| Thinking Spain, Greece, and Thailand... Suggestions? Posted: 8/9/2009 10:36:11 AM | Definitely Thailand, followed by Spain and Greece is a last option. Although the Greek Isles are gorgeous, a lot of the mainland travel is far over-rated in Greece and the Greeks were among the rudest people I've encountered anywhere in the world (that is not all encompassing of course, in order to be fair to those who are not!)... and in contrast, the Thais (and Cambodians and Laotians) are among the sweetest people I've encountered anywhere in the world!
Happy travels! Tiffany

| Thinking Spain, Greece, and Thailand... Suggestions? Posted: 8/10/2009 12:08:45 PM | | The most magnificient place I went to this summer was the Isle of Capri... off the coast of Naples, Italy... Maybe out of the way from the other places you have suggested, but definitely worth it... | |

| Thinking Spain, Greece, and Thailand... Suggestions? Posted: 8/29/2009 6:03:14 PM | island hopping in greece would be great, but between may and october.
you can also get to turkey and cyprus, if you google ferry times and prices you will get an idea of what routes are available!
greece is a lovely place, and well worth a visit, but there is so much of it to see!

| Thinking Spain, Greece, and Thailand... Suggestions? Posted: 8/30/2009 11:37:25 AM | I have been to Spain several times... southern portion is just awesome with beaches and its Moorish architecture. Madrid is a huge place, and the northern part is a lot of countryside...
There are so many places of historical significance, so there's plenty to see. Some people can be unfriendly (France is muuch worse though). Food is great though!

| Thinking Spain, Greece, and Thailand... Suggestions? Posted: 8/30/2009 4:47:44 PM | if you go to spain,
galicia's a great spot. greener and friendlier. barcelona's on the dirtier side, but in the best way, kind of like a chicago, maybe. madrid reminds me of boston, i guess you could say. women are incredible. never had any luck though, until i dropped the horendous american accent.
thailands' the best bang for your buck, for sure, don't know about greece. pick up a lonely planet or other travel guide, see if there's any festivals or something of that nature going on that may sway your opinion.
i like to have a couple of must sees, but keep rest of itinerary open.
happy trails, man. | |

| Thinking Spain, Greece, and Thailand... Suggestions? Posted: 8/30/2009 8:59:25 PM | | I took half the year off last year and spent my entire summer in Greece (an amazingly beautiful country) and also time in Spain. Both, I highly recommend. Any questions, feel free to send me a message. Go, go, go! Do it now, while you are able to. Don't wait for the 'golden years'. Hell, these are my golden years! | |

| Thinking Spain, Greece, and Thailand... Suggestions? Posted: 9/3/2009 1:02:58 PM | | If you are going to visit 'The Land of Smiles' the south has beautiful islands and beaches, with water sports, boulder climbing, tubing, kayaks etc. and a Filipino band in every bar. But the north also has adventure and culture and shop till you drop night markets. National Parks with mountain scenery - waterfalls, hilltribes, temples, elephant riding, trekking and rafting. Much cheaper and the food is fantastic. Go in October for Loi Kratong - the most romantic festival in the world. | |

| Thinking Spain, Greece, and Thailand... Suggestions? Posted: 9/4/2009 5:46:14 AM | Depends on your objective! They are all uniquely different places. Other relevant points you might consider is your travel time frame. It's still a wonderful time, although hot in Spain (at least in the cities that have always appealed to me in the Andalusia region... and Seville is my favorite city, it's still quite hot!) Things will be winding down soon in Greece. If your idea of a great escape is sailing the Greek Isles, that probably still works. Thailand is in their monsoon summer period and the weather is not optimal. Of the three Thailand is my favorite, but the optimal time for Thailand to experience it at its best is December through late February, early March, and if you're planning island visits, the weather pattern is different on the east coast than it is the west... Thailand gets my vote for another reason, dollar value. The dollar is worth much more against the baht than it is the euro by far and the over all cost of things in Thailand versus Europe, you will get a lot more bang for your buck in Thailand. If you're comparing the local people... Of all the places I've traveled, the people in Thailand (along with Cambodians) are the sweetest people in the world. By constrast, I've never seen more rude people in one place than I did in Athens. Whatever your choice, safe travels and enjoy! Tiffany | |

Any other places I should go instead? What I do is just think about and decide where I want to go. I don't ask anyone for advice about where to go, I go to places I am curious about and want to see. Another person's experience of a place may be completely different than mine, they may be looking for something very different out of the experience than I am. My advice is to go where you want to go and do what you want to do and have your own unique experience.

| Thinking Spain, Greece, and Thailand... Suggestions? Posted: 9/9/2009 7:04:21 PM | | Thailand: good food everywhere, great shopping if you are into textiles, even gems. Phuket and Kosamui in the South are best beaches. Bangkok is crazy-NYC X 10!Near Bangkok and Chiang mai (in the North) you can get great massages for like $4 /hr. In the North you can visit the hill tribes for the rural experience. There are temples all over Bangkok has some good ones too. people are nicer in less trouristed areas where they are less jaded. | |
