This is not a racial statement, but there’s no white fighters in boxing that are dominating. So they had to go and do something else and start something new.

I'm actually not as much offended as I am dumbstruck. Hey Floyd, does the name Klitchko ring a bell to you?

Way to know your line of work there einstein.

Oh, he's black so it's always ok for him to talk shit about other white athletes but if a white athlete says anything about black people then he'll get suspended. Just like John Rocker and how he was almost kicked out of the mlb for making comments about the subway in NYC. He was telling the truth and the liberals attacked him along with everyone else. But it's ok for a black athlete to say the most racist things about whites.

Bah. I've grown up around black folk, competeing with black folk, and the truth is that it's all about numbers and oppurtunity, as opposed to somekinda "inherent ability" that Hollywood cooked up and rich little white boyz swallow without question.

Boxing provides alot of poor black folks with oppurtunities they wouldn't otherwise have ... just like it did , once open a time, with Irish immigrants, or still does with Hispanics, or is doing with Eastern Europeans.

In contrast, there are far less "white" kids entering into boxing. And those who are tend to have more oppurtunity, or at least the percpetion of such, outside of boxing and so act accordingly.

So, if you have a group of 1000 people with no other oppurtunity, and measure them against a group of 100 people with plenty of other oppurtunities, then it is OBVIOUSLY going to be amongst the larger group that the greater talent emerges.

But you put any black guy in a fight for his life against any white guy, and its anyone's ball game.

As for Mayweather; he likes to talk smack against mma, which in and of itself is not so bad a thing, except for that he is unwilling to back it up ... prefering to pull a "reverse Lesnar" and chase a paycheck into the WWE. But everyone thinks they're the best, until their forced to ante up. And then we see what they're really made of. And we've seen what Mayweather is made of in the face of mma. Mayweather KNOWS mma is a threat to his legendary status, and so he'll avoid it like the plague no matter how much money Dana or anyone else offers. You can't pay him enough to take a beating like Sherk would give him in front of millions. It would destroy his image. And it would destroy the image of all boxers like him. So he does the only thing he can do ... he talks ... and talks ... and talks.

Mayweather is unarguably an AWESOME boxer. He'll stay there ... where its safe.

he is right to some extent. he could say the same for basketball. his statement does lack class. phelps could have said that blacks can't swim, though it probably would cause a riot, so he gets in trouble for hitting the bong instead.

There was a book written about the black athlete controversy. A blurb from Scientific America about Taboo : Why Black Athletes Dominate Sports and Why We're Afraid to Talk About It :
To his credit, journalist Jon Entine has tackled this problem with a no-holds-barred assault.

...

He opens Taboo with the firm conclusion that "to the degree that it is a purely scientific debate, the evidence of black superiority in athletics is persuasive and decisively confirmed on the playing field. Elite athletes who trace most or all of their ancestry to Africa are by and large better than the competition." While acknowledging that success in sports is a "bio-social phenomenon," he asserts that "there is extensive and persuasive research that elite black athletes have a phenotypic advantage-a distinctive skeletal system and musculature, metabolic structures, and other characteristics forged over tens of thousands of years of evolution.

...

To support this biocultural theory, Entine supplies a wealth of anecdotal information. For example, he notes that although Asians constitute 57 percent of the world's population, they make up a small fraction of professional runners, soccer players or basketball players. In contrast, whereas persons of sub-Saharan African ancestry comprise 12 percent of the world's six billion people, they disproportionately represent the top athletes in those sports requiring running, jumping and endurance. During the 1960s, the National Basketball Association's racial breakdown stood at roughly 80 percent white and 20 percent black; today that proportion has nearly reversed. In fact, a black male has a one-in-4,000 chance of playing in the NBA, compared with a white male's one-in-90,000 chance. Meanwhile, among professional women's basketball players, 70 percent are African-American. In the National Football League, 65 percent of players are black. In college sports, 60 percent of male basketball players and nearly half of all football players are African-American. In track and field, nearly every men's world record belongs to an athlete of African descent-including the top 15 world running records (ranging from 100 meters to the marathon). Such talent, Entine maintains, originates disproportionately in three African regions: the West African coast, North Africa and East Africa.

As for Mayweather's comment, he would have a point if a lot of white boxers who failed in the professional ranks were fighting in the UFC. But the majority of them come from grappling backgrounds.

This isn't the first time Mayweather has trash talked MMA. I think it was 2007 he said any good boxer would easily become a champ in the UFC. When Dana White offered to let him fight Sean Sherk, Mayweather apologized and backpeddled quite a bit. He'll do another about-face if White offers to let Mayweather fight BJ Penn. A lot of boxers are quick to bash MMA but none of them want any part of it.

Exactly. Mayweather ran his mouth before, and ended up apologizing, because he knew he would get pwned in the UFC. He may feel ballsy since Mercer KO'd Tim Sylvia, but Tim was so out of shape it was a joke. Mercer would get wrecked by any of the UFC heavyweights.
