| Footy - Who will win the premiership (Go the Saints) Posted: 7/6/2009 6:07:30 AM | After the fantastic result yesterday (I was at the game), the mighty Saints are top of the ladder undefeated after 14 games.
Can they go all the way and win their first flag since 1966?
Do they need to lose a game or two considering no team has gone undefeated in a season - look at Geelong last year - they lost just one game until the grand final.
But if the Saints lose a game, they may make it a habit (I remember 2004 - they won the first 10 straight, then I think lost 8 of the last 15 they played and didn’t make it to the grand final)
Will Geelong fight back - Geelong will need to show they are a true champion team after last year's loss in the grand final (remember Essendon was a great team over 1999 to 2001 and only won one flag)
Or will some other team bolt out of the blue?
Will I truly see a Saints premiership before I die?

| Footy - Who will win the premiership (Go the Saints) Posted: 7/6/2009 8:56:48 AM | Beware the fast finishing FREO!! lol
Great game though, not sure who Id be barracking for if its the Cats and Saints in the Grand Final. On one hand Id like to see St Kilda get another flag, but geez,Geelong are a great team to watch playing footy.

| Footy - Who will win the premiership (Go the Saints) Posted: 7/6/2009 12:08:50 PM | | Geelong is still the favourite for mine. They were without their best forward against the Saints and still only lost by a goal after giving the Saints a good head start. The Bulldogs are the dark horse in the finals. No one else can win it. | |

| Footy - Who will win the premiership (Go the Saints) Posted: 7/6/2009 12:53:37 PM | i agree richbloke, geelong deserve to still be favorites but the saints have given themselves a huge dose of self belief! dont get too hung up on this 5 goal start that had geelong playing catch up footy all day, when the kitchen was at its hottest, it was the saints holding the blowtorch+ they proved they could absorb extreme pressure when geelong came back as all champion teams do! i loved the spirit the game was played in, no dirty stuff behind play+ that 1st quarter mark from st nick was as good as big gardiners grab to seal it!! lets all just enjoy the fact that 2 teams can excite+ inflame us to beleive that bigger+ better games are going to be seen in september!!! caaaaaaaaaaaaaarrrrrrrrrrnnnnnnnn the saints!!!!!! | |

| Footy - Who will win the premiership (Go the Saints) Posted: 7/6/2009 1:26:09 PM | Loving your passion Rob......but remember what happen to Geelong when we went all year undefeated...lost the big one in the end...and it still hurts !!!
The Sts were great..no doubt about that...but Im sure if the game went on another 5 minutes..the result would have been different, you were crumbling and we were on a roll !!!....we were down 3 of our best players as well...
Your guys have got to stop relying on Riewoldt all time..great as he is...as is Dal Santo...if you make the 8....Riewoldt will be a marked man....ala Brereton...89 GF.....and everyone who ever watches the greatest GF ever played still feels that crunch.....which was completely unintentional of course !!!
I agree...the Bulldogs..danger team to watch.....................................No Docker/Tossers you aint gonna be there...deal with it !!!

| Footy - Who will win the premiership (Go the Saints) Posted: 7/6/2009 3:26:54 PM | | I don't give a damn and I am a Victorian born and bred . My brothers used to rent out our front lawn to footy fans and I babysat football wives' kids but it all seemed to pass my emotional responses undisturbed . All that male glorification thing . I preferred to climb out of my little attic bedroom window onto the tiles and watch the boys across the road . And then later there was Chris Mainwaring . | |

| Footy - Who will win the premiership (Go the Saints) Posted: 7/6/2009 10:39:59 PM | | The saints will be in the grand final for sure, but I am not 100% sure they will win it. Geelong were top of the ladder last year and lost only one game (that against Collingwood). But still they lost the grand final to Hawthorn. | |

| Footy - Who will win the premiership (Go the Saints) Posted: 7/7/2009 7:06:40 AM | Good to see im not the only freo fan on this forum! Im born and raised in Adelaide and a pround freo fan! Oh and Mikey I will go to AAMI stadium and watch the game in person.
Now back on the topic... Im awaiting the cats vs saints rematch if it happens. Because of the result it was positive for both teams. Saints are capable of beating the best team. Cats might of lost but can find the mistakes what went wrong.
but in some AFL seasons some unexpected things have happened in finals... Adelaide Crows of 1997 and 1998 anyone?

| Footy - Who will win the premiership (Go the Saints) Posted: 7/7/2009 8:40:37 AM | i remember when st. kilda won the grand final against collingwood in 1966. i lived in moorabbin and my neighbours were mad keen saints supporters. the party they had went on for two weeks. my boyfriend was a neighbour and friend of the millane family who are one eyed magpie fans. they had a wake for two weeks. because channel 7 bosses in queensland are wankers we didn't get to see the game on sunday. apparently it was eventually broadcast after 12pm on sunday night. bring on the next meeting, can't wait. go cats! | |
|
| Footy - Who will win the premiership (Go the Saints) Posted: 7/8/2009 2:18:17 AM | | too right daffie, channel 7 needs to adress this before the finals or we will have the same scenario then, i bet they will get some pretty pissed off folk knocking on their door, me included! lucky a mate has foxtel+ he lives 5 minutes away! cant wait to have another crack at the pussies!! next time we wont wait for them to catch up to make it interesting!! carna sainters!!!!!! p.s, pookie, still deciding your best type of punishment when the saints win next time!! lol | |
|
| Footy - Who will win the premiership (Go the Saints) Posted: 7/10/2009 6:26:03 AM | So the Magpies defeated the Bulldogs by 1 point.
Does this mean COllingwood is a flag contender? Or that the Saints and the Cats are too far ahead of the others - like Geelong and Hawthorn last year.
I do find it amazing that Geelong had to omit six players from last week's game - I was at that game and didn't realise it was that bruising.
Maybe this is teh year of the Saints (please! please!)

| Footy - Who will win the premiership (Go the Saints) Posted: 7/10/2009 4:57:35 PM | so far this year, i think any of the top 8 sides can win if they play to their potential, i,m just hoping the saints have a good run injury wise , the cats could be in a bit of strife tonight with some of their prime movers still recovering from the touch up the saints handed them!!! jeez pookie, u have been quiet this week miss!!!! lol listen to the pies supporters yapping after last nights win! god, i love this game!!!!! | |
|
| Footy - Who will win the premiership (Go the Saints) Posted: 7/11/2009 3:02:59 AM | the 'pies were super lucky to last the distance last night. i bet eddie was chewing his nails at the end!
i took my grandson to the 'gabba last wednesday. the lions put on a meet the players day for the cubs. all the little kids were gorgeous decked out in their footy gear. precious!
the kids got to meet some of their idols and had a great time learning how to kick and handball etc., from the players. then it was autograph and photo time. all the guys were so nice and patient with the kids. i got vossie's and justin leppitch's autograph for my zac. he was as pleased as punch. at the end of the afternoon the kids were all given a four'n twenty, drink and goody bag to go home with. it was a fun afternoon.....for us both!
as for tonight..... i want the cats to win but won't cry if the lions get up.
long live the greatest game of all.

| Footy - Who will win the premiership (Go the Saints) Posted: 7/11/2009 4:44:06 PM | | daffie, isnt it great to see the kids get such a buzz from being round some true legends! also great that we dont seem to have the same trouble in afl that the bum sniffers have! the pussies injury list is bigger then a pom,s complaint book+ a touch up from the lions wasnt what bomber was hoping for, still, the saints play west coast over there this arvo+ i reckon this could go down to the wire! still waiting to hear from pookie! i hope she hasnt gone into meltdown after last night! roll on september as the upsets keep happening! carna sainters!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! | |
|
| Footy - Who will win the premiership (Go the Saints) Posted: 7/11/2009 7:12:59 PM | | All of a sudden after Geelong's loss last night and Adelaide keeping Fremantle to 1.713 for the entire game, I am gettung nervous about the Sainters against the Eagles this afternoon. | |

| Footy - Who will win the premiership (Go the Saints) Posted: 7/20/2009 12:11:41 AM | Nice work by the Saints yesterday although I do expect Kosi to be rub out for a week for his stupid punch.
The commentatots were speculating that teh Saints will not be able to transfer their style of play to teh bigger MCG. Interesting theory.
And is Hawthorn back? Again? They take on the Cats next week.
