It'd be good to get somewhere really central.

Hi - I used to run the Leeds karaoke nights in 2007 before leaving the UK. I just started out with the help of one or two other fishees, and was given a room at a pub that also had karaoke every Thursday.
That then grew, and eventually Leeds then had some bigger and excellent nights.
There are a lot of fishees in the area, and I am sure that plenty would come along, despite there being other singles nights.
I would look for a suitable friendly venue, and it does help if you have your own room so people know who is and who is not a fish. But maybe start out in a pub, which could always cordon off an area, and then take it one step at a time, as opposed to organising a really big Saturday night venue with DJs etc.
There have been Sheffield events in the past, but people move on, get hitched up and I guess it is now over to you to get something new going. Just make sure you read the various POF guidelines on how to run an event as there are (very justifyable rules), and if you need more help there is also an organisers forum too where you can ask questions.
Oh, and I assume you are single, but as the organiser you really will meet an awful lot of people, and will be making many many new and most excellent friends.
I am thinking myself that Devon needs some kind of meet, but I am not there yet, move there in a couple of weeks so may have to do the same.
