| Big Valley Jamboree 2009 Posted: 8/1/2009 7:32:34 PM | Storm knocks down stage at Big Valley Jamboree
A massive storm knocked down the main stage at the Big Valley Jamboree tonight.
Around 6 p.m., strong winds began whipping up dust and suddenly the stage collapsed.
A Billy Currington band member was assisted from the wreckage. His bloodied arm was badly injured. His band was playing when the stage went down.
There are reports of further injuries, but no details at this time. Scores of people are apparently trapped in the wreckage.

| Big Valley Jamboree 2009 Posted: 8/1/2009 7:57:02 PM | | One person confirmed dead...at least 60- 80 injured, unconfirmed number of people still trapped under the wreckage/missing. | |

| Big Valley Jamboree 2009 Posted: 8/1/2009 9:24:22 PM | Regarding being able to post the short posts, it's because that person hasn't been banned for "chatting" in the threads or some other ban of similar ilk . For those that have been banned, the number of characters per post varies - i.e. 100, 200 and so on.
And yes, in the grand scheme of things, it does matter for some people because they need to build up their character count to the required amount in order to post in a thread.

| Big Valley Jamboree 2009 Posted: 8/1/2009 11:43:31 PM | Wasn't good at all, one confirmed dead, 8 in hospital with serious and critical injuries, 60 - 80 more injured and as of the last news report...they think people still may be buried in the rubble. A lot of people injured weren't near the stage..they were hit by debris, tents and port a potties than were blown away, etc.
My son's gf and some of his friends were up there...was scary for a while since he couldn't reach any of them

| Big Valley Jamboree 2009 Posted: 8/1/2009 11:51:23 PM | It's almost 3 a.m., I'm in Ontario and just heard. Didn't hear that anyone died, but that it was a freak storm.
Some of our POF friends are there. Hoping that they, and all got out safe and sound.
Keep us updated. This is so terrible. I'm sorry for anyone who got hurt.

| Big Valley Jamboree 2009 Posted: 8/2/2009 9:13:41 AM | How awful this must have been. A stage 20 feet high totally collapsing! I just read up on this. I'm house-sitting for the weekend and somehow, for some reason ?? I didn't watch the news last night. And do they NOT get a newspaper?? lol Going home later today. Hope nobody stole mine. | |

I have friends up there too, hope they are all ok :(

| Big Valley Jamboree 2009 Posted: 8/2/2009 11:48:40 AM | | The news coverage last night was pretty pathetic...hopefully they will have more tonight | |
|
| Big Valley Jamboree 2009 Posted: 8/2/2009 5:29:21 PM | The only person that I am aware of that was up there was cmpfires, and I believe the word was that she was okay.
My heart goes out to everyone there, what a horrible thing to have happen at what should've been a good time.

| Big Valley Jamboree 2009 Posted: 8/2/2009 10:54:41 PM | I drove by BVJ on the way home tonight (I had to leave on Friday to go to another event), and it isn't a pretty site. :(
Kinda makes a person really think...when you are somewhere and leave and something like that happens! SO CLOSE TO HOME!
I would guess about 70 per cent of the people have left today, it looked pretty abandoned.
|
| Big Valley Jamboree 2009 Posted: 8/3/2009 12:50:14 AM | They cancelled the rest of the performances from what I've heard.
Who'da thunkit? Wishes for a speedy recovery to the injured.
