| Spybot and ESET NOD32 .... Posted: 6/27/2009 9:18:09 AM | ESET NOD32 told me to uninstall Spybot.. when I went to go do it Spybot gave me a pop-up saying that it was false to ask this and it was ok to have both installed.
Yes I know that two anti-virus are bad or so we are told.. I never had two installed, but what is the deal. Why am I being told I can't have both, then told I can!

I ditched spybot awhile back for malwarebytes. have had no problems since!
I do however have it installed on my other system with nod32 av v4.0 and have no issues.
- Are you running their security suite or just the antivirus? - Did NOD32 detect it a specific virus name or just a general warning?

| Spybot and ESET NOD32 .... Posted: 6/27/2009 1:01:38 PM | I should have explained myself a bit better. My Bad.
Nod32 av v4.0 to me to lose Spybot because it was not allowed, it was a general warning about the Spybot.
Spybot tells me yes I can have both and nod32 av v4.0 is lying (in not so many words) :)
I get one is Virus and one is Spy. But why is nod32 av v4.0 telling me no I can't? Oh I am ditching 4.0 for Eset Smart Security -Buisness Edition- V3.0. (for personal reasons YARR)

A Potentially Unwanted Program warning? Bleh, I hit ignore on most of those, for "personal" reasons heh.
Hate to break it to you, but their "Business Edition", the only difference is the remote administration, the rest is exactly the same.

Actually, EOD32 is mostly written in assembly code, so it won't slow it down AS much as the rest of the other crap lol. I'll still stick with hardware firewalls rather than software though.

AVG is horrible, too many false positives, and has horrible detection rates, you're better off with avast if you want something free.

AVG has come a long way, but it has left a lot of bad taste in the mouths of millions.
There are other notes under the reception section, but I chose not to put them here, to show you the consumer rating, which was 2.5 of 10, that is pretty bad, the worst of any REAL anti virus company I have seen.
Choose what you want, if you like it, stick with it, but never rely on only one piece of software to protect you.
Examples here:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/AVG_(software)
Issues
* When uninstalling most versions of AVG in Windows XP/Vista and attempting to install other anti-virus programs such as Kaspersky Anti-Virus or Norton AntiVirus; they will not install, instead showing an incompatible software installed error even if AVG has been uninstalled using the control panel. This happens because AVG has made registry entries while installing and this has not been removed even after uninstall.[18] * A signature update dated November 9, 2008 crippled some computers as it allowed the software to think "user32.dll", a major component of Windows XP/Vista, was a trojan and advised users to delete it. Users who deleted the file in question were put on a continuous reboot loop. The problem was rectified a few days later with a new signature database (270.9.0/1778).[19]
Reception * At CNET.com AVG 8.0 received a review of 7.0/10 from CNET editors, and a review of 2.5/10 from consumers.[22]

| Spybot and ESET NOD32 .... Posted: 6/29/2009 11:28:41 PM | To the OP, NOD32 does have a bit of a conflict with spybot, so it recommends uninstalling it. Malwarebytes is a good program and runs well with NOD32. I've been using NOD32 for 4 years now and would not switch for love nor money.
prettyfly4wguy, you'rse still young. Hopefully you'll eventually learn not to believe everything you've been told. AVG has a way kewl user interface that is cute when you see it catch a virus. Gives you real comfort to be able to SEE its working. Except for the fact it misses half the viruses that come into your computer. NOD32 is not glowy, flashy, poppy or cutzie. Most the time you have no idea its caught a virus, but its success rate is almost three times higher than AVG. To me its worth the cost. I work on computers daily and have spent hours trying to clean viruses out of machines running Free antivirus software. Its hard to put your trust in them when you can see the damage they can cause by lulling the end users into a false sense of security.
