| Gnats, Wasps and other useless creatures! Posted: 7/2/2009 5:26:42 PM | Evening all.
After being bitten on the left buttock and then the back of the neck (no not like that!! Would have prefered that) by a gnat i got to wondering why on earth they were ever created in the first place. They don't seem to have a purpose. Same as Wasps, they aren't like Bees who produce honey and only sting if they are in danger of dying themselves. They sting anything and everything. My theory is that Wasps are jealous of Bees because they have far better coats and therefore take this out on the rest of the world. Is there a reason for these nasty beasties?
Is there a creature you think it totally pointless and cannot understand why they were created?

| Gnats, Wasps and other useless creatures! Posted: 7/2/2009 5:50:33 PM | Yeah, let's be honest here people... what use are humans?
We are the most bloody useless creatures on this planet, all we do is sleep, eat, drink, multiply, destroy and poo. If you bothered to educate yourself, every organism has a purpose to be part of the food chain cycle and eco system apart from us.
What good are we on this planet? What do we contribute and benefit to all?
BTW - Earwigs rock, if you are a gardener, they help protect your crops/veg from other insects.

| Gnats, Wasps and other useless creatures! Posted: 7/2/2009 5:50:55 PM | I got bitten yesterday by a gnat on my back right on my waistline..itches like hell..
I detest wasps, mossies, bitey critters...heck I'm scared of spiders but they have a purpose at least!
May bugs...what the hell do they do apart from randomly come in your window and crash into you???
The horrid little things are all pointless! (as are communists..fair point Gary)

| Gnats, Wasps and other useless creatures! Posted: 7/2/2009 6:24:26 PM | Here in Texas we have:
Yellow jackets...a very aggressive form of small wasp. Stings like a dull needle.
Fire ants... wait to attack until many have gathered on your leg or foot, and then all sting at once.
Ticks...They bite and suck blood till you find them or they bloat up on your goods.

| Gnats, Wasps and other useless creatures! Posted: 7/2/2009 7:23:13 PM | We just are trying to trap earwigs that are in our garden. My neighbor who has the cats sets the traps, and I have to be the Grim Reaper and dispose of the bodies.
She and I are both vegetarian, so she chose soy sauce for the traps in the cat food cans. I am going to buy a pound of bacon for my carnivorous canine and use the bacon drippings instead.
I asked what good on the food chain Canadian Soldiers are good for, and I was told that the fish eat them.

| Gnats, Wasps and other useless creatures! Posted: 7/3/2009 2:28:03 PM | Bloody right mate. Commies more'n likely were an escaped lab experiment, similar to africanized bees down in S. America - They like to swarm and attack innocents.
My vote is Mosquitos. Useless buggers. If ever a WMD were needed!
Chiggers!

| Gnats, Wasps and other useless creatures! Posted: 7/3/2009 3:34:26 PM | | I tell you what is a useless creature. Fruit flies. The little Kamikaze beggers can't get enough of my Pinot Grigio, they dive in, and boy do they cause damage! I have a special sieve to get the little feckers out! But what can those miniscule little organisms rustle up for us? Not much in the way on nutrition for other animals, are they? | |

He didn't actually murder them, (it would be physically impossible without WMDs)
One doesn't actually have to physically kill someone in order to be considered a 'mass-murderer' . Check these links:

So do I!

I cannot think of one, but it's worth considering that perhaps mankind was placed in this rock to annoy insects? After all, insects have been around for ever, and will probably outlast the human race (they certainly saw the last of the dinosaurs), yet every so often, God sends round another type of creature to upset insects.

| Gnats, Wasps and other useless creatures! Posted: 7/8/2009 1:42:09 AM | ha ha! I was looking for a thread on a different subject, came across this, funny distraction!
The most pointless insect I have come to figure, are headlice! Every other insect forms part of the food chain - every other insect I can think of is usually food for something bigger, either other insects, birds, frogs or small mammals (or in the case of anteaters, larger animals!)
But headlice (and in fact you can count fleas and other parasitic insects) are not eaten by anything. They just live in school carpets and curtains and infect kids, feasting from human blood and breeding and don't contribute a jot to the wider food chain.
Gnats are devious, hide in your dressing gown and bite you.
Spiders have evil minds but are mostly harmless unless you live in Africa, US or Australia, where there are those that hide in shoes and kill you!
Daddy long legs are known to my brother as "flying spiders"
And lastly, the worst are silverfish. Half insect, half fish, half deadly metallic liquid (they look like little slivers of mercury) they freak me out!!!
