Possible to fix the bad quality of upload photos?
Posted: 7/2/2009 7:29:45 AM
Stupid photo uploader messes up the quality of my pics and its annoying lol.
Anyway to fix this? I tried different formats but that didnt seem to help too much.
I thought maybe it was my pic because its from a cellphone and perhaps it was too small so that when it got uploaded it got blown up. So I doubled the size of the pic just by putting a thick border around it, but that didnt seem to work either.. lol

Any ideas? Or is it forever going to suck?

POF tends to resize and recompress the images, probably to save them bandwidth. As a result, the recompressed images look bad.

There's not much you can do to fix it. You can try maybe resizing them to something smaller yourself, but i'm not 100% on what exact sizes they store thier photos in internally.

Camera phone pictures don't handle being recompressed too well. There's generally a lot of noise in the photo due to the cheap optics and cheap sensors used...this noise reaks havoc with JPEG compression.

Don't add a border to your image, it won't help. Doubling generally isn't the way to go. Unless your camera phone photos are smaller than 640x480, you shouldn't have a problem. You might try reducing them in size to 320x240 using an image program that'll do it right, see if that helps you any.

My camera-phone pictures are insanely huge and they don't look too bad.

Resize the photos in a photo editor like IrfanView to no more than 400 x 300 , save them as a *.jpg file and you shouldn't have any problems.

( Resize the photos by preserving the original aspect ratio to prevent any distortion )

If you have a 2 Mp camera on your cell phone , set the photo size to 640 x 480 or 800 x 600 and after you take the pics , reduce the size of the pics to half their original size by using a photo editor like IrfanView.
