Former Tennessee Titans quarterback Steve McNair has been killed, a source has confirmed to ESPN.com.
McNair, police said, suffered a fatal gunshot wound to the head in downtown Nashville. A female victim was also found dead, police spokesperson Don Aaron said. Aaron said the women has not been identified, pending notification of next of kin.
The incident happened near 2nd South & Lea Ave in Nashville.
McNair played 13 seasons in the NFL, 11 were with the Tennessee Titans. He played his final two years with the Baltimore Ravens, retiring after the 2007 season.
McNair was picked third overall in the 1995 draft out of Alcorn State by the then Houston Oilers. | |

There has been no info released by metro police dept,including where the gun shot wound was.I think the rumor mills need to stop.It would be a shame if his children got online and read this garbage. | |

Titans' Owner releases statement on Steve McNair's death
NASHVILLE, Tenn. - Former Titans quarterback Steve McNair has been killed. Police said McNair suffered a fatal gunshot wound to the head in downtown Nashville.
The incident happened near 2nd Avenue South & Lea Avenue in a residence Steve McNair was renting.
The call came into police at 1:35 p.m. A crowd began to gather in the area where Steve McNair's body was found Saturday afternoon.

"When police officers arrived in response to that call, they found two individuals who had been shot to death inside the residence: one female, one male. We now know that the male deceased is Steve McNair. The female deceased has been tentatively identified. We're working to confirm that and then notify her next of kin," said Don Aaron with Metro Police on the situation.

According to police, there were no signs of forced entry at the crime scene. While the female victim's identity has not been released, police are confirming she is not Mechelle McNair.
"There were persons who were around the complex today who have been taken to headquarters for questioning," Don Aaron explained. However, he made it clear that there were no suspects in custody at the time.
According to Don Aaron, no suspects have been taken into custody. Several people were being taken to police headquarters for questioning, so police could get information about the circumstances surrounding the shooting deaths.
Tennessee Governor Phil Bredesen released the following statement:
Andrea and I were very saddened by the news of Steve McNair's death. He has always felt like part of the Nashville family, and he will be sorely missed.
Several fans expressed shock and saddness in response to the news along with former teamates and other members of the Titans organization.
Many people commented on how Steve was such an important part of the community. Steve McNair opened a restaurant, Gridiron 9 on Jefferson Street in North Nashville. An employee at McNair's restaurant said Steve McNair gave him hope. He said when no one else gave him a chance, Steve hired him immediately.
Titans' owner ‘Bud' Adams Jr. released the following statement on the Titan's web site:
"We are saddened and shocked to hear the news of Steve McNair's passing today. He was one of the finest players to play for our organization and one of the most beloved players by our fans. He played with unquestioned heart and leadership and led us to places that we had never reached, including our only Super Bowl. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family as they deal with his untimely passing."
Hope Hines, NewsChannel 5's Chief Sports Reporter said Brad Hopkins, former All Pro Left Tackle, was very upset by the death of Steve McNair. He said he was dissapointed, and doesn't understand how people can take lives so violently.
Hopkins said this is an example of how no one is immune to violence.
"Steve was my friend, and that's the difference. I remember his first five minutes in the facility. Every walk he took, I was probably right next to him. We fought and bled together," said Hopkins. "Here's a man who was husband and a father. He meant a lot to a lot of people. Not just people on the football field," Hopkins continued.
Jeff Diamond, former President of the Titans commented on Steve McNair's death:
"First of all it's such a tragic, tragic thing. You just hate to see these things happen, and to happen to someone you like and respect and knew so well and had so many great times and moments with; it's a horrible, horrible story."
Steve McNair was 36 years old. He leaves behind a wife Mechelle and four sons: Junior, Steven, Tyler and Trenton.

they were still called the oilers after moving to tennessee.
he was a good player exciting to watch and lost a close super bowl .i wish he would have been able to finish his career with titans.i have not heard much from him, the last few years. | |

Posted: 7/4/2009 7:41:55 PM | he was the Heisman Trophy Candidate playing for Alcorn State against my home team Youngstown State. he set several records at our stadium even though the YSU Penquins beat them. among them, he attempted 8o some passes and completed 52. he passed for 514 yards in that game. what a game for offense. it was a great memory.

All I know is he was married with 4 kids and seemed to not even be hiding his adultery. He recently bought the woman who apparently shot him an Escalade, plus he was with her last week when she got a DUI in said vehicle. I wonder if she killed him after he tried to break it off. She very well could have been one of those 'other women' who thought he actually was going to leave the wife and kids for her (she was only 20).
If he had focused on actually being a decent husband and a father, he would be alive today. | |

Steve McNair the Quarterback was tough as nails,Steve McNair the man,Fell victim to the temptations of being a celebrity and being able to have any woman they choose,it all comes down to making conscious choices,He made his,and it got him killed.

Here’s what MediaTakeOut.com knows so far. About 5 months ago, the very married Steve met a 20 year old waitress at Dave & Buster’s Grand Sports Café named Sahel Kazimi. The two hit it off and the two began dating romantically.
During their relationship, which lasted only a few months, MediaTakeOut.com learned that Steve bought her a Black Escalade and rented her a luxury condo – where the two would meet regularly.
But, according to Sahel’s ex-boyfriend, Keith Norfleet, Sahel felt that Steve was dragging her along – and began behaving erratically. The boyfriend told a Tenessee newspaper, “[Steve] was making her believe they were going to be together and everything would be perfect.” According to him, she was last spotted banging on Norfleet’s door in the middle of the night – looking to talk. He wasn’t home to … and the next day – Steve McNair was found dead.
And here’s the last piece of evidence. Police found both Sahel and Steve’s bodies at a Nashville condominimum that Steve had been renting for Sahel to live in.
MediaTakeOut.com learned that Steve’s body had a multiple gunshot wounds – including one to the head. And Sahel – well she had a single gunshot wound to the head. And a recently fired pistol was found laying beside her hand.

Mcnair shared that condominimum with a guy friend named Neely.
She had her own apartment. Mcnair enjoyed drinking and the condo was real close to all the downtown restaurants and nightclubs.
Sources say according to Keith Norfleet, Sahel's ex-boyfriend of 4 years, he said the last time he talked to her it was about her breaking up with Mcnair and thought he would get back with her.
All she was to him was just a play thing. | |

It's a sad case and he was a great athlete, but man....What a way to go?!?! He got busted cheating and really can't explain himself for it. His wife probably going nuts over this matter.  | |
