Do you remember certain things about growing up in the 70's, the fashion that was about, or what your mum used to make you wear?;-)
The sweets you could get then but aren't about anymore or even those that have made a comeback?
Anything that makes you smile..or grimace even?
Music that you liked to hear?

I remember wearing elasticated checked trousers that my mum pulled up so high on my waist that Simon Cowell would be impressed!
and going to Saturday morning cinema and buying that moon dust that would pop on your toungue on the way..(you can still get that now as it goes!)and the first time I heard Mr Blue sky..ELO!

Oh, Lord! Nooo.......

I've had youngsters state that the 70's must have been great, the fashion and all. Err, no. It was a great time to be a child but pants as far as anything materialistic and most cheesy pop music is concerned. The era of "sh*t colour drab" as my ex-mother in law once said. Still have my 77' silver jubilee union jack motif tee shirt. :-)

Hmm summers were hot, World Cup 78 in Argentina, Umbro shirts, Mudd's Tiger Feet, Radio 1 roadshows, cans of Strike cola where the ring pull came off, Tom Baker as Dr Who ... I even had a Noel Edmonds Multi Coloured Swap Shop T Shirt!

^oh yes the multi couloured swap shop..did anyone on here put any thing on there to swap?
I also remember the stylophone..Rolph Harris advertising all the wonderful(??) music you could make on it(but sounded more like a cat being strangled!) I have to admit to having one myself and playing a rendition of 'mull of Kintyre' on it! Well I thought it sounded like it anyway!
Roller skates that you buckled to your shoes, the baron knights,The goodies, soda stream and the milk adverts with 'wath out, watch out there's a Humphrey about' as a slogan! The smurfs that became the collectors items and your parents would get the figures for you each time they filled the car with petrol...

Polyester suits and Disco music is what i remember. My neighbors always had ABBA on loud. I do remember all the cool telly shows for kids at that time.

One thing i am proud of is being in the opening night of Star Wars when it came out and how many people can say that? hehehe

First love, first motorbike and leather jacket, first tailor made suit, handing my wage packet over to my mum and hoping I had enough given back to me to go and see Showaddwaddy at the guild hall, being scared crapless by an episode of Mystery and Imagination, walking the streets with torches during the power cuts was a great adventure, decimalisation, northern soul, and ice skating at Blackpool pleasure beach with the youth club every monday!

ooh the 70s. Donny osmond, spangles, space dust, wonder woman, my mums cheesecloth flares, my dads nylon vest and pants combos, my tomahawk bike (too small for a chopper) roller skates that strapped to your shoes, brut aftershave, bunty, my sindy getting it on with my brothers eagle eye action man , playing jacks, hopscotch and my best friend joanne. The 70s was also when i learnt the facts of life which was deeply traumatic and i still cant quite believe people do it.

Loved Why Don't You? Crackerjack and Swap Shop

Taping the Top 40 on Sunday evenings

Chopper bikes and seeing how many kids you could get on it and then hurling ourselves down a big hill ... magic

oh yeah I remember cheesecloth too!

"robinson crusoe every school summer "

Yeah...We got our summer holidays a week before you English, and ended a week before, so EVERY summer I missed the end of that!...Grrrrr...

The T.V holidays was geared towards English holidays and not Scottish...

Gave me an insight into the state of our Union...

The 50s, 60s and 70s were wonderful.I remember all of them even though I wasnt born til the 80s.

The Goodies, the flares, men had lovey hair and cared about their appearance, they looked so sexy in three piece suits.

George and Mildred, sweets and iced lollies full of strange colours and e numbers and primary school kids were allowed to play outside

Oh yes and proper kettles that boiled on the hob and whistled when they were ready and records and proper food (although microwave meals and "smash" were available)

Proper tv prgrammes such as Morecombe and Wise and The Two Ronnies with gorgeous creatures such as Georgie Fame and Alan Price singing

Wonderful. I would like to have been there. I think it's criminal that the BBC wont show The Goodies and that Price and Fame don't seem to have done any records together.

Wedding scrambles

Glad to say that tradition is still alive and kicking in the East End Scints, one of the local girls got married last summer and there was about 50 kids tearing up and down the street picking up the coins, absolutely brilliant

I loved the growing up in the 70's it seemed people were more open to being friendly and neighbours were your friends..always in and out of each others houses whether it be kids or adults. The street party of '77 was bloody excellent..with space hopper races and adults joining in all the fun,the flags hanging from each house and street corner and all sitting down at the long joined line of tables and having a good feast! The pub door was open for the beers and us kids had bottles of pop and bags of 'salt and shake' and also recieving a silver jubilee cup and coin!
Then also being able to play out with your mates(and a game of knock down ginger..or two!) The miss world competitons on t.v and me and my sis and our mates pulling all the clothes out of mum's wardrobe to dress up as contestants after it!Happy memories!

Aaah! The Summer of '76 was my favourite year. It was one of the longest and hottest summers and I bunked off school to go over the road to the open air lido most days with my first love. Music wise there was something for everyone and I got more into rock music in the latter years of the 70s and from 1977 onwards was a bit of a haze. I used to love going to Carnaby Street to buy beautiful silky bat wing sleeve tops, cheese cloth blouses and all sorts of other paraphenalia.
