It just has to do with what some people think are acceptable, and they think has to do with the social situation they think that they are around. I don't know too many guys do it to pick up women. For example, the language which I was exposed to as a manufacturing engineer was a lot more "colorful" than of that in my current position as a design engineer. And guys will appreciate it if you pull them over and explain that you're not that comfortable around that language. | |

Combine Scratchoff and GQ's responses and that's what it boils down to OP. One, not every guy does that, and for the ones that do, I'm sure it's not some of their first option. If every woman in the world would respond to, "Hi how are you today?" or "What's your name?"and there were no women who actually though those crude remarks were amusing, then my guess is, almost nobody would use it.
But, as long as there are women who respond positively to it, there will be guys who take that route. So, take your billy club elsewhere, because you're beating up on the wrong people; it's your own gender who perpetuates this. Get mad at them and please stop generalizing us.

Sometimes being rude and crude can be funny though but even then it has its limits before it gets really old. | |

I've been here a lot longer (whatever that means or doesn't) but my persoanl experience has been that rude and crude is VERY rare.
I will dare to say this (haha...dare, dare) but I don't think the OP understands men very well or even maybe people. It's no excuse I've had the crude RARE email that's blatantly offensive and at times I have responded and stated my reasons. I get it, there's all types of people not JUST on the internet but everywhere wanting or looking for whatever they want and sometimes to an extent they don't realize they're being offensive. Most often, they're apologetic, sorry yes they should have read my profile....blah blah.
At least it's an awareness...don't know whether it makes them think, but then it's not my responsibility either.
What I DO think about and consider is the other person sending an email. It's an opportunity to communicate, maybe it's just an email, but you never know who and how you may inpact someone else's lives.
I know the OP is very vocal about her Christian beliefs...so to remind her of that...christian means "christ like" and Jesus was responsive to the woman at the well, who was sleeping with someone who wasn't her husband and it was Jesus who saved the life of the prostitute that was being stoned.
I'm sure she knows the stories, so if that's the example/model of how you and I are living our lives, can't you look past a personal perceived "affront" to your sensibilities and respond to them in a "christ like" manner.
I don't always either....but it IS something that's important to me and I do my best. | |

Like most things in life... that depends. There was a time in my life where I got burned a couple of times, and during my healing process I was quite rude to women. Basically became a womanizer. I went from "nice guy" to "bad boy" and suddenly had more women interested in me than ever before in my life. It seemed the worse I treated them, the more were beating down my door.
I'm sure I offended many many women along the way, but it got results. I've learned to not be "the nice guy", and I've learned to not be "the bad boy" - I'm somewhere in between. It's landed me fewer, but better quality life partner candidates. I don't want either of us to walk over the other - I'm looking for an equal partner. I'm fortunate enough to have landed a darn good fish... maybe she landed me... not really sure... but I digress.... | |

Me being the nice guy just ends up me being the doormat. I wish I would have learned that earlier in life. Instead the lightbulb in my head didn't go off till my 30's. I'm not the big a**hole you may have experienced yourself but it's a balance. It helps to have kind of a bad boy edge. Still have respect for women but I have to have confidence living in my own skin. | |
