| Do you guys suppor Obama's view on interracial marriage?
Posted: 7/6/2009 3:20:05 PM | So Obama's against it because he says we should preserve our racial identities. Do you guys agree? If not, why so?
I also watched this youtube video (it was actually on CNN or some other news site) recently mentioning how interracial kids have many advantages genetically (in a plethora of things). I will post up the video as soon as I find it.
I personally think interracial marriages are cool in that it's something "new" and it's on another level at looking at things. I myself, come from a mixed background and though it is frustrating sometimes (especially when people ask you, you're a mix of what and what, as though you were semi-bitter mixed milk chocolate) but nevertheless, I don't think I've seen met many interracial people who've had hard times with dating (although it is hard to sustain in a long relationship for some reason) or with other areas of life. | |

Posted: 7/6/2009 3:27:56 PM | Well the problem is that now he's the President and he is actually thinking of implementing his so-called opinions. This was one of the question during the election and perhaps he is right in a way in maintaining one's identity and culture but times are changing and there are many people out there who are experimenting with new things.
I currently live in Europe (mainland Europe) and it's quite strange because back home (Washington D.C.), I've seen tons and tons of mixed marriages/relationships and after coming here....it's quite the opposite. A majority girls are primarily interested in just sleeping with "foreigners" or very very short-term relationships. I guess this is partly because of the language barrier and partly due to the fact that they think all Americans are quite rich and tend to live in the best possible manner. Of course there are exceptions (countries like Great Britain, France, Netherlands, Belgium etc.) but this matter still has a long way to go in other European countries.
But I do feel that America being a free country should support this matter because this is what makes them open-minded it many ways. Perhaps other countries will get an example from the US on certain issues. | |

Posted: 7/6/2009 3:40:32 PM | Ack, this is so misconstrued. Please go watch the video (more than once if you have to) and understand that it was taken out of context and he explains what he meant. He also said OTHER things (segregation) that in the 1960s were a clusterf@ck (paraphrasing :laugh:) and should have taken priority over interracial marriage. He is not talking about PRESENT DAY. If he is against interracial marriage, he is not only a product of one, but IN one. So if you really believe he is against it in present day, try watching the video without smoking heroine.
Also, of course mixed people are better looking. Duh. | |

Given his father is black and of the Muslim religion. And his mother is white and of the Christian faith, I doubt seriously he would shoot interracial marriage down. Given that he was touted as the first ''African American'' president but more closely identified with his white family.....come on now there's no way he'd be against this. | |

America is full of interracial marriages at this present day and time. Lots of interracial relationships as well. No one here is going to turn back time to the days of segregation and make that illegal, least of all a guy who is of mixed race.

I didn't actually listen to the whole thing and now that I did...it was out of the context. The question was relating to the legalization of same-sex marriage and he was just giving an example of how he would have focussed on anti-miscegenation laws rather than civil rights laws back in the days of the war.
I sincerely apologize for my misunderstanding.
Nevertheless, I don't know where I heard it, but in one of his interviews he did mention how he stuck to his "black" roots and married Michelle...but again I think I might have misunderstood the conversation.

Actually dogs and cats aren't the same race, though they are both living things, as we are. Therefore, you're better off saying "no yellow cats with brown cats" or "no german shepards with black labs" as it makes more sense. Apples and oranges to talk dogs and cats, regardless of who said it.
