SDHC CARDS
Posted: 7/23/2009 12:26:49 AM
I have a samsung phone and bought an mircosdhc card for it the other day..
I inserted it into the phone and went into my pictures folder...
This message appears "Memory cards has an unrecognised format. Reformatting will erase all data. Reformat now?"

After writting down all numbers etc, i pressed yes...
Nothing on the screen changes then after a few mins a message saying "error" appears on my screen.

Its driving me nuts!!...lol

Can some on tell me why its not working and what i need to do to fix it...

Thanks
Emmy

Remove the battery & put it back in (called Hard Reset)
Hold down the power button with the battery out for a few seconds
Then,
Put the battery back in & turn it on.

see if that works
if not...

repeat same thing without the memory card in
(see if you can put the card into your computer & give it a fresh format ...use 'Fat' not 'NTFS')

If your phone is an older model ... chances are it can't use SDHC (Secure Digital High Capacity) cards ... which are any SD cards above 2GB. You may need a firmware upgrade if that's available from the manufacturer.

As Padwan mentioned, check your phone's specs for the max capacity that it can handle. My LG phone says 2GB but it actually works fine with 4GB and 8GB cards. Your's may not.

You can also try formatting the card on your PC and then putting in in your phone. If you have the SDHC card adapter you can just connect it to you PC and it should automatically format. Once that is done you'll need to create one folder on the card and name it "DCIM". After that you should be able to put it in the phone and use it without any problems.

^^^^^Better try out that 2GB SD card in your phone before laying down the cash. You still haven't mentioned the age of your phone or whether Samsung has any firmware update for it.

Not all phones support SDHC cards, as previously mentioned.

You will need to check to see if your Samsung phone actually takes a micro SDHC card , it may only take a micro SD card.

I have a Samsung A711 and it only takes SD cards and I have a 2 Gb card in it and I have no problems with it.

Also , when the card is inserted , it should click into place , so check to see if the card is inserted and seated properly.

If you bought the phone new only 4 months ago, I can't see why it won't support SDHC. New phones ... or any new electronic device supporting SD ... should also support SDHC.

Firmware is just software stored on ROM in a computing device (instead of being part of a program) and is designed mostly for controlling hardware functionality. Did you check with Samsung tech support or their website??
