Sarah Palin Stepping Down As Alaska Gov. Lt. Gov. Sean Parnell To Fill Office After Palin Resigns
POSTED: 3:06 pm EDT July 3, 2009 UPDATED: 3:49 pm EDT July 3, 2009
Gov. Sarah Palin will resign her office in a few weeks, she said during a news conference at her Wasilla home Friday morning.
Palin said she would step down, rebutting earlier reports that she would simply not seek reelection.
In her place, she said Lt. Gov. Sean Parnell will be inaugurated at the Governor's Picnic at Pioneer Park in Fairbanks on Saturday, July 25, Palin said.
The reports gave no immediate word as to why she will resign. Rumors have been swirling about her possible run at a 2012 Republican presidential nomination. I was surprised she didn't resign after her defeat in the election, but to read that there is a rumor about her running, does she really have supporters?

I know, I know, she can't and she's American etc, but this is this first politician, in a long time that has come along, that I would actually like to vote for. If I were an American, I certainly would.

I cant believe Ms. Palin really believes she has a chance to be a front runner in the GOP, or does she?
My guess she is going to cash in on her celebrity...Fox News Channel show, books, Talking engagements.

| Sarah Palin Stepping Down As Alaska Gov. Running for Pres. 2012? Posted: 7/3/2009 2:02:54 PM | She couldn't compete in the primary debates. I think conservatives suffered from buyers remorse when she landed on the Republican ticket. They probably wish they had put Romney on the ballot. They won't let Romney get away next time. Especially in favor of a nit wit like hockey mom is.
She couldn't think of one Supreme Court decision when Katie Couric asked her that "gotcha question." Republicans got all pissed off at Couric when all she did was ask a question most high schoolers can answer. "Sarah's not dumb. Katie just asked her a tough question."
After the election we found out that she asked one of the people vetting her if South Africa it the same country as Africa. This chick is dumber than Bush. It amazes me that Republicans are drawn to morons. It gives them a bad name when they keep seeking these bumblers as their leaders.
I wouldn't be surprised if someone or something is forcing her out of office. She's probably been caught doing something corrupt and is getting out before the fire gets hot.

My guess she is going to cash in on her celebrity...Fox News Channel show, books, Talking engagements. Good point because the David Letterman 15 seconds are over and if she doesn't grab onto something else now, she can't profit.

Will these people are NOT the real republicans I grew up with..Some republicans in fact most of the ones I personally know are really good hearted people.
I agree. What happened to the Republicans who had the political idea of getting government the hell out of people's lives except when needed.

| Sarah Palin Stepping Down As Alaska Gov. Running for Pres. 2012? Posted: 7/3/2009 2:17:44 PM | Makes me wonder what's coming up that she knew she needed to be out of the Governor's Office before it hit the proverbial fan...(I think that made sense)...
I would not vote for Palin for any office--and, as someone else pointed out--this does not look good for her wanting to run for the Oval Office in 2012...

| Sarah Palin Stepping Down As Alaska Gov. Running for Pres. 2012? Posted: 7/3/2009 3:08:31 PM | | I can't see this as a move towards a 2012 run. No matter how incompetent her handlers are, they can't possibly think that resigning mid-term is a good idea. I'm betting on the "making a lot of money" option (probably TV), with "she's having an affair that she wants to keep quiet" running a distant 2nd. | |

| Sarah Palin Stepping Down As Alaska Gov. Running for Pres. 2012? Posted: 7/3/2009 3:22:58 PM | Stepping down has nothing to do with a run for Pres. She didn't didn't step down for the VP run. There's something fishy here. No one has ever stepped down unless they were being indicted or was skirting some sort of scandal. I can't wait to see what's at the bottom of this decision.
This is a dumb move if she wants to be president. Three candidates in the last election were sitting governors. Her reasoning is that she can better serve her cause if she weren't governor. WTF! What cause? She told the people of Alaska that she wanted to be their leader, they voted her in, and now she doesn't want to be their leader. She's a quitter. Try runing for President when people in the press are calling you a quitter.

As in the final nail in their coffin. It's such a shame that my party lost it's way and became a fanatic fringe group when the ideas of Conservative government are so important while the GOP has lost all touch with it except just talking points in between their theocratic self-righteousness, hatred, indignation, and fear mongering.
But I always said that we'd see her on a mid-morning talk show and after she either loses in 2012 or the GOP miraculously comes to their senses then that's where we'll see her with Tom Cruise jumping on her couch.

Posted: 7/3/2009 3:37:19 PM | One interesting thing I've read is that by resigning, Palin gives her Lt.Gov. a boost for the next gubernatorial election. As a sitting Governor, Sean Parnell would have the advantage over the competition.
From The Moderate Voice:
UPDATE: MSNBC is now reporting that sources tell Andrea Mitchell than Palin is out of politics for good. They indicate this is NOT a first step in a 2012 campaign for President but her decision to shift from political candidate to some sort of pundit type.
I agree that there certainly seems to be more behind this story that meets the eye, perhaps a new scandal or possibly some personal family issue.
While most of us were thinking we might see a Governor resign sometime this week it turns out to be a different person than expected. Former VP nominee Sarah Palin has announced she will resign as Governor effective on July 25, 2009.
One wonders how this will impact her political future, to the degree she has one.

| Sarah Palin Stepping Down As Alaska Gov. Running for Pres. 2012? Posted: 7/3/2009 6:05:06 PM | Two and a half years as Governor of Alaska qualifies her as a Presidential candidate? Watching and listening to her during the campaign and afterward made it obvious she isn't the best choice for the job. Even if she did win, the media and opposition would eat her alive. If the Independents got their crap together and came up with an actual decent candidate...Nah...too much to hope for.
Sadly, some will vote for her simply because she is a woman, or is deemed to be "good-looking", or they've seen her in a bathing suit in some tabloid. Yeah, those are good reasons for voting someone in as President. Putting her up for the 2012 elections would be a gigantic waste of resources.
I'd vote for Colin Powell, but he's already turned the job offer down once.

Only because ... she and her family have become a laughing stock ... on the Comedy circuit ...
That alone ... would make me quit ............
