with that.

Just let the dead rest in peace. It doesn't do anyone any good to criticise someone who has died.

I will remember Michael for his talent as a true artist!!!!

I feel for Michael and his tormented soul, I believe he was set up my the media. He was a target because of his dysfuntion and didn't subscribe to the mainstream of life...yes he was different to say the least.... who are we to judge we did not lead his life. WE have seen happen time and time again as people build up and there with bated breath to tear you down and see you fall pointing fingers all the way.....

God Bless Michael may you rest in peace and privacy....Finally!!!

My first thought? "Well now some kids are safe". To the posters who say not to judge and that we will never know the truth about what he did or did not do:

How many men do you know have sleepovers with young boys and have them stay in their bed? Would you date one or confess to being one of those men? I think not.

Do you not remember the interview in which he stated that it's totally normal and ok to have young boys in your bed (this from a 40 something man) and that it's L O V E (a common belief with pedophiles)? ~ Sick. Sick. Sick.

I think that as much as he was admired for his music, his sickness touched people too and sadly, he will be remembered for that also.

I was on air [radio] when i got the news and really had a teary time lining up his songs to play and then to comment . I grieve for him , for his life from his childhood to his death . I have absorbed the media circus and all the pics. of his stange appearance and still cannot rid my mind of the belief I have , that he was a true innocent . Can't post more , so many people have so many facts to wave in your face but now he's out of the hell his life became . Still anytime I heard him interviewed i never felt here is an evil man . Maybe we project some of our own 'dicey' thoughts onto Michael and other 'innocents' .

Yeah very cool. That kind of power can have more influence than any amount of money.
My dad had a car repair shop and on one friday at 5:00 pm some music producer needed his car fixed. He said what are you crazy it's 5:00 friday. He said no problem let me talk to your mechanic, a young guy. After giving him 4 front row passes to the biggest sold out concert of the decade the car was running like a charm, even though it took him well into his friday night. Something thousands of dollars could never accomplish.
On topic I wish I could moonwalk.

Me neither..... This was the point of the post ... to perhaps get those interested to think a little deeper and maybe post something more than what many other forums are putting out there. All too often some take on board only what the media say .... If MY story was printed in "media" language.... I would be locked away in some twilight home branded as "the nortorious woman who lived in the shoe!!" ....... The media thrive on the negatives and thrash them until they are all that is left of the person....in the eyes of the rest of the world.

As pointed out here.... If someone molested my child I would not stop at anything less than "jail for life".

As for sleeping with children..... I wish someone would tell my kids that this was socially un-acceptable...might allow me to sleep in past 5.30am.

Were these children complete strangers to Michael???..... I was under the impression that they were spending copious amounts of time with him. If this was the case ...he may have become more than just an acquaintance but, possibly a father like figure to the kids..... Regardless.... accepting money as opposed to gaining justice speaks volumes to me......
