Why do guys cut and paste generic emails?
Posted: 7/27/2009 11:54:19 PM
I often get emails from guys that clearly looks like they wrote something up generically and cut and paste and email it out? Why do guys do this? Do they seriously think that women are dumb enough not to notice that they are probably sending the same email to multiply people?

I've never done that but I can see why a person would. It's all about the numbers and the more msg you send, the more chances of an answer...

How do you know it's cut and past anyway? The message had to be original at some point.

I am guessing, but there are a few possibilities.
1- Total lack of imagination or just a lazy SOB
2- Men get much less replies to first contact than women do, so for some guys it may be a matter of mass mailing to improve odds.
3- I think writing the initial message is very hard. I will read the profile and message with whatever comes to mind. I can't say it has been entirely successful...so maybe these guys found a message that has a high reply rate.

Personally I wish women would have a cut and paste rejection message rather than reading and not replying at all. At least I would know where I stood then. ;)

Or, those men are THAT generic.

A LOT of guys look at it as a numbers game.

You're not going to be interested in a LOT of men. So, you're gonna have to go through a LOT of men to find the one you want.

Men figure on getting a lot of rejection. But out of all the rejections, there will be a small number that respond. A generic message can be sent quicker and faster than individual messages, which would probably be rejected anyways.

We don't know who is going to reject us, but we also don't want to waste a bunch of time individually messaging those whom are going to reject us.

Once I saw a profile from another site that looked particularly interesting. So I spent about 20 minutes crafting an email just for her, making sure to put specific things about her profile into it. She wrote me back accusing me of sending out a generic email. So I no longer write more than a couple of paragraphs.

So, in answer to your question, no matter how dumb I think women can be, I am generally surprised that some can be even more dumb.

why would you want that...?
if you send out 10 emails monday , tuesday and wed.. all nice and bright cheerful and positive only to come back thursday to find 30 replies in your inbox full of 'no thanks youre not my type..' you would feel better about yourself..? you would feel you had had a productive and positive day...?

i guess men send out copy paste messages for just that reason.. if they have for example 2 hours to spend searchng and sending messages twice a week, they need to spend that time effectively, if they only get 1 reply in 30-40 messages, then spending 5-10 mins composing a witty intertesting and original message is not gonna be practical....

girls ignore mail.. guys send copy/paste mail.. those 'rules' have become the norm of interent dating...

Bwana, that's awesome! Anyway, guys that send these generic emails must get some replies, otherwise they would change their strategy at some point. Plus, if women have a generic profile (which a lot of them do), how can they tell whether the guy read it or not?

I think generic email where the guy clearly did not read my profile gives me nothing to work with to respond back. So wouldn't that just be a waste of their time and mine? I think most women would respond back to you if you actually wrote something that would engage me into a conversation.

What you write in the initial email is, for the most part, irrelevant. I can also tell you that many women employ the same exact strategy. Hell, i get many that aren't even a copy & pasted generic email, they are just one line such as "Hi, how are you?" or "Hey wanna chat?"

Have you ever written a 3 paragraph introduction/opening message only to have it read/deleted? I doubt it.

That being said I do not cut and paste messages, But i have no problem at all keeping it simple until she expresses mutual interest in communicating. wasted effort = frustration = not enjoying my time here.

NOPE.

Women don't tend to respond to men they're not interested in, regardless of what the guy wrote.

OCCASIONALLY, a woman here and there will respond to say "thanks" if the guy left her a compliment that seemed genuine.

"Why waste your time on someone your not interested in having a relationship with?" is the mindset that predominates women in these waters.

I spend time reading every profile before I bother messaging the girl. Most of the time, my work goes to waste as the "woman" doesn't even have the common courtesy to reply with a simple, no thanks. Dating is just a big stupid game, especially online, and you girls love to point the finger. The problem is, all the problems in guys you find, you are guilty of doing yourself. I won't resort to a copy and paste mentality, but I def don't bother writing detailed or "well thought out" messages like I used to. Like mentioned, I just drop a line, compliment the girl in some way, and/or mention something we have in common, and see if I get a bite.

A several paragraph intro to a woman who you've never met???? ROTFLMAO....
If I were a woman I would instantly assume you have become a stalker just from looking at my picture. 3 4 5 paragraphs.....? Who does that?
I write 2 or 3 sentences and have always gotten a response. Women here are very courteous that way, but most of the time they just answer and don't give any indication of interest or disinterest, so it's hard to judge if I should write back. Out of all the women on here who have wrote back, I have only rewritten 2 because that's all that showed interest in me.

Honestly, I don't think that I have ever gotten a message from a woman that is more than 10 words, yet they say guys are the ones that send generic mail. I guess if you aren't on this end of the spectrum you wouldn't know what other women write. There are many times that I have written a few messages that are considered to be very long and in depth, but yeah read/deleted. A mind is a terrible thing to waste so I tend to mention something about their profile, maybe ask a question and leave it at that. If they are interested they will respond.

ever think they arent cut/copy pasted? that they just know everything is looks first and dont feel like spending a day writing a 20page essay that they know you wont read once you see the pic.

consider it a longer way of saying hi asl and not generic emails that may have been cut/copy pasted.

The answer here is a no-brainer.
Here are our choices.
(1) We spent a lot of time crafting a carefully thoughtout message because we like what we saw and read about you. In response we get either "read/deleted" or "unread/deleted"

(2) We try humor just to get our foot in the door. In response we get either "read/deleted" or "unread/deleted"

(3) We send oud hundreds of the same exact message in the hopes of gettin one freakin reply back rather than either "read/deleted" or "unread/deleted"

It is indeed purely a numbers game.

I don't send out cut & paste, but I understand and feel for those who do.

LASTY...Try crafting out a thoughtful first message to a one or two sentence profile of fluff! WTF???

Laziness, and the misguided thought that a long introductory email is necessary to get a woman's attention.
