| Big and Beautiful Posted: 7/20/2009 9:51:55 AM | I keep hearing this phrase and exactly was does "big" mean? The average size of a women is 14/16 in the US, so if your a size 14 does this mean your classify as big and beautiful or is it for women who are a size 6 and up? Just wondering :) Ps. I dont mean to be rude with this thread just completely curious because I have noticed when you go out anywhere there is not a lot of trim athletic women that is over 30. Sadly the younger girls in there late teen and early twenty are getting more and more overweight before they even have children. The world is so concentrated on the size of a women but yet most of us aren't stick thin and 120 pounds :( | |

| Big and Beautiful Posted: 7/20/2009 10:54:55 AM | Big and beautiful is relatively speaking a term for being a sized woman. It can be 20 lbs to 100lbs or more overweight. I am a big girl and I classify myself a BBW. Now some would classify me otherwise something else. Like me for losing 79lbs I classified myself as a bbw then and now.
Its just a term more than a being.
|
| Big and Beautiful Posted: 7/20/2009 9:00:49 PM | | I think it just means you have curves to you and a little meat on you. The term is quite broad and really it refers to a woman who is at least average sized who is still confident with her appearance. | |
|
| Big and Beautiful Posted: 7/21/2009 12:48:19 PM | To me a bbw is someone who has to shop at a plus sized store. I, myself, fit into a size 14/15 pants and wear a medium top... so I'm like boarder line. I can still shop at a mall.. but most malls carrey up to size 13... atleast in the stores I like :P
I think anything under size 13 pants and size Large top is average... anything over is bbw
|
| Big and Beautiful Posted: 7/21/2009 1:00:33 PM | I agree with the other post and would say that anything over 14/16 would be big.
However to me when I think BBW I'm thinking of a woman who is 50+ pounds overweight and looks it. You could have a build where you wear a size 16 but aren't really fat.
|
| Big and Beautiful Posted: 7/22/2009 10:26:53 AM | BBW or BBM seems to be the catch phrase for "I'm not going to do anything to stop this train wreck, please love me and see past my size." Size 14 today was size 18, 15 years ago. The smaller the designer makes an overweight person feel the more they buy the clothes.
As far as the over 30 crowd being larger than the under 30 crowd...NOPE, I don't think any particular generation owns the market on that one.

| Big and Beautiful Posted: 7/22/2009 10:54:43 AM | AWESOME!!
Yet another chance for the people of POF to argue what they consider to be fat AND get the chance to throw in that ever wonderful jab of cruelty.

| Big and Beautiful Posted: 7/22/2009 1:53:55 PM | Classically, size 18 is XL, 14-16 L, 10-12 M, 6-8 S, 4 XS.
However, lots of stores will size their merch to their targeted demographic. A size 14 is not the same as 14+. They are cut differently.
Normal sizing goes up to size 18. ""BBW" is 18 and over as far as I'm concerned.
I don't trust a man to have any idea about this- BBW = fat as far as their concerned.

| Big and Beautiful Posted: 7/22/2009 2:54:40 PM | i'm sorry but me to fat isnt sexy and anyone thinking they are sexy when they are indeed too big makes me LOL

| Big and Beautiful Posted: 7/22/2009 3:40:51 PM | not really, I dont like that you choose to do that to your body
if anything you should stop doing that and start doing the right thing.

if anything you should stop doing that and start doing the right thing Ah, the naivety (or arrogance) of youth. You've posted enough ridiculous things in this forum, that I doubt you actually know what "the right thing" is. Personally, I'd take a little extra weight so long as the guy has brains.

Have you read my profile or looked at my pictures?
... come back at me when you do.
P.S. What exactly do YOU think "doing the right thing" would consist of?

| Big and Beautiful Posted: 7/22/2009 5:15:00 PM | | Single in H Town, you could stand to put on 50 pounds. You look like a stick figure yourself. | |
|
| Big and Beautiful Posted: 7/22/2009 5:47:44 PM | | Two words: Queen Latifah. She's big and she's beautiful. And to quote Queen Latifah - real women have real curves. | |
|
| Big and Beautiful Posted: 7/22/2009 6:50:06 PM | Clearly just a" hurried typo"-- ""BBW = fat as far as their concerned." Their~they're Spot on in everything else you say! ( I knew you'd want to know!) :>) | |
|
| Big and Beautiful Posted: 7/22/2009 8:20:08 PM | | Big is a ratio scale, you have to compare it to something in order for the label to have meaning. Bigness is what you want it to be. For me, big is when someone walks by and I say "Holy siht". If I don't say "Holy siht" then that person is not big. | |

| Big and Beautiful Posted: 7/22/2009 9:01:53 PM | | diet, working out, drink alot of non tap water, up the willpower. | |
|
| Big and Beautiful Posted: 7/22/2009 9:02:37 PM | | lol, ive seen worse thin people then myself. | |
|
| Big and Beautiful Posted: 7/22/2009 9:03:14 PM | | I disagree, but she can think that and you can too. | |
|
| Big and Beautiful Posted: 7/22/2009 9:03:21 PM | BBW and other big terms are thrown out so much and they mean something different to many people.
For me a woman as an example can be a big beautiful woman and look like a woman from the 50's who had curves. Or it can be a curvy woman over five foot eight. Big is different from fat to me and there is even a group geared to fat acceptance, which is a whole different topic.
As a former fat person I want to note that fat is not healthy and I doubt anyone will ever convince me otherwise. Now someone can be fit and big, but I don't know of any woman who weighs hundreds of pounds like one sees on various tv shows about fat people, who are healthy. You cannot be healthy if you waddle to the bathroom or the only physical activity you get per day if walking to get food in the kitchen and then to your chair or bed.
And I would like to see anyone, male or female, adult or child, get unconditional support in an effort to get fit and healthy. And this does NOT mean going the opposite direction and getting thin where one becomes a dysfunctional eater. And that's the rub with me.
Nowhere in the world do you see billions of dollars being spent to get people to lose weight like we do here in the states. And some studies and even a few books I have read, suggest our weight issues whatever they are, have roots in loneliness and feeling unwanted and unneeded.

| Big and Beautiful Posted: 7/22/2009 9:07:08 PM | the right thing is simple
it;s what gilad does, it;s what stallone does, it;s what sharon mann does
you follow them, you will feel great and look great
It seems ive been targeted for simply speaking my mind, well that comes with everyone i'm quite sure, the fact is if you want to run faster, feel better, and want to live longer, putting on too much isnt the right thing to do, unless thats putting on muscle and that burns calories.
you can have your opinion, because thats what you want, and so you do
i'm not shocked in this world that if you give people advice on how to better thier bodies or problems, they fight you every inch, but that wont stop me from trying to help people/ or speaking my mind, as everyone else does.

| Big and Beautiful Posted: 7/22/2009 9:54:12 PM | Single in H: I don't think you've helped anybody. You need learn to criticize constructively and not like a d1ck. "Do the right thing" lol okay buddy.
Mystie D. is awesome and i'm pretty sure she's stronger than I am lol.
Not that I don't think bigger women aren't beautiful, but I can't stand queen latifah (irrelevant, but thought i would say it).
The U.S. avg size of people in general keeps rising and many people that we consider avg. size by a glance are actually overweight. There are a lot of people I've seen on here that I am proud of because they are making big changes in their lives to live a healthy lifestyle. It's motivating to see that people are pushing toward their goals.

| Big and Beautiful Posted: 7/22/2009 10:43:27 PM | Actually, its not so much the speaking of the mind, its the arrogance. You've said stupid things (eg- wheat isn't bad so long as its real wheat- as opposed to fake wheat??? Refined (white) wheat is still wheat. And if you did any research instead of just speaking your ignorant mind, you'd know that an ever growing amount of people find wheat very bad for them, and whole wheat the worst of all). You're a 22yr old male. I don't think you have a clue what the right thing for a 30 year old woman to lose weight is. There are TONNES of things, such as sleep, stress, diabetes, sleep apnea, food allergies/intolerances, thyroid issues, celiac, hormonal imbalances, medications, etc., etc., that come into play. "Eat less workout more" doesn't address that at all, nor does focusing on calories equate to focusing on nutrition or health.
Speak your mind all you want- but we're entitled to say that opinion of yours is ignorant. (Good thing you're skinny, cuz you sure don't seem too bright!)
