| Shoot Guns on a first date!! Posted: 7/21/2009 1:48:03 PM | | Is it me? or is that sort of on the "NO NO" list of things to do on a first date? Believe it or not I have gotten that asked twice in as many months..Anyone else been asked to go shoot firearms? Hello _______, nice to meet you..Here is my 10mm, and I willl be shooting my Kimber 45. Something about that just seems wrong to me.. I would really have to know someone before handing them a hot weapon..Anyone have thoughts and views on this? | |

| Shoot Guns on a first date!! Posted: 7/21/2009 1:49:17 PM | | LOL Maybe you were going to be the target :) I can't say that has ever happened to me. Not sure it would be bad to do once not sure on a first meeting. | |

| Shoot Guns on a first date!! Posted: 7/21/2009 1:53:53 PM | if it's a mutual interest, then why not
personally, it's something that might be a fun activity at some time, but not a priority or something that i would particularly enjoy as a first date; would make me wonder if we really do have much in common

| Shoot Guns on a first date!! Posted: 7/21/2009 1:55:37 PM | Not a 'total' no no. Depends on who you ask along.
I once had a 2nd date that involved taking a 'concealed carry' class together...all survived.
Yeah, that was kinda bizarre...

| Shoot Guns on a first date!! Posted: 7/21/2009 2:02:35 PM | | I took a girl to a shooting range once. I think it was our second date. But the girl has to like guns or it comes across as random and psycho. | |

| Shoot Guns on a first date!! Posted: 7/21/2009 2:06:40 PM | | Very valid points thus far...I can and have did the "Date n Shoot" Im from the south, so its sort of taught in our Baptist Sunday School Classes...(kidding) Second, dates on down are fine..I mean a first meeting, never laid eyes on one another. Only phone, email, and a dating site..You show up and hand one another firearms, and down here in Hayseed country its ladies first. So she gets the hot weapon first.! She could be a complete Nutter..Dont you think? | |

| Shoot Guns on a first date!! Posted: 7/21/2009 2:09:31 PM | Don't be silly... a shooting range is a great first date. I would only be hesitant if he had a shovel and bag of lime in the trunk of their car... I tend to not wear bullet proof vests and armour during the getting to know you phase of dating... | |

Sounds to me like the fear of a guilty conscience!

| Shoot Guns on a first date!! Posted: 7/21/2009 2:41:59 PM | I think guys who would "date rape" are the ones who sit in Barnes and Noble in front of everyone reading "How to make people like you." | |

| Shoot Guns on a first date!! Posted: 7/21/2009 2:49:20 PM | lol not it isn't a true first date thing.
You really have to trust the girl alot. No one wants to get shot at the shooting range. Then you teach her how to shoot. It's your basic date where the guy teaches her something and something about himself.
like everything weather it works or not depends on the people involved.

| Shoot Guns on a first date!! Posted: 7/21/2009 4:13:28 PM | What???
Sheesh, heck NO!
I have her do the driving while I do the shooting. And it has to be her car too.
The only thing up in the air is which bank it is we knock over.

| Shoot Guns on a first date!! Posted: 7/21/2009 4:28:13 PM | | I'm sure I would never suggest this on a first date, but if she did I would have no problem with it. I would never hand over one of my guns to someone unless we did a long safety lesson on them first, but if they had their own they wanted to use I would trust that they understood the inherent dangers in them. She could also just want to show you that she is not without protection incase you are some kind of freak. Personally I do think a woman that owns and knows how to handle weapons is hot. | |

| Shoot Guns on a first date!! Posted: 7/21/2009 4:42:49 PM | Guns on a first date? Only iffin’ it’s a double barrel and I can bring along my paw and some rice.
Okay, seriously. It all depends...who is going to pay for the ammo?

| Shoot Guns on a first date!! Posted: 7/21/2009 5:25:27 PM | | The first thing that I would do in a situation like that is RUN. This is a dating site and there is something wrong if someone wants to shoot a gun on their first date. | |

| Shoot Guns on a first date!! Posted: 7/21/2009 5:29:10 PM | i'd have to be more than a few dates in before going shooting. if you live in a city and it's an indoor range, it's too hard to have a conversation with the ear protection and the other shooters' reports. if you live rurally and are going plinking, you want to have a little more trust built up before heading someplace remote with firearms.
i got a message from a gal recently in new mexico who had a photo on her profile of her shooting her .44 mag. said she handloads too. so those heavily armed gals are out there.

| Shoot Guns on a first date!! Posted: 7/21/2009 5:36:15 PM | | I've never shot a gun. Setting up a time at a local range or club sounds like fun, unlike tennis even when you miss you still can say you hit something. | |

| Shoot Guns on a first date!! Posted: 7/21/2009 5:43:19 PM | | You know how guys give their gf's stuff to hold since the gf is the one with the purse? Spent a first date with a guy carrying his gun in my purse. Dated another guy who let me hold his gun on our first date while he explained it all to me. NOW both of these guys were cops so that was no biggie. Had they been regular Joe's I'd've hightailed it out of there. Too weird to just pull out a gun out of nowhere. | |

| Shoot Guns on a first date!! Posted: 7/21/2009 6:11:41 PM | I don't see anything wrong with it, should it be a mutual interest.
I think if a woman had asked me to go plinking (and followed it up with a BBQ dinner) I think I'd have proposed to her on the spot. Guns and meat cooked over fire! She's the one.

Anyone have thoughts and views on this? I've taken women to the range for a first date if I had planned on going to the range that day anyway and they said yes when I asked if they wanted to go.
I have noticed you can tell a lot about a person by how they approach the situation. Such as if they follow the range rules, or basic shooting rules, or get all excited and I have to step in and take the gun away before they wave it around. If they get really scared and want to run away after the first shot. If they go through $100 worth of ammo without ever having offered to let me shoot my own guns. If they get all..."girly"...about smelling like cordite and gun oil. If they ask how to shoot properly (if they've never done it before). If they actually try to hit something rather than just hold it loosely in their hand, shut their eyes, pull the trigger, then drop the gun past the bench with a shriek. If they wear extremely cleavalicious shirts for hot shells to fall down. If they prefer the automatic because it looks cooler even though the revolver fits their hand, has less recoil, and they did better with it in terms of accuracy.

| Shoot Guns on a first date!! Posted: 7/21/2009 6:47:33 PM | you need to wait until the second date, work in a discussion about firearms,is she afraid of them, or an avid shooter herself.Find out how much she knows, and if it's not much ,offer to instruct her on the basics with an unloaded weapon.Cover all the basics of safe handling procedures and range rules. Then make a date to go to the range. a good date is one where evryone walks away alive, and she should appreciate that you took the time to show her how to do it safely. Hawk. | |
