Is this possible? If someone sends me a message is there not a way for them to not know that it was read if I read it?

op, you've gotten your answer. but, i wonder why you care whether someone can see you've read the message. if you're not interested, and never reply, that will send the "i'm not interested" message. if you are interested, there's no harm in replying a few days later; you just say, "i read your message, but because of work [or whatever], i couldn't reply until now." no harm, no foul. it's really no big deal. honestly, i don't get why people are afraid to state where they see things going. about 90% of the time, i respond as i get mail. sometimes i can't, and reply a day or so later. whether it's positive or negative, i don't leave people hanging. imho, i think that is game-playing. frankly, i can't be bothered with it. everyone handles online dating in their own fashion - you just need to figure out what works for you.

If you delete the message without reading it and the person who sent it deletes the sent message, you can then go to your contact list and read the message leaving the impression that the message wasn't read. However, if the person doesn't delete the sent message, the unread/deleted will change to read/deleted.
