Posted: 7/29/2009 9:29:03 AM | Just reading a thread discussing who'd had the weirdest dates on POF, and it got me thinking.
I havent had any real weirdos (not that I want any) but my American friends seem to encounter this problem alot. Maybe I've just been lucky. However for what it's worth, and a few ladies here seem to think that because no-one really needs to pay fees to be on here then it attracts 'players' (or whatever other word you want to use for them; 'liars' 'idiots' 'losers' etc etc etc). I feel from previously and stupidly paying for dating websites that those men on those payable dating sites feel you owe them a shag because they paid for it and spent their time investing in you, therefore you owe it to them to sleep with them. That is why I cancelled mine and came on here.
So has this happened to anyone else on here, or have I just been lucky with all the English losers I've been out with from here? lol

Everyone I've met has been, as best I can tell, very much who and what they seemed to be, and nice, too. With all besides that one there've been at least two dates.
The fact that I don't agree to meet many may have something to do with this. But I think most of it is just luck, really. | |

If the chemistry isn`t there thats another story.POF is a network system... Nothing more or less.
It seems to work very well.

The worst date I had consisted of a woman from some small town in Alabama. Looked almost nothing like her photo, weighed almost 300 lbs. judging from her appearance, always 'texted' in my presence, and smelled purely like cigarettes. I tried to tolerate it for almost a month, but I gave up after that. Smoker's breath makes me gag like hell.
It was more of a fling than anything. I was depressed and I ended up doing some really bad things with her. We were friends after the "break-up", but we don't talk that much anymore... | |

Let's review
Your worst date looked nothing like her photo, weighted almost 300 lbs, was rude, and smelled strongly of cigarettes, and yet you dated her for a month.
You did "bad things" with her and were depressed, and finally broke it off, but you remained friends, at least in the beginning.
Makes sense to me!
Quick question- if your date was a trannie would you stay with them for at least a couple of weeks? | |

I try to be as considerate and interested as I can, given the circumstances that I would rarely get dates or messages/replies from other users. I used to tell myself "This is all you're going to get, so deal with it and try to have fun."
As for the trannie question, if we shared a few interests here or there, perhaps I'd give it a chance... maybe.. okay, I don't know. I twitch at that thought. Maybe I'm way too considerate.  | |

Ah, ok, so because you don't get too many responses on here, you've lowered your standards to the point that you would date for an entire month- obese, rude women who totally misrepresent themselves, and you wouldn't necessarily exclude a man who is dressed up as a woman.

I bet you could increase your odds even more if you check out the local zoo.

That is pretty bizarre. Totally OT but I did have a date where the lady brought in a flask to the bar we were meeting at to see a band play. She would order 7up and then go to the bathroom to spike it. I found it odd as drinks at this bar are dirt cheap $4 to $7 and I was paying. | |

Look at where I live! I'm surrounded by christian crazies and overweight people galore. Their excuse seems to always be a thyroid related problem or the fact that southern food is "too good", bleh. I hate the south. I always have.
I kept my standards 'low' until a certain someone messaged me that was everything I imagined as the "perfect girl"; My profile lists what I consider the "perfect female".
Nearly 7 months with her and I have passed. Woohoo. So why am I still here?

But what if the bigger people share interests with me, yet the skinny people share no interests with me? I'm not changing what I like/dislike because my area restricts me to a limited selection of uninteresting/unattractive people.

nothing wrong with dating overweight women, if that's what you're into, or, as you put it, they're about the only thing coming your way. But you're the one who said, in your first post on this thread, that she weighed considerably more than you expected. Which indicated to me, that the weight was a turn off for you.
Then again you say "why should you change what you like", but on a subsequent post you said you wouldn't rule out dating a guy who is dressed like a woman. Which means that you're either gay, or you're changing what you like/dislike because your area restricts you.
So which is it? Are you gay or are you being hypocritical? | |

Oh and then there was the guy who got lost coming to meet me at Elephant Bar and got mad at me for it. The damn place is on a corner. You cant miss it. While I was waiting for him I sat at the bar I started reading the Real Estate section of a paper that was in front of me. He gets there and sees me doing this and calls me a dork! We proceed to have a meal and he orders a Pina Colada(I know I know but I really wanted that damn artichoke dip). During the meal he talks about how his ex always wanted to go out for expensive meals blah blah and that he has hot guy friends. Sweet! Do you think you call one of them to replace you because you are getting fuglier by the second pal.
We finish the meal and he stretches out in the booth and says this would be a good place to make out. Uhh yea I think I'm allergic to coconuts. This guy was unreal. I have never been out with a more arrogant and**** douchebag. A | |

Um...for what it's worth...I don't drink beer (I did, back in college but I never liked it).
Most of the time I order tropical rum drinks such as Mai Tais, Bahama Mamas, unless I'm in the mood for a Vodka Cranberry, or a Tequila Sunrise or just a plain screwdriver.
Sure I get some raised eyebrows from a first date or even the bartender but I don't doubt my own masculinity and I like the way they taste. If someone is going to judge me by what I choose to order from the bar, then it's their loss.
And yeah, Pina Coladas and Strawberry Daiquiris would be on my list if they didn't have so many carbs. | |

This was not a POF date but I had this woman txt me asking if I wanted to meet up for a burrito and margarita. We had met at a bar about a week earlier where I was seeing a friends band played but had not been on a date yet. I replied back "Sure. How about around 8:00 as I need to go to the gym first." The reply I got back was "I am hungry now." Somehow my better judgment did not kick in and I said "Sure give me 45 minutes to clean up as I just got home from work". I get to where we were meeting about 5 minutes late to find she is already seated and working on a margarita. I sit down, we start talking and the waitress comes by so I order a margarita to which my date adds "Bring me a shot of patron."
Being a Tuesday night, I nurse my drink, enjoyed my food and tried to enjoy the company. When she ordered another shot of patron half way through the meal, I decided it was a lost cause. By the time the waitress brought the second shot we were close to being finished with our meals so I asked for the check. As we were walking out she asks "So you want to go head out for some drinks?" | |

Southern California. In my area this is the average price range (it varies a lot based on well vs top shelf) for a domestic beer is $5, import $6-$7, mixed drinks $6-$9, martinis $11 - $18. Martinis seem to be in a class all by themselves. | |
