| Are Irish Men Shallow Posted: 6/26/2009 6:03:30 AM | | Inspired by the thread below I thought I would ask the question of our lads. I know for a fact that their are plenty of deep and interesting guys out there cause I've dated them in the past have brothers and friends and even chatted to a few here, BUT there are a lot of guys here who dont seem to have a lot to say for themselves.... beer and sport brigade. Where are the intelligent opinionated witty guys on POF?? | |

| Are Irish Men Shallow Posted: 6/26/2009 7:15:48 AM | Hello from the Antipodes !
It's a well worn question from both sexes. Are we shallow indeed ? You have to take into context where we are for a start, and why we are here online searching for that elusive someone.
Maybe the deep, witty opinionated types are doing very well in the 'real' world of dating ?!
It seems most are discerning more than shallow, seeking 100 points in a potential partner only to pull out of things if only 99 are successfully reached. Does this make them shallow ? No, I think it makes them unreactistically hopeful !
Shallow people really shouldn't be wasting there time here.

| Are Irish Men Shallow Posted: 6/26/2009 5:12:40 PM | Firstly I would like to ask you to define what you mean by shallow. Apparently soccer has an appeal for intellectuals. It encapsulates deep rooted human concerns with striving, setting objectives and teamwork which in turn encourages comradeship, co-operation, respect for ones rivals, a sense of fair play and admiration for ingenuity and sheer artistry. These are hardly shallow traits? On the other hand there are the hooligans – well what can we say about them, they defile the sport seemingly as they swill their beer, while abusing their rivals with highly skilled and focussed head-butting techniques! I'm told it takes years to perfect the precise methodology in order to split your opponents skull while leaving your own cranium relatively undamaged. I expect the ideal hooligan needs a ‘deep’ layer of bone in the forehead in order to shatter the ‘shallow’ bone covering the head of his unfortunate victim. Perhaps the victims are the deeper intellectuals who attend the sport only to be pulverised by the Neanderthals and left for dead at the stadiums. They never make it home to log on to POF! Instead when the hooligans sober up they try their luck on POF for a laugh. | |

| Are Irish Men Shallow Posted: 6/28/2009 11:05:40 AM | | I'm not suggesting soccer isn't appreciated by intellectual men, just as many intellectual women appreciate fashion, and it could be argued a woman with a flair for fashion is expressive and creative, however when trying to market herself on a dating site she rarely cites her love for shoes and Vogue as a selling point to nab a guy! The intellectual sport lovers usually expand on their interests, the beer and sports brigade rarely have any other. No offence to deep intellectual sports fans intended. | |

| Are Irish Men Shallow Posted: 7/3/2009 6:16:51 PM | I apologise if my post ends up coming off as heavily arrogant, but it probably will.
Most people are shallow. I don't think it has anything to do with the country you come from, but Ireland is a small place so there aren't as man fish in the sea to pick from, so to speak.
Me? I consider myself smart, intelligent, opinionated. The problem I have is trying to find a woman of a similar attitude, but most people of my age seem to be far too busy being reckless and hedonistic, so it's a bit like playing in an empty field. *laughs*
They're there. You just have to find them.

| Are Irish Men Shallow Posted: 7/3/2009 6:30:15 PM | I'm intelligent and witty. Bit I also like beer and sports. And I'm pretty shallow. They're not mutually exclusive.
Maybe you're not meeting witty intelligent guys as they can't stand narrow mindedness?

Maybe you're not meeting witty intelligent guys as they can't stand narrow mindedness? I imagine the lady is probably referring to the type who have *all* the latter qualities without possessing *any* of the former.

| Are Irish Men Shallow Posted: 7/3/2009 6:48:26 PM | | No, men who like beer and sports, but have absolutely no brains, nothing to say about the world, little motivation or imagination, etc. etc. | |

| Are Irish Men Shallow Posted: 7/4/2009 6:01:32 AM | | thanks luthion for defending me in my absence! Yes I was referring to the type who only like beer and sports. I myself quite like beer and some sport too, but there is so much more! And as for being accused of being narrow minded, hmmm is looking for someone who has a wide variety of interests and opinions who is capable of good conversation narrow minded?? Is not settling for someone I have nothing in common with narrow minded?? Jeeze, then that would imply that all those confident articulate witty intelligent people out there are narrow minded. | |

| Are Irish Men Shallow Posted: 7/4/2009 7:30:29 PM | I don't give a damn about soccer. I guess it doesn't really matter what I say here anyway. I'm invisible here anyway. | |

|
| Are Irish Men Shallow Posted: 7/5/2009 4:48:14 PM | When I went to student parties I hung out with the intellectuals…………………………………probably explains why I missed out on all that fumbling in the bed………………………alas missed opportunities! | |
