| Just needed a nag about my new laptop Posted: 7/4/2009 9:22:45 PM | I know self pity threads arent popular but i have to give a wee nag about this. I got my new laptop two days ago, drink a glass of milk at the laptop and accidently spills the whole amount of milk all over the laptop. Just had it for two days, just nice £700 out on nothing! Grrrrr! | |

| Just needed a nag about my new laptop Posted: 7/4/2009 9:39:33 PM | Its okay ceoil. I spilt coffee on my laptop last year, and now I have to use a usb keyboard as the laptop's keyboard doesn't work anymore. The good part is that ever since then, my coffee cup never passes near the laptop even if I'm not paying attention. I've developed a cautionary habit. | |

| Just needed a nag about my new laptop Posted: 7/4/2009 9:42:33 PM | Oh yes I am so angry at myself, geezes, I have never ever done it before. Oh well might as well try to stop and dwell about it, what's the purpose, can't make it undone even if I wish I had that gift | |

| Just needed a nag about my new laptop Posted: 7/4/2009 9:46:12 PM | Question: Why are you " nagging about" your new lap top?
What did that poor innocent laptop ever do to you? It seems to me that, out of all the players involved - you, your glass of milk and your laptop - the laptop is the real victim here. It makes more sense to me if you expressed ire towards that villainous glass of milk... after all, that's your real partner in crime in this case of outrageous laptop abuse.
Do yourself a favour. Check your warranty to see exactly what it does cover. It also wouldn't hurt to make a quick call to a local computer service to find out if it can possibly be cleaned or repaired. The time you spend "nagging about" your new laptop is time better served by getting some facts and then following up with a reasonable course of action.
And if all else fails, you can always give the folks at The Guinness Book of Records a shout. I'm pretty sure that a glass of milk that cost you £700 certainly qualifies you for something.

| Just needed a nag about my new laptop Posted: 7/4/2009 10:01:00 PM | | When I saw the title, I was automatically going to reply "Get a Mac," 'cause that solves everything. Um, except for spills. Oops. | |

| Just needed a nag about my new laptop Posted: 7/4/2009 10:06:37 PM | The keyboard keys are very easy to remove. The keys just snap on and off. Under the key there will be some parts you can remove to make it easy to clean. It is very easy. Once removed you can then clean the contacts and then the keyboard will most likely work like new. Here is a page that will help you. http://www.laptoprepair101.com/laptop/2007/03/20/key-fell-off-keyboard/
I bought a used laptop and it was missing two keys. I bought them on e-bay. Was more than easy to put them on. You can even buy an entire replacement keyboard on ebay for not very much at all.

A friend did the same thing with soda. She immediately turned it upside down and let is drain and dry. It worked fine the next day.

If you made your purchase with a credit card, check your card holder agreement as some cards (mostly platinum / gold cards ) offer buyer protection that cover purchases against accidental damage.

| Just needed a nag about my self Posted: 7/5/2009 7:58:20 AM | Could call up the company and freak out screaming "WTH??? WHO spilled coffee all over my keyboard BEFORE sending it to me?" Might not work though. Try to clean it. It you can't maybe a repair place can. good luck | |

| Just needed a nag about my new laptop Posted: 7/5/2009 10:01:44 AM | | Some warranties do cover that. Made sure my son's was covered if he spilt anything on it. But I believe I paid extra for that. | |

| Just needed a nag about my new laptop Posted: 7/5/2009 10:08:22 AM | | There are alternatives - get an external keyboard and plug it in. You should have a 1-year warranty from the manufacturer. Just tell them "it stopped working" ... when they question you just say "look, it doesn't work". It is most likely the keyboard that needs to be replaced. I've had users tell me their keyboard stopped working (using the above scenario) and when I took the laptop a wave of liquid poured out. It can be fixed. | |

I bought an expensive watch some years ago using my Visa card, a week later I managed to break the face and lost one of the hands. Visa paid for the repairs.

I believe Toshy sattelites have a spill resistant K/B... safe for half a glass of wine spill,perhaps.. I read in one of their product blurbs....
still... you would never test it intentionally, would you, eh?....
I've flooded a few normal kb's and cleaned them out ok.... however.. I would have a bit more respect for a 700 quid lappy.... with liquids nearby..
