Posted: 6/28/2009 9:27:01 PM | | Just curious i have noticed a lot of women on here list fishing,hiking, camping,even working on cars as interests.Now dont get me wrong i think these are great attributes for anyone (male or female) I'm just wondering how honest these statements are? for instance will you camp in a tent ,(no bathroom?) will you hook your own bait....etc.... I only ask because i have run into these kittle white lies once or twice before. I dont understand why people would feel the need to lie about such trivial things | |

But as to your why, I'd have to say it's the same reason people lie about their age - they don't really care if they're what you're looking for as long as you give them a chance to write/call/date them because of course once you get to know them it won't matter that they were misleading  (yeesh) | |

That's why when I see profiles of guys who put sports, well they should go on a gay site because that will attract other men, not women. You put the bait out there that will net the highest return. That reminds me, I have to add to my interests of flatulation and motoboarding.

I also go on to add that I can pitch my own tent, catch my own bait, etc. I have also restored old cars and enjoyed many other traditionally 'male' activities. I have other female friends who have similar interests. I also have female friends whose idea of roughing it is a Holiday Inn with no room service.
If you want to know if the poster is legitimate in her interests, try asking about her favorite camping or fishing spots, choice of bait, etc.
I cannot imagine why one would lie about interests - it would only serve to attract someone with whom she would not likely be compatible. | |

Posted: 6/28/2009 9:48:20 PM | Hmmmmm......well, I like the idea of fishing sometimes and have actually done it {as long as there's someone who will put the bait on and take the fish off the hook once it's reeled in}. I like camping {used to do it a lot} but that's changed a bit over the years. There's a difference between what might be expressed as in interest, a fun 'activity' to try one's hand at, liking something, and actually seeking to participate in an activity out of sheer enjoyment.
All you have to do is simply talk about it; you'll get enough information to figure out what their level of 'like' is.
Why do people lie about things? Who knows, really. It sure can make life complicated for them though. | |

It may be somthing that you enjoy doing with an SO, but to have it listed as an interest is pushing the lines of telling them what they want to hear. | |

Perhaps what they really mean is this... Love camping, however that means a RV, or cabin... Work on cars, had to figure out how to change a tire, and didn't kill myself doing it.. Love fishing, ok, to sit and get sun if you have a nice boat... Bait you own damn hook, and if I happen to put a pole out do mine as well....Ummm please... Love the country, meaning anything that has a mall or good shopping near by, why the hell would anyone live so far out not to be able to shop...
I used to own my own fishing boat, have my own power tools, and the kind that cuts wood, metal, PVC piping, sanders, favorite tool dremel, looking for a small scroll saw...
Have worked on many vehicles, did you know how badly you can get shocked if your vehicle is missing and you take each spark plug off one at a time???
Love fishing, however due to my neck injury from time to time I manage to catch a lot of people on the dock by miscasting... Meh, guys don't mind casting for me, saves a full dock from getting beaned in the head with a sturgeon hook, and 8 to 12 oz of weight...
I would suggest if you are worried the gal is lying, and these things are that important you ask her what kind of fish she fishes for, and how she likes to set up her rig... Want to know about cars, talk about the need for a tune up, camping, ask where her favorite place is and if she has roughed going up what ever place you go...
That why you can see if they are lying, and decide if they may be full of them self with bs, OR their idea of things that are different from yours... | |

Posted: 6/28/2009 9:54:07 PM | Yes, some of us women like this stuff. I love camping, have my own tent, and will gladly hike far, far away from bathrooms. It's quieter and more secluded there! I have also camped with my female friends - girls only - but on a girls' weekend we tend to do the campsite-with-bathrooms-nearby thing.
You can't get me to impale a worm, though. Or clean a fish. Or eat it. I'll gladly chat quietly in a boat while YOU fish if you really need the company... but why not bring/go with guy friends for that?

I sometimes think there are some people who tend to lists certain activities that they don't do, just to impress the opposite sex.
Honestly, this is just an assumption, and I don't see the point.
I don't camp nor go fishing.
As a matter of fact, I have never done either. Doesn't mean I wouldn't give either activity a try. | |

I also like to do some atypical things like fix computers and improve my car and actively renovate a house (that means doing a lot of the work, not just paying someone to do it). I dont see any point in lying about anything anyway. It doesnt accomplish anything and its gonna look pretty stupid when someone finds out. | |

For instance, I didn't know if I went fishing with you, OP, that you'd make me bait my own hook! Dang. And I didn't know if that means we get up at 5a.m. when the fish are still sleeping, or if it means we hang out in a relaxed atmosphere by the riverside.
When someone says "hike," does that mean a 30 mile death march with 60-lb packs or something slightly more strenuous than a stroll with boots?
Rather than calling them "lies," I prefer to think that women who say they enjoy those activities have actually enjoyed them. They just may not define them as you do. | |
