| Bad phrases Posted: 7/28/2009 6:14:39 PM | I've noticed bad reference to certain phrases lately on the forums some of which include, "down to earth" or "relaxed" etc. For me "down to earth" means a calm person not prone to frantic brain spasms or stupid compulsive behaviour, rather a thinker, aware etc. So the question is, what are the impressions you women get from phrases like these two examples? Good or bad? What is one not so obvious example of a phrase you women might look for? | |

| Bad phrases Posted: 7/28/2009 6:16:11 PM | | I can't stand it when a guy states "very attractive" or "look younger than my age" . . those are things I'd like to decide on my own. | |

| Bad phrases Posted: 7/28/2009 6:23:37 PM | So the question is, what are the impressions you women get from phrases like these two examples? It's not what the phrases mean, per se. It's the fact that they're tired old lines. When someone uses phrases like this they come across as totally unoriginal and completely uninspired.
Often, I question whether they even know what they mean or of they're just writing what they think people want to read.

| Bad phrases Posted: 7/28/2009 7:17:32 PM | | For me, down to earth means simple. | |
|
| Bad phrases Posted: 7/28/2009 7:25:53 PM | | "Im not like other girls" means...Yes you are. | |

For me, down to earth means simple. Yeah, there's a lot of that goin' on around here........

| Bad phrases Posted: 7/28/2009 7:30:48 PM | Down to earth and laid back are just the typical generic lines.
I always thought down to earth, and laid back screamed boring, but that's just me.
Too many poeple use the lines, which makes them both highly played out.
I'd rather describe my personality in a much better light, than coming off as a dud.

| Bad phrases Posted: 7/28/2009 7:31:42 PM | | I like flights of fancy, which doesn't come from down to earth-- | |
|
| Bad phrases Posted: 7/28/2009 7:33:38 PM | | I always hate someone saying, "Have a Nice Day," or "Let's be Friends" or "How Far do you Live from Me?" or "You're a very nice person." | |
|
| Bad phrases Posted: 7/28/2009 8:20:01 PM | Frankly, I'm bored with those phrases. I'm also really bored with, "I work hard and play harder", "People say that I look younger than my age", and "I'm looking for my soul mate". PLEEASE! *pulling hair out* Another thing that astounds me are the pics that some men post. It really grabs MY attention when I see a guy holding his latest 'catch of the day' up in front of his face, or when he captures his glorious hairy back in a nude shot taken in the bathroom mirror. What's up with that?? Yuck! | |

What's up with that?? Yuck! - lmao, don't get me started with the fish photos. Who started that trend? Most women I know are not attracted to dead fish, lol

| Bad phrases Posted: 7/28/2009 9:17:24 PM | Most of those phrases just seem like they threw the lines in without thinking about what they actually meant, because we see them so often. It's like seeing the "no drama, no games, no players" lines everywhere, or the "my friends tell me..." <-- that one annoys me, because I don't give a crap what your friends say about you. If you don't have the guts to take responsibility for the description of your own personality, I'm not all that interested.
As for the fish thing, that doesn't bother me so much. I don't see why men shouldn't have the right to be proud of something they have fun doing. Women put up pictures of them with their kids and pets all the time, and most men I know don't go WOW at that.

| Bad phrases Posted: 7/28/2009 11:37:02 PM | "Down to earth" = I don't have a good job
"thanks for reading" or worse "thanks for stopping by" are two I hate
|
| Bad phrases Posted: 7/29/2009 1:03:01 AM | "Looking for a real woman."
Makes me start to vaporize, so I just skip the profile and move along. . .

| Bad phrases Posted: 7/29/2009 6:03:14 AM | "Anything else you would like to know, just ask" === I am at a loss for words because I know that I am boring.
The other one is not a bad phrase, but twice as bad: putting your email address on your profile. You don't have to be a rocket scientist to know that every crackpot can and will email you if it stays there long enough. Also:
email on profile==desperate for ANYBODY to talk to you.

| Bad phrases Posted: 7/29/2009 9:19:12 AM | | I wonder how many people are running to their profiles right now to see if they have any of this stuff wrote on it. LOL, I did, but I will leave it on there. | |

| Bad phrases Posted: 7/29/2009 9:26:24 AM | Down to Earth is subjective.
One could say that means grounded. Is well read and has a lot of diverse life experiences to draw from hence forth has a realistic sense of themself and the world around them.
Another might describe one of those people who eats all organic food from their garden, and burns essence, meditates and does yoga everyday as down to earth. While someone else will call them flakey or a hippie.
That is a very subjective phrase.
|
| Bad phrases Posted: 7/29/2009 10:54:17 AM | | Down to earth means to me that he is just that. Kind of like "don't be scared of me, I don't think I am high and mighty". Relaxed to me means that he isn't looking for anything serious....just hang and see what happens. That's my take on it :) | |
|
| Bad phrases Posted: 7/29/2009 2:55:26 PM | | its always worried me when a guy says "i like the simpler things in life"...or "ive learned many lessons about love over the years"... | |
