| Hot enough for ya? Posted: 7/29/2009 1:37:24 AM | | This is insane. It's like living on the sun. Has anyone seen my tits? I sweated them off a few hours ago. What's the warmest day you've ever experienced? Where was it? Before this I think Lynton was the warmest I've ever felt at a balmy 34 degrees. | |

| Hot enough for ya? Posted: 7/29/2009 1:59:55 AM | ^^^ Did you mean "Lytton"? as in ... the Fraser Canyon? Here in Abbotsford with the Humidex we reached 43 today. And tomorrow is supposed to be even hotter. Good time to remind everyone about not leaving doors/windows open, esp. at night. You know .... night prowlers, masked bandits & such. | |
|
| Hot enough for ya? Posted: 7/29/2009 3:11:14 AM | Ya, it is cookin out there, just hot enough, to cook your morning breakfast of ham n eggs on the street.
Ya, Lytton, would be hot, and how about Oliver, Osyoos, Penticton, and all up the whole OKV.
Hopefully, they got that forest fire put out, up there.
With the heat of the forest fire, and the heat of the sun, ya would sizzle like bacon.

| Hot enough for ya? Posted: 7/29/2009 5:09:47 AM | I was in Adelaide Australia and the day I left for home it was 42C, which is a tad warm. I arrived back to Winnipeg and it was -48 C windchill.
I will take the heat. | |
|
| Hot enough for ya? Posted: 7/29/2009 6:07:26 AM | thanks to my oldest breaking the only fan we have by knocking it over vaccuming, I woke up at 4 am due to this heat sat in the living room next to the biggest window in the house to feel the cool early morning air I'm still awake
hottest i ever experienced would be childhood vacations to Kamloop where I walked barefoot everywhere... some days I couldnt step foot on the clay ground ..ouch

| Hot enough for ya? Posted: 7/29/2009 6:54:57 AM | I lived in the tropics for many years, and this is actually pretty typical weather for those places. It'd be no big deal except the buildings aren't built for it and that makes it too hot inside.
Hottest weather I ever experienced... Probably something like 50 or 51 C. Long ago, for a few years every August I'd go on holidays in the southwest US, driving down in my beat-up old truck with no air-conditioning except open windows. That was hot, but I got used to it pretty fast. One morning I got up, stuck my head out and thought "hm not so hot today". Then I looked at the thermometer - 47 C.
Today feels like it's going to be a hot one again.
|
| Hot enough for ya? Posted: 7/29/2009 7:27:20 AM | nag, nag, nag,.... when its hot and when its not
ain't cha all happy to have the weather to complain about?
now will someone hand over some ice for my drink
^^^ traveller 51 C to -47 ??? (minus) in one day??? I misread, right?
Most extreme I've experienced was central Asia, Hindukush Mountains, mid day in the shade 57 C, 5 am minus 6 C...good thing I was a teenager then....it would kill me today
|
| Hot enough for ya? Posted: 7/29/2009 8:18:40 AM | 51 C to -47 ??? (minus) in one day??? I misread, right?
I guess that was the wrong place to put a hyphen! it was +47 C in the morning, and presumably somewhere around 50-51 C mid-day, as usual.
Most extreme I've experienced was central Asia, Hindukush Mountains, mid day in the shade 57 C
That brings back memories! I remember riding my bike on tour in Pakistan. The day we headed north out of Islamabad was my sweatiest ever (in my entire life). I don't remember exactly how much water I got through, but it was 16 or 23 litres (in contrast, during a day's riding in Morocco, I'd drink about 10-12).
This is the advantage of growing up in Alberta; it pretty well immunizes you against weather. Where I'm from, winter temperatures reach -52 C, summer up to around +40 C. The temperature changes by 30 C on some days. In fact, the place holds the official record for the largest known temperature change in Canada, from -19 C to +22 C in one hour (Jan 1962). That's because of the Chinook wind, and the wind there blows all the time - an average of 20 km/h with gusts up to 177 km/h.
So 32 C here in Vancouver ... meh... a bit hot but I'm sure I'll survive. :P

| Hot enough for ya? Posted: 7/29/2009 9:55:09 AM | I remember some pretty hot times in Winnipeg but I best remember being stuck in Castaic California (30 mi. out of L.A.) waiting for a produce load. The heat was like a solid wall and your lungs burned to breath the dry hot air. Of course the a/c stopped working and we had to pour jugs of water all over the cab. I used the only 12 volt fan on my dog in the sleeper .There were warnings for the locals not to go outside so you can guess how had it was. When we stopped in at the rolling Hills Casino I carried my dog Geronimo to the trailer( pavement too hot to walk on ) and we both climbed into the refrigerated trailer and laid down on the floor while my co driver gambled. My worry was that someone could lock us in. I have a suggestion. Darken all your windows even if you have a/c. if not place your fans to circulate the air. get a spray bottle and fill it with ice water to spray yourself through out the day. make yourself a head covering ( bandanna, kerchief ect.) and keep it wet. wear loose clothing. Don`t use your oven to bake or roast (or you will roast) Drink all the water you can. | |

| Hot enough for ya? Posted: 7/29/2009 10:12:16 AM | | I should have added this to my reply. During this long hot spell wild birds other wild animals have difficulty finding fresh water. If you have an outside bird feeder keep the water container full or keep a full pan of water out for your feathered and furry friends. Also make sure your pet has shade and water. | |

| Hot enough for ya? Posted: 7/29/2009 11:33:12 AM | I retired from a sport because of the last game I played. In Ontario, early Sept,,,so hot and humid that the concrete floor sweat!!! I mean literally sweating. Ended up playing 2 overtimes, then spending 4 hours in a hospital getting my fluids back, so I could fly home that morning. I was hurting for a week afterwards. Didn't remember half the game,,,which was okay cause we lost, lol.
Boys at work this week are hurting,,,but they all know about the water, etc. Gets much closer to the magic 40 degree mark I'm sending them home. Hmmmm, that reminds me,,,,I best get out of this office and go out and see them.

| Hot enough for ya? Posted: 7/29/2009 12:12:18 PM | "I remember some pretty hot times in Winnipeg."
Ohhhhhhhhhhhh, yaaaaaaa, I to also remember those days all to well, when I was living in Winnipeg as well, abacusblack.
It would start getting hot, hot, hot, in early May, and it would stay through the whole summer, until about August, then it would start cooling down.
Hot, and muggy, and looooooooooooooads of mosquitos.
It was sooooooooooo hot, that it was MANDITORY, to have built in A/C units in a house.
Not too sure if you had heard, but this year, Winnipeg, have FINALLY, got their hot weather, or warmer weather, after a loooooooooong winter.
Which, they also had their typical, huge Red River, (or sea) flood this year.
Watched all of that, on a live video feed link, through Windows Media Player of CBC/Manitoba news at six.

what great advice! I never thought of the birds (duh), but I worry about dogs that are left outside without shade or heaven forbid left in cars or made to jog beside their owners while the owner rides his bike .... I hate that!
I saw on the news last night that it DOES help if you put a bowl of ice in front of a fan.

I must be missing something, was 12C this morning when I got up and is raining and only 20C now.
Did I miss the hot weather? we are after a record of 8 straight months with a low average high temp. Gotta luv global warming!

| Hot enough for ya? Posted: 7/29/2009 12:57:49 PM | So I decided this heat wave would be a good time to try the pre-owned dehumidifier I bought years ago. High humidity contributes to the discomfort that we feel during these high temperatures because our sweat doesn't readily evaporate to cool our bodies. (evaporation of sweat is the cooling mechanism Mother Nature granted to us). Drying the air helps our sweat to evaporate and improves comfort.
From the time I switched it on it took less than a minute for the condenser coils to be covered with water which drains into the collection container and I'm already noticing an improvement here.

| Hot enough for ya? Posted: 7/29/2009 1:12:33 PM | Ahhhhh, witty_ .
It was warming up back there, bit, the way it has been, it cools down pretty quick to, kind of unpredictable, one moment it id good, and the next, well, some rain, and clouds, with some lightning storms.
But, thats Winnipeg, and Mnaitoba for ya, still, I still love the place, cannot forget about them roots.

| Hot enough for ya? Posted: 7/29/2009 1:14:53 PM | Hell yes! 40.5 yesterday here in Penticton; it's like Africa hot. | |
|
| Hot enough for ya? Posted: 7/29/2009 1:17:41 PM | This morning when the temperature was still a cool 25 degrees or so, I installed my air conditioner into my bedroom. When I lived in an apartment I bought it because it had enough juice to cool the entire place. I will be moving the computer, TV, and Xbox in there and hunkering down for a few days.
The blower for the AC in my car died on Tuesday morning, just in time for me to drive from Chilliwack to Burnaby, and then back to the island last night.
While I find this kind of weather uncomfortable, I just really limit the times I do certain activities and drink lots of water to keep cool.
|
| Hot enough for ya? Posted: 7/29/2009 2:39:34 PM | | I went to the hospital close by me and got some water and food and just read and did crosswords for a few hours. how exciting is that. | |

Hollllllllllaaaaaaay, good lord, 40.5 yesterday there in Penticton.
Are you by chance cooking dinner on the streets of Penticton, mrchicken???????
Used to live in Penticeton, of the OKV, years ago, and I know how hot it can get out there.
Hope your not too far, from Okanagan Lake, go for a cool swim afterwards.
|
| Hot enough for ya? Posted: 7/29/2009 5:06:19 PM | | Yup, I think so! I am tired of desperately seeking shade, water and fans. I am cold most of the winter but this is not exactly what I have in mind when I think of summer. | |
|
| Hot enough for ya? Posted: 7/29/2009 5:13:26 PM | The heat and humidity we are now experiencing throughout B.C. feels alot like Florida. I normally love the heat..but I hate being sweaty.
Is anybody getting any sleep in this heat? At 2:00am this morning I was tempted to jump in my car and head to a 24 hour casino just for the air conditioning!
