| Why do guys pick fights?
Posted: 7/6/2009 1:25:04 PM | Okay so years ago, I stopped going to the bars becaause guys seemed to allways want to pick fights with me. I went out with some family to a bar and almost intantly I was sigled out for a fight. Now, I was sitting at a small table, with my sister and nephew. Wasn't chatting up any women just enjoying myself. Again this fellow gets in my face and asked if I was the guy picking a fight last weekend. I replied no, I don't go out much. I was approached by four other males looking for trouble. I just don't get it.
What do yout think triggers this behavior? Im not a big guy but in decent shape. Im not out going or****. I hate when this happens. It ruins my night and then I feel gaurded. Whats your take.

Posted: 7/6/2009 1:41:40 PM | I'll just mention my status as a former Navy pilot, current airline pilot and Harley Davidson enthusiast to lend credince to me saying that I have been in some of the worst bars in the world. I have never had a problem.
Heck,,, at the all of bars I've been to, I really can't even remember seeing a fight. Maybe three at most in my whole life. Even at my last Key West Poker run, 3000 bikers, jam-packed into 1 sqaure mile of bars,,, no fights.

That's the weirdest part of male behavior that totally makes them look like aliens. So I don't know why they do it, they just do. (Not all of them, of course.)
I had a coworker whos brother went to bars specifically to pick up fights. His idea of the evening was "go to a bar, get drunk, get into a fight" presumably to have something to talk about later. Something to make his girfriend to be disapproving of and unhappy about. I didn't interact much with this person to realy tell why was he doing it. Former marine and an avid motorcycle enthusuast (read: maniac about riding twise the speedlimit ), maybe he was missing challenge in his life, who knows. | |

I've only seen a few fights in bars and usually it's when one party had way too much to drink and started acting stupid. But if the bar is decent, they'll have bouncers who can spot that sort of trouble brewing and nip it in the bud. | |

Quite possible. It seems there are less fights in bigger cities than in smaller towns. I live in a small town also, and have seen or heard about more bar fights in a month than I have in a major city in a year. On the plus side though, there is less chance of someone getting shot (at least in my small town anyway).
Your case is rather extreme though. Maybe it's because you are short, and therefore, are perceived as an easy target. I dunno. I'm scrawny and people almost never pick fights with me and I'm quite out going and may even come off as c0cky at times. At the same time, I'm also 6'1" and, sort of like a cat, can puff up to make myself look bigger. I normally have a lot of friends or, at least, aquaintences, who will more than willingly back me up. Biggest factor for me though, being scrawny and getting my a$s handed to me once (grade 10 when I was even smaller), I've learned an art of self defence...talking my way out of it and walking away. 
When it does happen, you can't let it ruin your evening, otherwise the other guy already wins, without having to beat you up. Go about your business and don't let it bother you. Truthfully, I find it quite humourous...ok, actually I find it fvcking hilarious when people try to pick fights with me for no reason. It doesn't take away from my night, but instead, adds to it, by giving my friends and I something to laugh about for the rest of the night. | |

If you were TRYING to pick a fight last week..there simply would have been a fight. LAST WEEK. If you were someone they noticed and didn't like...they would've stolen or wacked you with something when you weren't looking.
Now i've been in two bar fights in my life. First one i'm sitting on a bench whistling dixie and someone hit me for no reason..and after I realized what was going on I had to fight him and his two friends until bouncers grabbed everyone. Second one...well I picked the fight, lol...alcohol is bad. Point blank..you're full of crap. Either someone fights you or they don't...drunks leaning on you and calling you a punk doesn't mean they're trying to fight you. That means you simply ran into a typical drunk ass that can simply be side stepped. Women deal with more of those men than you, well depending on the type of bar you frequent. LoL =) | |

( small man diesease ) They get a few drinks under thier belt & they wont to prove to the world how tough they are by fighting the biggest guy in the place .
