Say you contact someone or they contact you on here.

You're trying to get to know them, and all they write is half sentence replies. And the same question back.

Do you consider yourself to be barking up the wrong tree even though they keep replying?

Do you think they are not very talkative, but still interested?

Do you try harder, or throw in the towel?

Would you ask them if you're wasting your time, or just move on?

Some people are very chatty online. Some people are very chatty on the phone. Some people are very chatty in real life. Some people are all or some or none of the above!

Personally, I think you should throw in the towel ;).

On the other hand, it could be indicative of not having much in common.

I can't be bothered. If that's the limit of their wit I wouldnt get on with them so where's the point in prolonging the contact?

I wouldn't care what the reason was.

Oh crumbs yes...it feels like what I'd imagine extracting teeth to feel like....bluddy agony! No, I definitely don't try harder. If anything at all, I try less hard by not bothering to respond and then THEY try harder by writing another sentence or so but by then I've gone off the boil. Usually, if they can't string more than two sentences together I don't think they are going to be very good at communicating in any case.....which is what I found when I tried cutting out the messaging to see if there was any substance by talking to him on the phone. At least I gave him the benefit of my doubt.

Yeah, was thinking of asking to move it to msn. seemed such a waste of all that space and waiting for a reply on the messages here.

Did the honourable thing and ignored the last 10 words.

I left a message on a site asking if a perticular item was still for sale, was it ok to drive over and collect, does it work ok, do you have a contact number, if not heres mine.

I got a reply 2 days later saying: yes I still have it. WTF?

The guy has lost a sale because I cant be bothered getting involved in a game of message board ping-pong before I can travel 40 miles to part with my cash, its the same with dating, one sentence answers speak volumes to me about a personality, a good clear informative answer with a few questions about me chucked in gets my attention every time, but the pulling teeth approach leaves me cold, and its back to the

Unless I'm in contact with people by other means, one-line emails are a pain!

I don't mind receiving one-liners from people who I talk to on the phone or in real life, because sometimes it's just a quick " have you seen the comment from that idiot on the such-and-such thread?", but those women who can only write six words in every sodding email get ignored after a handful......

Ooh this is my pet hate scints

A single sentence first contact which out of politeness I reply to, having taken the time to read the profile and ask them something and second message is another one sentence message. And so it goes on .... I give up in the end, its like pulling teeth.

I think its a polite way of saying I am not interested or maybe they are too busy messaging lots of others. Some people make excuses not to meet too like busy at work etc tbh if they were busy on a couple of occasions and weren't able to suggest a suitable time to meet time to move along I think. Its not a good starting point though can you imagine sitting at a table during a date asking questions and getting one line answers?

I think sometimes we need time to answer most of the mail we receive and sometimes I write quick answers.
Yesterday for instance...... this man wrote to me saying that I was not interested because of a short message in return. I said, "Sorry for seeming rude but my son came in and I had to get his dinner warmed up and see to him".
He wrote back and said that he forgot people have other commitments other than writing e.mails.. He said sorry to me.
Some times we are not interested enough or we might not be in the mood to write loads.
Sometimes we are more talkative than other days... So it is up to you if you throw your towel in with people who write short messages, at least they did wrote back.

Ooh, yeah. i love that one.

Scenario;
Him- Hi, how's things?
You - Good, blah blah a few sentences. How are you?

Forward one week later;
Him - Hi, How's things?
You - (last chance you tit, a few sentences..)

One week later;
Him - How are you?
You -

I had a "one liner" who kept messaging me once. At the end of her one line was a button that said "block user" so I pressed it

Its really annoying to receive a short sentence, apart from the implication that they have not read your profile its also the mental laziness in this limited communication and the lack of reciprocity when you enter a dialog. I would forgive a first introduction but if the second is just as short and dull then its bin time.

why don't you just lay the cards on the table then that person will know what tree there barking up....
all depends,maybe they've replyed with long messages at the start of contact n the replies they've recieved leaves them wondering the same.....

so on that note i'd ask....you never know..you could be missing out on a good friendship maybe more coz in my book the best relationships start from friendship...

good luck scints...

I often get into conversations where we each are just writing a line each every other day...and then when they don't go up a gear I delete and drop....but I think its probably because I'm not seeing the man take the initiative and ask for my email or phone number...I think maybe some men expect to be chased by women...I'm old fashioned and if a man is interested he needs to ask for further contact, not me. I want a man not a mouse after all!

To be frank [well I'm still Johnny, just to avoid any confusion]

A typical message from me would go along the lines of :

Hi,

I loved your profile pics. I didn't get around to reading the drivel. So what I would like to know is .... Do you f*ck on the first date ?

So all I'm seeking is a one word answer to be fair.

If by some kind of miracle, its a yes , then I will continue with my correspondence. Conversely , if as is the norm , its a no , then I will throw the towel in. More often than not though the decision is taken out of my hands as I'm added to their blocked list.

I wonder why I'm single? I know its a mystery .

post edit.

I simply block em. Like i have done to quite a few in the recent past. Sometimes when they take an age to reply then they also get blocked.
If someone cant manage to string a few words together then they aint worth diddly and get the chop..simple as!
