| BIKE THE SEASIDE TRAIL (SCIENCE WORLD TO ENGLISH BAY) + THE SEAWALL (STANLEY PARK) & LUNCH AT THE BOATHOUSE, Vancouver, Saturday, July 18, 10:00 a.m. Posted: 7/5/2009 9:35:32 PM | CHANGES FROM ORIGINAL POSTING - Change of starting location has been made to make parking somewhat easier as well as to extend the length of the ride. The Seaside trail is simply beautiful. - This location allows the use of Sky Train as well. - The Boathouse will be a much better venue for a group of our size.
EVENT DETAILS:
July 18th, 10:00 a.m. – Meet in the parking lot at Science World.
BIKE ROUTE – From Science World along the south edge of False Creek, passing by Granville Island; then up First Ave to Burrard and over the Burrard Street Bridge. Then left onto Pacific Ave, merging onto Beach Ave to Stanley Park.
** FOR THOSE WANTING TO BIKE ONLY THE SEAWALL or TO DO THE SCAVENGER HUNT ONLY (see more info below) – We could pick you up at English Bay beach, opposite The Boathouse Restaurant. If this is your plan, be sure to make it clear so we know to look for you!! Estimated time for the group to pass this point is 11:00.
We will then cross the lower edge of the park (west to east) to begin the counter-clockwise trail around the park, ending back at English Bay Beach. Bikes can be locked up there while we have lunch. *** Be sure to bring a bike lock ***
The return to Science World (after lunch and on your own timeframe) is quite easy. This time take the Seaside Trail on the north side of False Creek just to vary the view.
SCAVENGER HUNT - There was some interest expressed in this and Saucy Salsa has organized a good hunt. This will be available at the start for anyone wanting to make that part of their ride.
LUNCH AND SOCIALIZING - 12:30 – The Boathouse at English Bay (at Davie and Beach)
- The Boathouse is giving us the pub exclusively from 12:30 until 3:00 with their full menu. This is a great place for connecting and meeting others. Note: if you are coming to the pub only it will not be open until 12:30.
UPDATED INFORMATION: There was very limited interest in blading the Seawall so I’ve removed that from the posting. I’ve also received emails requesting a walk, but again very limited interest. So, this will be a bike ride only. Of course, everyone is free to participate in whatever way chosen, but I can’t guarantee you will have company other than with the bicycle group.

| BIKE OR BLADE THE SEAWALL & LUNCH AT SYLVIA HOTEL, Vancouver, Saturday, July 18th, 10:00 a.m. Posted: 7/7/2009 12:02:56 AM | I injured my back a while ago, at the end of May, (in a stupid shopping cart accident). I have been going stir-crazy, wanting to ride around the seawall all of this time. I'm pretty sure I can make it out for this ride, (my back will have healed by then). Now it's just a final decision of "do I take my big kid bike? or do I take my cruiser that I've got in my profile pics??" My arse hurts after riding on that banana seat for too long, but I might be feeling stupid, and ride it anyways!! I'm known more for my looks than for my smarts, and that is pretty sad!! | |

| BIKE OR BLADE THE SEAWALL & LUNCH AT SYLVIA HOTEL, Vancouver, Saturday, July 18th, 10:00 a.m. Posted: 7/7/2009 9:46:41 AM | I had a great ride in ft. Langley last weekend, so I am looking forward to this one.
Put me down for both the ride and lunch, please.
the idea of a scavenger hunt, using many of the trails of the park, sounds like lots of fun. I would be willing to help someone do this -- I don't have time to do it by myslef. I have a bunch of ideas of things we could incorporate. | |

| BIKE OR BLADE THE SEAWALL & LUNCH AT SYLVIA HOTEL, Vancouver, Saturday, July 18th, 10:00 a.m. Posted: 7/11/2009 11:16:22 AM | | Well THAT was disappointing...I was there a few minutes early, went to 2 parking lots, didn't see anyone, then left...think I didn't go 2 the right parking lot til after everyone left maybe? Anyway it was great bike ride down there & back, saw a blue heron & a raccoon, so it was still worthwhile going; then went 2 Plan B...better luck next time! :-) | |
