What a great weekend, thanks to all that made it out for camping and to all the others who dropped by to share the fun.

The biking was great for those that went and the long hiker with them was sore for a while, 14 plus kms is a LONG way!

Hearing the wind dropping trees in the forest was a little scary but none were even close to where we were!

Many thanks to Balled Eagle for aall his great work and to all who helped every one set up and take down the tents.

We have to do it again soon!

A big thanks to all how joined us for a fine weekend. Some managed to stay only a few hours or for the potluck. What a yummy feast we had.

The weather was great, though the wind Saturday evening was discontenting for a while, we never had any problems at all.

The small group allowed us to get to know each other better and by the time Sunday morning rolled around we were a group of good friends. What a great bunch of people!

Thanks to Kiddo and 1tabasquena for helping me patch my bike tire during the ride around Inland Lake. That was a fun excursion. Kudos to Roserose for walking that trail. I am pleases that everyone that went for that side trip enjoyed it so much... it sure was worth the effort.

I wish I had more photos to share but there were few dull moments and I was having too much fun participating, so I rarely had time to take photos.

We plan to do this every year and I have to wait until next year before I can reserve the site. Stay tuned.

I look forward to it.

Glad you all enjoyed this new experience together – am curious about the thunder storm on Saturday. Did you guys experience the drama of the Gods?

Starting approximately 10:30 - 10:45 pm Saturday we heard what I originally thought was thunder, but I was reminded that Powell River's annual SeaFair fireworks were scheduled Saturday. They always wait for night fall, at that very time, so think that is what were hearing, not thunder.

We did however see some lightning for a few minutes, well after midnight, without ever hearing any thunder. It wasn't as spectacular was what I saw reported on the Sunday evening news. I was relieved we didn't suffer from any hardships like other people in other campsites in the province suffered... vehicles damaged, people hurt.

It was pleasure to meet you and also your children. I am glad you all joined us. Getting that wonderful hug from Stacy was memorable, she's such a sweetie.

This morning I heard from a local friend who camped at Saltery Bay, only a half-hour drive from town. He said they get 20 minutes of rain on Saturday night. Of course its entirely his fault, for whenever he goes camping he gets rain and when he doesn't go camping the weather is great.

I've uploaded some photos of Inland Lake and the trail there. The trail is wheel-chair accessible, so is smooth and no more than a gentle grade. A few of us made that side trip for a bike ride or hike around it and a warm swim. Inland Lake is small and the water is much warmer than at Haywire Bay as Powell Lake is so big and deep (though was warm enough to swim in without getting the shivers).

Wow gorgeous lake, trail, and area! Looks like a fun time, and sorry I missed it but it looks like you "guys" had your hands full anyway Too bad you didn't get thunder and lightening, I miss seeing and hearing a great storm. They barely get ligtening here, but did experience it on Sat. night as well as a full rainbow about 9 p.m.

I hope to catch the next campout up that way! Have a great week, stay cool POFers.

I am unsure if Powell Lake (on which Haywire Bay is situated) has any frogs.

Inland Lake has an infestation of bull frogs, which are non-native to the area. Apparently some idiot released them into the lake, and now they cause problems for the native critters. They are abundant and you can see them most anywhere near the shore or off the bridge to Antony Island.

The tadpoles get really big too. I've seen some in "tail-only" stage, (no legs yet), measuring at least 6 inches long. The first time I saw them I thought they were odd-looking fish.

Looks beautiful BE and B&T - yup the more intimate gatherings are best...

Bit tent, little tent yuk yuk!

I'm a bit jealous about that dance floor....hmm. And a mite worried...what could be next?

I almost decided to go last minute as I didn't get to the Folk Fest this year after all (heresy - and on its birthday too !) - but even ~I~ recognized that as a crazy idea....YIKES! Seeing the photos however, makes me wish I would have tried.

So many wonderful places to be...so little time...we really do have it pretty good on this site and this part of the planet. Ah. Zen.

'Til the next one...

It really is a beautiful area . First-time visitors are usually quite impressed and come back for more. Some just move here. I did.

I'm making note of the suggestion to plan the next one for a long weekend. I will try to reserve accordingly, but must wait until January before I can try.

I've uploaded a few more photos, finally. POF has been misbehaving with the event photo upload function for several days and making a mess of my earlier attempts. Hopefully we can get the broken thumbnails/links removed to clean it up.
