Huge THANKS to everyone who made the effort to turn up to last night’s event, and credit to you all for contributing to the fabulous party atmosphere. It is, after all, you the attendees who collectively make these events the fun and friendly occasions they often turn out to be.

Admittedly, from an organiser’s perspective, it’s especially nice when the bulk of attendees can be seen to interact largely of their own accord. So, I was pleased to note that our first Syn event was blessed with a mainly sociable crowd, the likes of which I’ve become so accustomed to experiencing in Derby.

A huge WELL DONE also goes to newcomers who controlled their initial apprehension to attend their first POF event. In all likelihood, those of you who made the effort to chat and mingle will now know that ‘fortune often does indeed favour the brave’ – in this case with newfound friends, acquaintances or even partners you would not have made in your absence or self-imposed failure to be approachable or enjoy yourselves whilst you were there. That is, after all, the key to successful socialising at singles-orientated gatherings such as these.

All things considered, a lovely venue run and attended by lovely people virtually sums this one up entirely I think. So, aside from expressing my gratitude to Syn’s management team, Becky and Richard – plus the DJ and other the club staff for their hospitality and excellent service – I’ll leave you all to express your own comments whilst I approach the task of post-processing and cropping the photos, which should be uploaded by Tuesday.

In the meantime, the links below each of the following headings will take you to the appropriate signup threads of our next scheduled nightclub-based events, starting with a return to our other Derby venue.

*DERBY SEPTEMBER PARTY* Zanzibar. London Rd. DE1 2PA. *FRIDAY* September 4th:

*NOTTINGHAM SEPTEMBER PARTY* Halo Nightclub. Goldsmith St. NG1 5JS. *FRIDAY* September 25th:
http://forums.plentyoffish.com/datingPosts12533305.aspx

Please feel free to signup to either or both parties when you’re ready folks.

Thanks again and cheers for now.

Well, my first night out, back in the land of the able(ish)-bodied went rather well.
My apologies BB, I've just looked at the sign up thread and you did indeed mention the car-park right next door. We'll know better next time!

The venue was great, our little area was almost a club within a club and once the DJ had got over the MJ thing, the music was pretty good too, I even braved the dancefloor without my stick (only the once but it's a start).

Thanks to Ghostwatch, my partner-in-crime for the evening and hello again to all the other POFers I spoke to.
Thanks, of course to BB.

I take it back BB, I claim to have not read clearly enough about the car park, but then in my defence, I did only window shop the guest list. Well done on the venue, very central, with handy parking and a plethora of toilets. Everyone seemed to be having a great time and seemed to be a lot of cupids arrows flying about. Now for your next challenge BB, find me TJ the bouncer, he is on here somewhere, but my magnet isn't working.

Fantastic night and thanks to - Hula Moo - for being a fantastic crime partner and keeping me out of trouble.

Hello to the lovely lady behind the bar with the nice smile.
Hello to the lovely lady our side of the bar that gave me a lovely smile
thanks to that bill bloke who gave me a free drink, very nice of you matey.
Thanks to the club , management, dj and staff for a lovely night, I really like your club, Thats a lovely room you've got hidden away there.
Two areas, one quieter for chatting, one for dancing...and didn't we all dance. !
Nice and clean club and toilets. soap please though..
drinks, hmmm £3.10 for a lager, that's not bad for a city centre night club.
dunno bout the smoking area, didn't go down stairs to see although could have done with cooling off.
Yes it was hot in there ( heard a few comments) but they had air con, and it was a hot day and with so many pofers dancing away its gonna get hot.
Music was great, a really nice mix, thoroughly enjoyed it. Well done to the dj, I just wished you'd not keep cutting the tunes short, reminds me of a kid playing with the tv remote

oh and thanks to the lovely lady I was with for going with me, keeping me company, and dancing the night away with me,

What a fantastic night. Thank you .

...and once the DJ had got over the MJ thing, the music was pretty good too...

Tell me about it! It's a shame he cut the track halfway through 'Bad' though... That said, he was quite the showman and a sound bloke (although he kept calling me "Obi Wan" :-)).

T'was indeed a good'un! I didn't do as much mingling as I thought I would, but it was a pleasure to make the acquaintance of those few folks and folkettes that I did manage to break-into conversation with: Lisa, Paul, another Paul who I chatted with at the bar, Linda, the two guys from the forum who were sat with Linda, the fella in the red shirt who I spoke to toward the end of the night, the other bloke who left with us at the end (I think it's Stewart...), and of course our host, Barbelbil - cheers for pulling it all together and making it happen!

The club was top 'n' all! Actually, I believe it's the first venue I've ever been to that has a fully-functioning aircon system! Thank gawd for that, eh? Having said that, my free drink card saved me from both dehydration and bankruptcy.

Once again, I convey my gratitude for a fantastic night.

Hi all

Much sooner than anticipated, note that all images from our first Syn party are now uploaded for your attention, complete with one or two light-hearted embedded captions that are in no way meant to offend anyone.

For the record, here’s a repeat of my instructions for copying individual pics from the gallery, each of which to simply view, you must click to open from the initial thumbnail stage.

HOW TO COPY EVENT GALLERY IMAGES TO YOUR PROFILE

1. Create a file into which you can copy photos to your PC hard drive (either in the ‘my documents’ or ‘my pictures’ section).

2. Click once on the thumbnail of the image you wish to copy from the gallery. Depending on your chosen web browser (I use Mozilla Firefox), the image may need clicking a second time to open to its full resolution. Note that if you copy images that are not fully open, they will end up fuzzy on your profile.

3. With the image fully open, right click your mouse to view the drop down menu and then select ‘Image Save As’ before sending the image to your folder. Don’t forget to click the red X to close any image you open, enabling you to return to view others in the gallery.

4. Your selected images are now ready to upload on your profile whenever you’re ready. (You may also benefit from viewing the condensed version of this procedure as outlined in image No.1 above, which, like all other photos in the gallery, needs clicking to open beyond the thumbnail stage. Unfortunately, some folks copy the actual thumbnails and wonder why they look disappointingly blurred on their profiles Good luck.)

NOTE. Some members made me aware that their bodies/faces appear squashed and more rounded in downloaded images than they do in the flesh. If this is true in your case, note that it’s likely to do with what the technical geeks term as ‘aspect ratio’ (A.R) differences between modern TFT type slim monitors and those older/bulkier, squarer and, in many cases, more accurate and detailed CRT’s. (A.R is the width of an image divided by its height.)

So much for techno advancement and why I’ve so far avoided switching from my trusted and somewhat old CRT to a TFT/LCD. Hence, neither do I own a laptop, which, despite recent improvements re the more expensive makes, generally remain the biggest culprits of all for image inaccuracies, which most users accept as a payoff for convenience over desktop varieties.

The fact is, whether you view a desktop or a laptop, many – and especially ‘widescreen’ rectangular flat TFT’s – distort pictures, especially with the A.R set to the maximum16.9 instead of the more accurate and normal 4.3 (which incidentally is also the default A.R at which most digital cameras capture photographs).

Hence, instead of living on Special K for the next six months, have a play with the screen settings of any ridiculously wide monitor, whilst noting that selecting squarer 4.3 options will reduce some of the viewing area of a rectangular screen. The trade off for any unwanted stretched viewing area, of course, is that you should look exactly in scaled proportion to how you do in the flesh. Then, only you will know whether that’s a good or a bad thing and if it really is time to take in fewer calories and exercise for a while. Ah, alas, if only I could summon the willpower and tollerate such physical trauma myself.

Anyway, in closing this particular message, I express my thanks again go to those of you who turned your signup into an attendance. Merely signing up to events is the easy bit. It’s making the effort to show up to them that truly counts when it comes to giving your full support, in the process gaining the most from the opportunities these events offer members in terms of the rewarding social outlets they so often prove to be.

Thanks also to those of you who pass on your after party comments. I’ll return at my earliest opportunity to respond to the messages above, the bulk of which I’ve yet to read.

Cheers for now.

Regards

BB

My apologies BB, I've just looked at the sign up thread and you did indeed mention the car-park right next door. We'll know better next time!…The venue was great, our little area was almost a club within a club…Thanks, of course to BB….
…EDIT: Who won the best dressed bubbly then BB?

Thanks Hula, but no apologies needed really, as I was pretty sure I’d covered all relevant details in the thread fairly comprehensively. For your and anyone else’s future reference though, there’s loads of free parking in many streets of Derby from 8.00 pm Saturday ‘til 7 or 8.00 am Sunday. I’ll have to leave it to individuals to find their own street spaces though, as I wouldn’t want my favourite spot nicking. Joking aside, it’s well worth local members tripping down to the city, or of course phoning the council well in advance of the next party to sort out where they can leave their vehicles whilst they’re dancing and having fun at the next event.

As I also mentioned in the last signup thread, Abbey Street car park is free during those times too, as is any other city council-controlled area you might find. Even accounting for your current physical predicament, Abbey Street is less the 500 yards and a steady flat walk away, although do bear in mind that half the area’s being dug up to make way for some newfangled road. There should still be 90 + spaces available when the work’s complete though.

Must agree that our area in the venue is indeed like a club within a club. That, along with the obvious suitability of the adjoining second bar for a separate and quieter room in which to chat, is what initially attracted me to it. I must admit that witnessing how well the two rooms functioned on the night of the event itself was pleasing to say the least.

Regarding your question of the champers winners, check out image No.59. As I’d put my camera away by the time the prizes were awarded, I’ve lifted the male winner from one image and placed him alongside the two ladies who shared the bubbly. I must stress however, that the DJ had a real difficult few moments picking the winners from so many well-dressed and lovely looking ladies. The male category, however, was a piece of cake as stated in the image caption.

Thanks for the thanks though. Like everyone else, you’re always welcome. Glad you enjoyed your return to the POF event scene and do keep flashing that smile of yours.

Tut tut, dear Ghosty. As you’ve no doubt come to learn, mere window-shopping can be bad for you, and I truly forget how many times I encourage members to ‘please read ALL relevant details in message No.1 of the promotional thread before signing up to or attending any event’. Still, at least, now you know why I do it so often.

As for the venue, the one drawback to it being so conveniently central is that the average drink price goes higher for the privilege of a prime business position. Account for the fact that many nearby pubs and bars (including Revolution) charge £3.20 per pint, and I believe it puts the whole subject of city centre booze tariffs into perspective.

Folks might moan because we’ve had and will continue to receive more purse/wallet-friendly times at Zanzibar. And although I’ll do my utmost to barter for discounts for our next Syn event (using Zanzi’s ongoing hospitality as leverage), I wouldn’t be surprised by any refusal by a premier nightclub in a premier spot to drop its regular tariff below that of nearby bars like Revolution.

The fact is, Derby regulars have been spoilt by so many value-for-money events at Zanzibar, which, with the appearance of this second club venue, may be appreciated all the more in future. Ultimately however, in both Syn and Zanzibar, we have two terrific venues in their own right, and at least we now know the potential cost of drinking for a night at either club.

In many respects, although some may not fully appreciate it, we’re lucky to now have occasional Friday and Saturday nights alternately covered. And from my perspective, it would be great to see equal and continuing support given to both. I guess only time will tell on that one though.

When it comes to Syn though Ghosty, indeed there are a plethora of toilets. Being the proud owner of a rather weak bladder myself, it’s always comforting to know one is never too far away from a suitably placed public convenience.

Oh, and I too noticed the little cherub cupid was at work on Saturday night. Always nice to see folks getting on in terms of potential romantic involvement. That is, after all, why many of us are members of sites like POF. It also clearly shows that these events do work to varying degrees, both in terms of finding new love and forming new social circles with any number of friends and acquaintances. Save to mention that we’re so often mixing with largely terrific and approachable crowds.

…Music was great, a really nice mix, thoroughly enjoyed it….What a fantastic night. Thank you

Hey, no worries Joe. Glad to note you ‘thoroughly enjoyed it’.

Well wot can i say except well done and thankyou for giving up your free time to organise another successful event i can say nothing but praise for the venue and organisation and thanks to the mob for putting up with me lol hope to see you all soon and may we all be freinds forever thanks bb once again

Hi Trucker. No problem for the free time and organising. I am glad it turned out so successful and apparently well received though. Thanks for the appreciation chap. Pleased you enjoyed it and liked the venue.

Hello what a good night! Shame I had to leave early my friend was feeling unwell. It was hot thank goodness for the aircon eh? My dancing shoes have now gone away ready for their next outing.

Hi LilyKatie. Glad you found it a ‘good night’, but sorry to learn of your friend taking ill. Hope she’s well enough to accompany you to the next one. Indeed, thank goodness for the air con. Didn’t stop me doing my fair share of sweating though. As for your dancing shoes, don’t let ‘em get too dusty before the next one.

…The club was top 'n' all! Actually, I believe it's the first venue I've ever been to that has a fully-functioning aircon system! Thank gawd for that, eh?…

Yay, another air con fan I see. Had it not been switched on in the dancing section OBI, I dread to think how hot it might have got during the party. Glad you enjoyed it along with the other newbies. Hope the champagne went down well and congratulations on your impeccable sense of dress. Much obliged for the appreciation too, thank you.

Well my first pof meet and very enjoyable it was. Loved the music and chatted to some reli nice ppl.

Pleased your first POF event was an enjoyable experience for you Bella68. Maybe you’ll get the chance to come back to Derby and chat to a few more ‘nice people’ in the not too distant future.

Thankyou to everyone for making me feel so welcome at my 1st meet and it was nice talking to alot of people..Hopefully i will be able to go to a few more saturday night meets in the future

Always nice to note that newcomers like you have been made to feel welcome Lisa4444. Glad you made the effort to talk to lots of people too, which is key to all attendees’ enjoyment. Well done and glad you had a good time. Nice to see you’re already thinking about returning to party with us again on a Saturday.

Well done guys , looks like a fab nite was had by all

Yeah MacForty, a good time did appear to be had by all, well the majority at least. Thanks to dropping in with a note fella.

Thanks bb for organising a good knees up as always.I think people enjoy the saturdays.

Hey, no worries Cahood. Just glad you enjoy the knees ups. I agree that people seem to enjoy the Saturdays as much as those who prefer Fridays. To be fair though, I think the next event at Syn will give a clearer indication of how successful Saturdays at the new club may prove to be.

For starters, I strongly suspect that quite a few folks will have attended the initial one just for a nosey; either to see what a POF do is like, or, just as likely, to see how the club has developed since it was known as the Pink Coconut, which is long before your time. So, I think we can safely say that our second Syn party will give a more accurate indication of what to expect afterwards. Indeed, there could be interesting time ahead for Derby.

Thanks again for your time and contributions everyone.

Regards

You’re welcome Astra Flame. Really pleased to note another newcomer enjoyed the event. Thanks for posting your views.

”…do you organise any in leicester at all?” (quote, un quote Astra Flame) “yeah astra i second that a leicester meet would be good if it was organised”(quote, un quote Lisa4444)

With the greatest respect and absolutely no offence intended dear ladies, this thread is not the ideal place to discuss any potential for events to be held in Leicester. By all means, however, do feel free to open a topical ‘interest thread’ in the open UK forum and, out of respect for the fact that the subject of Leicester arises occasionally, I’ll gladly contribute some input as soon as I can spare the time. For what my opinions are worth though, please be aware that for reasons based on experience, they may not be quite as positive as you’d hoped for.

Just keep the thread title to something as simple as ‘Anyone Interested in a Leicester Party?’ and I’m sure a few comments from a limited number of potential attendees who read these pages will be forthcoming. Beyond that, please minimise the need for moderation of spamming by keeping this particular thread on the subject to which it’s entitled, or any other events I happen to mention/link that are already posted on the message boards. As I say, no offence intended ladies. Thanks again for your input in relation to Syn.

Hi She1960. No worries, you’re welcome to the ‘Great Evening’ during your first ever visit to Derby. Also pleased you enjoyed yourselves. Nice meeting you and your friend too, and thank you very much for the compliment. Had me blushing there for a moment – especially as I don’t recall ever being labelled ‘very courteous’ before. Hey, and I’m really glad you felt welcome too. Thanks again for the compliment and, of course, for popping along with the rest of the lovely attendees with which Syn was blessed during Saturday’s party.

Hope to see everyone partying again soon.
