Posted: 8/1/2009 4:35:16 PM | Take for instance the trillion dollar stimulas bill that was passed by Congress which none of our politicians took the time to read.Has it by now come to everyone`s attention that we have a similar fiasco playing out in the Congress concerning National Health Care.It should come as no surprise that the yokels in Congress could care less evidenced by the comments by House Judiciary Chairman John Conyers,D-Mich., in which he goes on to state "I love these members,they get up and say , !Read the bill!. What good is reading the bill if it`s a thousand pages and you don`t have two days and two lawyers to find out what it means after you read the bill?"
I suppose this is the now the SOP of our elected officals who will simply just rubber stamp what ever is put in front of them.
My question is simply this......What the hell are these guy there for if not to do the job that we elected them to do.....,which includes reading proposed bills before they vote on them...? Contempt....?....................You be the judge.......... | |

thats pretty funny considering almost every one has now said that there is no way there will be a vote this summer. members will have at least a month to read the version that just passed the House Energy and Commerce Committee and nobody (thats nobody) is predicting a full vote in either chamber of congress any time soon.
sure does feel good to get your panties in a bunch though. the republicans had eight years, six of them with complete control of congress, to pass some sort of healthcare plan. they never even proposed one.

It could as easily be asked what the hell the citizens of a representative democracy are there for if they don't bother to learn how government works, understand the issues, participate in political campaigns or do anything other than complain after watching TV. | |

Obama ran on Health Care Reform, and Was elected by a majority of the people.
As for senators reading the bills out there, there are still three versions in the works, should the read all three versions, or wait till a unified bill starts to form then become more familiar on what each version offers and pick the best options to serve their constituents.
This is called the "sausage making" phase, where you see all the stuff that goes into making the sausage. | |

They are professional whiners. The rightwing has no ideas, no solutions, and no moral center. They just make up things to be afraid of.
The republicans spent money like drunken sailors, and the wingnuts cheered them on. As soon as they lost the election, they suddenly decided they don't like govt spending and started throwing tea tantrums
Similarly, they had 8 years of republicans passing bills they didn't read (the PATRIOT Act, anyone) and suddenly, the winguts don't like it.

I dont think the Republicans or Democrats know how to pass a bill without some PORK connected to it. If there isn't some PORK inside of the health bill, there is probably a deal for PORK in some other bill to get the votes needed.
Whatever happened to our representatives voting on some bill because it benefits the over whelming majority of the all people in the country; not just one region, one state, one district or ???

this has been an issue since Andrew Jackson signed the bill to build the Cumberland Pike and the US started public works projects. if you read a little history, it was actually a problem in the athenian democracy.
