| | Just wondering how others feel about body "art"Page 1 of 3 (1, 2, 3) | -now, I'm not talking the typical little 2 x 2 tattoo, either discreet, or less so, but the full blown colourful "all over" artwork that some women (and I assume men also) now have. Now I know it's strictly a minority thing, but this is the weird bit. I was always brought up to think that tattoos are cheap, etc etc, but this whole body art thing intrigues me- in fact, I find it quite a turn on. Now I'm not going to lose any sleep over it, or go out looking for somebody who has it, but I genuinely do NOT find it offensive, as I assumed I would do. In fact I find it mentally stimulating, and it says to me that the person involved has spent a lot of thought, time and money investing in their body.
Just wondered how others felt about it.

| Just wondering how others feel about body art Posted: 7/13/2009 4:48:15 AM | Hey Metallguru, I agree I love body art of all kinds. I think it says alot about a person their own canvas of self expression. Tattoos and body peircings bring it. I will admit that for me I am not turned on by some and am totally turned head over heels for others. I myself have body peircings and decided tatts are not for me but I will drool over others with them gladley | |

| Just wondering how others feel about body art Posted: 7/13/2009 5:12:20 AM | | I don't have any tattoos; however, I do enjoy looking at other people's tatoos.........Those that do, seem to be telling a story about themselves and are not afraid to express themselves through body art...................It's just another expression and form of art.... | |

| Just wondering how others feel about body art Posted: 7/13/2009 5:19:44 AM | Tattoos arent cheap, they are quite expensive actually.
I have tattoos and personally I dont really give a rats ar*e what someone else thinks of them. I got them for me, they mark significant events.

| Just wondering how others feel about body art Posted: 7/13/2009 6:36:06 AM | Tattoos are attractive on others, and so is bare skin. I think both say something very important abut the person. Body display is a key to the person's life.
When I go to work.... I don't show my ink. But I have half or more of one leg done and full intention of having two full legs when its all over. They helped me with the terminal illness and subsequent loss of my mother. So they are beautiful, and helpful!!

| Just wondering how others feel about body art Posted: 7/13/2009 7:57:01 AM | I love tattoos and piercings on a partner, but some of the stuff is a little crazy. I think people should be mindful of where they put some of their artwork as it is not acceptable in some social setting or careers.
And wth is up with putting names on the neck? When I see that I think pimp/hooker as pimps mark their women like that. Why in the hell would any woman get a man's name tattoos on her body anywhere? I'll never understand that.

Tattoos are attractive on others, and so is bare skin Strangely I have to agree.... I have seen some people who look good with a Tat... and some who look awful... I don't think it's always whether that Tat is good or not... It's like long or short hair (or bald) on a woman or guy, on some people it looks great, others just don't look good at all. The drawback of course is that it's not easy to remove.... A few friends have considered Tats and I've told them, get it done in Henna or painted on first to see how it will look for a week , then if you like it go for it...

| Just wondering how others feel about body art Posted: 7/13/2009 8:07:52 AM | That is a very good suggestion m_church. Temporary until you decide if you can wear it... I don't regret mine, but getting them for very emotional reasons means that I see the beauty and the meaning behind them.
I think many tattooed people tend to be accepting of either decision. My husband is free of ink and I love him just the way he is.

| Just wondering how others feel about body art Posted: 7/13/2009 8:26:02 AM | | Oh my god! I just adore full sleeve tattoos on men! PHOAR!!!! I am a bit of a rock chic so prople from rock bands with tattoos totally float my boat. I am not so keen on them on women, unless they are tastefully done....I would love to get one myself but on my lower back so its not on show. Too scared of the pain tho haha. But yes, body art on men is a big YES from me! | |

| Just wondering how others feel about body art Posted: 7/13/2009 9:19:10 AM | I picture it on them when they are 70 and their skin is all sagging. Not a pretty picture.
I think temporary body art is cool...permanent? Not so cool.
But then, I have no tats at all...so I'm not really into the whole thing.

| Just wondering how others feel about body art Posted: 7/13/2009 9:22:43 AM | I generally dont like it. I love the female body and don't think it needs any decoration to become more appealing to me.
I picture it on them when they are 70 and their skin is all sagging. Not a pretty picture. Yeah, thats my thought exactly.

| Just wondering how others feel about body art Posted: 7/13/2009 9:30:20 AM | | I have seen very, very, very few that actually looked good to me. Especially from a distance, most look like dirt or deformity. I also would get tired of looking at the same picture or design all the time - I change the art on my walls, so would not want to see the same patterns on a person all the time. The blank canvas is better, when it comes to people - and if you want body art, the kind that washes off at the end of the day is great, IMO. | |

| Just wondering how others feel about body art Posted: 7/13/2009 2:05:03 PM | I'm not thrilled by them! I let my daughter get one when she was 17 - 3 tiny hearts to represent me, my son and herself. What a mistake that was - now she has stars all up and down her side - music notes behind her ears - birth sign on her elbow - flower on her foot and who know what else!! It made me cry to see all that! My daughter is 6' tall - a curvy size 6 - long auburn hair - beautiful - sad she has the tatoos! | |

"I know, seems petty and tragic, but that's just me...I don't like inkwork. I find it tacky as Hell and a complete turnoff. Every time I see inked females (and I mean wow ink...all over or multiples) all I can think of is prostitute/druggie/stripper/low self esteem/trendy."
That's the way I feel that I should feel, but I don't. I find it quite stimulating on the right person- maybe its a totally visual thing...

That's the way I feel that I should feel, but I don't. I find it quite stimulating on the right person- maybe its a totally visual thing... Could very well be a totally visual thing for you OP. Hard to say. But at least you know how you feel now about it all, and that's a pretty important step. Knowing is essential. Being "on the fence" about it is quite daunting to say the least, especially about a topic so often talked about.
I've seen and know a LOT of very VERY attractive females that sport a lot of ink. Inside I'm damn near weeping because I know that no matter how hard I try, I can never look past all that horrible inkwork. Physically stunning though they may be, I can't help but see them as completely ruined with all that so called "art".
Damn tragedy I tell ya.
~sigh~ | |

| Just wondering how others feel about body art Posted: 7/13/2009 4:16:35 PM | | I have one tattoo at this time. Not a small one but not all over ink by any means. Covers a portion of my thigh. It's something very meaningful to me and represents a major life event. I didn't do it wondering if someone else likes it or doesn't. I did it because I wanted it. Funny thing is, most people seem to be encouraging me to get more. It took me three years to decide to get this one. Not gonna jump into another one right away but I do like them. | |

| Just wondering how others feel about body art Posted: 7/13/2009 6:18:53 PM | | I think they're pretty cool on most people. I have however seen some that made me want to go and ask them WTF were you thinking when you "paid" someone to do this to you, and yet I have seen some fantastic artwork. Within the last, oh 5-10 years I have come to change my thoughts and opinions on this. These was a time when I thought a woman with a tattoo was nasty and easy, but as I got a bit older and began seeing some great work my thoughts and opinions changed, drastically. Now I think they're kinda sexy, no matter where they are, on most women. And some guys have some cool shit too, still not quite on the nipple and genital piercings bandwagon yet, but am very slowly beginning to think differently about them. | |
|
| Just wondering how others feel about body art Posted: 7/13/2009 6:35:27 PM | | Some of it is done well and very nice to admire. I don't know if I could date someone with that much art, however, since it obstructs seeing what their body actually looks like underneath. Too distracting. It would be like having sex with someone while their clothes were on all the time. | |
|
| Just wondering how others feel about body art Posted: 7/13/2009 11:00:22 PM | I love tattoos, but I believe that they should be strategically placed so that when at work they are not brought attention to. If you are truly into the artwork, this is what you do, otherwise you're just doing it for shock value. When my friends hit the gym with me, that's the only time they see them(I go in a tank top and shorts). Mine are on my legs, chest, upper arms, shoulders, back, & neck(under my hair). I think it's hot for a man to have a tribal around his bicep or something on his chest. And by the way, I do not worry about what it will look like at 70, I hope I won't be running around half naked at that point anyway. | |
