| Indie musique anyone? :D Posted: 6/30/2009 10:23:12 AM | Anybody here into indie? Its the weirdest term, and can be used in pretty different ways (I mean dido calls herself "indie" on her myspace), but I'm talking about bands along the lines of Iron and Wine, Cloud Cult, Regina Spektor, Rilo Kiley, Death Cab For Cutie, Eisley, Stars,Vampire Weekend, The Shins, The New Pornographers, Iron and Wine, The Decemberists, Azure Ray, Band of Horses, Neko Case, Calexico etc..
I think the sad thing is that I've kind of subconsciously convinced myself that my soulmate is gonna have the same taste in music as me... but to find someone who has my taste, is attractive to me, *and* close by... there aren't that many options. I found someone who was like my musical soulmate, but turned out to be a dud personality wise...

| Indie musique anyone? :D Posted: 6/30/2009 10:39:46 PM | | lol Try finding your music soulmate living in small town NH! My problem is that I like a little bit of everything so I can relate to anyones music to a degree but very few can relate to the stuff I have the deepest connection to. As for your question, I like the indie stuff that isn't afraid of a little pop sensibility like and own all of Regina Spektor (love the new c.d. Far) and both of Eisleys! Decemberist (I have The Crane Wife) aren't bad and I'm slowly getting into Iron and Wine. I like a couple of songs by the Shins, Death Cab For Cutie and Band of Horses as well. My personal favorites indie or indie labels bands are South FM (broken up), City and Colour, David Ford, Katie Trotta, M83 and One Less Reason. If you include more mainstream indie labels like Tooth and Nail, Vagrant, etc. I could name tons more but I'll try to stay within boundaries. lol | |

| Indie musique anyone? :D Posted: 7/1/2009 12:41:07 PM | Well back in my day Indie bands were ones that actualy signed up on independant lables, nothing to do with genre of music.
If you are meaning alternative, then yes.
I must admit i am a bit of a music snob, cant be doing with mainstream stuff but its what most people seem to be into on this site. I have found the alternative kind of lifestyles dating sites have a way better class of members who are a bit more open minded than here which seems very mainstreem.
But yeah it helps if you find someone with similar music taste as music and art taste say a lot about a person.
Ops sorry, i didnt mean better class of person, i meant more open minded and a bit less errrrmmmm oh chav maybe, i dunno.

| Indie musique anyone? :D Posted: 7/1/2009 10:15:15 PM | | I like both worlds of music! The underground, indie, etc. and the mainstream! What I hate is choosing one over the other! :) I haven't even found a forum, nevermind a person, that feels the same way with the exception of one or two friends I've known forever. | |

| Indie musique anyone? :D Posted: 7/3/2009 1:47:13 AM | | Indie originally meant bands which were not signed up to major labels. However these days it is just the name given to rock bands which is more underground in its appeal (Kings of Leon for example have migrated from 'underground' to 'mainstream' I will discuss about this change). I tend to prefer the 'underground' Indie stuff being produced today than the 'mainstream' stuff. For example one of my favorite groups is the Kings of Leon, but I much prefer their first two albums which were very indie over the last two which were much more 'mainstream'. | |

| Indie musique anyone? :D Posted: 7/3/2009 11:26:49 AM | Yeah, that's why I said that the term is confusing. "Indie" bands are more often referring to a style than being on an independent label, and underground is kind of a contradictory term in of itself- I mean, once an "underground" band has a wide following, its not really underground anymore? So all these terms "indie" "alternative" can be adopted for a lot of different styles and bands Personally, I don't care if a band "sells out" as long as I like the music.
Dang, I used a lot of quotes in this post :D

| Indie musique anyone? :D Posted: 7/3/2009 12:34:40 PM | My daughter turned me on to Regina Specktor , I also enjoy Fiest, and a lot of the singer songwriters that come through town , like Jennefer Daniels.
Mainstream music these days leaves a lot to be desired .
