| classical music baroque style Posted: 7/20/2009 12:23:35 PM | Anybody out there who appreciates baroque music such as bach cantatas , handel operas, telemann, rameau or leclair. Much as I appreciate mozart, haydn and schubert, I never get tired from listening to this stylish music. Unfortunately, live perfomances of baroque music are rare , even in L ondon | |

I think that Trinity still teach a few modules specifically on that period. Catch the mid-term shows and the end of term shows, and you'll get some of the music you're after. One harpist and one recorder-ist ended up at the conservatoire at Basel. Their music would be right up your street. When they're gigging over here next, i'll drop you a line.

| classical music baroque style Posted: 7/20/2009 2:54:34 PM | Was doing some googling on this and came across two interesting sites. One was the Petrucci online usic library, http://imslp.org/wiki/Main_Page and the other was the Oxford Baroque week Chamber music course, http://www.baroque-week.org.uk/
Asked a couple of friends about this and they both suggested the Playfair dances. While it covers a different range of music to the composers you mentioned, it might be worth a look. Mid-17th to early 18th century music, and dance from the same period. Some lovely musicians. I'll ask them if they know of anywhere worth catching for gigs.

| classical music baroque style Posted: 7/20/2009 3:18:22 PM | | I too love Baroque music. I have been playing the Handel flute sonatas for about 35 years and the Bach sonatas for nearly as long. I am lucky as I spent a lot of my youth learning music, i am now a competent amateur musician and have played Bach, Handel Telemann, William Williams, Leclair etc etc in public in the past. My favorites are the trio sonatas. I have the Handel opus 2 sonatas as well as the Bach and a good quantity of Telemann so anyone out there in North Herts who would like to play get in touch. | |

Compared to later forms of classical music, it has a intimate feel to it that is was composed for performances in courts. I like that a lot, particularly when they use period instruments. Because modern instruments weren't designed for that form of performance.
