| The Premier League Discussion Thread 2009/10 Posted: 8/8/2009 2:42:41 AM | I thought with the new Premier League season only one week away now... It would be interesting to see your predictions for 09/10 and what you think!
Top 4 1. 2. 3. 4.
Europa League 5. 6. 7.
Bottom 4 17. 18. 19. 20.
FA Cup Winner
Carling Cup Winner
Player of the season
Top Goalscorer
Signing of the season
First manager sacked
Most improved team
Under achievers
So who do you think will win The Premier League next season and why?
Will Man Utd do it again despite losing Ronaldo and Tevez during the summer? Can Liverpool challenge for the title again like last season and go one step further? Could Chelsea who have the best team on paper actually do the business on the pitch? Is Arsenal your pick despite selling 2 of their best players and having a young team?
Will Man City break into the Top 4 after having spent so much money on new players?
I guess we can use this topic just for discussing football as the season progresses along. We can talk about football on The UK forum in case someone says were not allowed!.

| The Premier League Discussion Thread 2009/10 Posted: 8/8/2009 3:23:53 AM | Top 4 1.Manchester United 2.Chelsea 3.Liverpool 4.Manchester City
Europa League 5.Arsenal 6.Villa 7.Everton
Bottom 4 17.Birmingham 18. 19.Hull 20.Burnley
FA Cup Winner Arsenal Carling Cup Winner Liverpool Player of the season Yuri Zhirkov Top Goalscorer Fernando Torres Signing of the season Yuri Zhirkov First manager sacked Paul Hart Most improved team Sunderland Under achievers Arsenal - no champions league football So who do you think will win The Premier League next season and why? Manchester United, they are the most settled team and have the experience and are the best team. Liverpool have got rid of their player of the year last year and replaced him with a crock and too much relies on Gerrard and Torres and a serious injury to either their season is over. Chelsea have to overcome a popular influence in Hiddink and get out of the blocks quickly with Ancelottii and won't be easy, a lot will depend on Zhirkov fitting in and settling quickly. Man City too many players to bed in and get form to challenge, they will start slowly and finish strongly, the complete opposite of the last two years. Will Man Utd do it again despite losing Ronaldo and Tevez during the summer? 3 titles in a row is always hard but yes I think they can do it, Tevez is a fans favourite and is like a Tasmanian devil but what did he actually do? You can't replace Ronaldo and I am glad that Fergie hasn't tried and adapted the team to its strengths, the sgn of a great manager. Can Liverpool challenge for the title again like last season and go one step further? They have the probably the most effective starting 11 and like last year will probably come out on top on the top 4 mini league but a sustained title challenge? No squad not strong enough but they have a better chance if they adopt the more attacking style adopted at the end of the last season. Could Chelsea who have the best team on paper actually do the business on the pitch? Best team on paper?? chelsea will always be hard to beat and are industrious and with the acquisition of Zhirkov have added something, will be interesting to see how his diamond midfield works in the frenetic pace of the premiership as the holding man has less time to find his pass. I think they will fall short...but till Champions league. Is Arsenal your pick despite selling 2 of their best players and having a young team? No, they were absolutely brilliant against Rangers in the Emirates cup and were excellent to watch. They have no height and no steel and will be bullied out of games and lack decent centre backs, holding midfielder and their strikers are injury prone. I want Arsenal to win the league and will watch them above anybody else but I fear another mediocre season and no Champions league football next year. Will Man City break into the Top 4 after having spent so much money on new players? In at the last, they will start slowly and overhaul Arsenal for it providing Hughes doesn't try and rotate and accommodate to many players.
I moaned an Op didn't ask a question yesterday, then today you Hams, How many questions?? I know never happy.

| The Premier League Discussion Thread 2009/10 Posted: 8/8/2009 4:36:44 AM | I'm a Liverpool fan and despite our better performance in the League last season i honestly think we will struggle this time out. I hope i'm wrong, but i seriously worry about some of the decisions and tactics Rafa makes at times. Stevie G will undoubtedly have another cracker though, fitness permitting.I hate to have to choose between chelski and Man U for the winners spot, but i feel The Blues have more flair and will score a lot more goals. Hull will finish bottom. They were unbelievable at the start of last season then suddenly couldn't win for toffee. The fact that nobody wants to sign for them doesn't help their cause. Phil Brown could quite easily be the first manager to go,although i'm going for Hughes, because if Man City don't get off to a good start the Money Men will get worried. Top 4 1.Chelsea 2.Man Utd 3.Arsenal 4.Liverpool
Europa League 5.Tottenham 6.Man City 7.Aston Villa
Bottom 4 17.Stoke 18.Wolves 19.Burnley 20.Hull
FA Cup Winner: Liverpool
Carling Cup Winner: Tottenham
Player of the season: Steven Gerrard
Top Goalscorer: Didier Drogba
Signing of the season: Glen Johnson
First manager sacked: Mark Hughes
Most improved team: Tottenham
Under achievers: Liverpool

Ok, I'll do the first one! Top 4 1. I'd like Arsenal but somehow think it's going to be Chelsea (grrrrrrr lol) 2.Man Utd 3. Liverpoooooool 4. Arsenal
Anyway, ignore Mr Misery Guts up there who decided to be rude, I enjoy your topics even if I'm not 100% sure what they are about sometimes, so ignore him.

Msg 5 Sorry about the number of questions in my OP Pud! I was going to include a poll too but thought that would have been a bit too much! I see you have an excellent knowledge of football from reading your post. I have to disagree with you though about Man Utd winning the title for a 4th year in a row!
Msg 6 Some interesting comments there Willis about Hull City especially in your post. I think that they will suffer with second season syndrome and have real problems. I also fancy Portsmouth to go down as they are selling all their best players like Crouch etc.
Msg 7 Thanks for your support Abbie and for having a go at the predictions I asked despite not knowing too much about football and being a fan of the Arsenal. I think your right about Chelsea winning the league this season!

| The Premier League Discussion Thread 2009/10 Posted: 8/8/2009 6:27:51 AM | Top 4 1. Chelsea 2. Arsenal 3. Liverpool 4. Man U
Europa League 5. Everton 6. Man City 7. Spurs
Bottom 4 17. Burnley 18. Portsmouth 19. Hull 20. Wolves
FA Cup Winner : Arsenal Carling Cup Winner : Man City Player of the season: Cesc Fabregas Top Goalscorer: Didier Drogba Signing of the season : First manager sacked: Phil Brown Most improved team : West Ham Under achievers: Aston Villa
So who do you think will win The Premier League next season and why? I think you could take the top 4 and throw them in any order: how will man u replace Ronaldo's goals? (67 in the last 2 seasons) Will Liverpool be able to field Gerrard and Torres on the field together... only 14 times last year (won 12, drew 2, lost 0) For all of arsenal's failings... of the last 24 league games they played.. amount lost...1 as for chelsea... if ancelotti goes to 4-4-2 as he played at milan.... I think they are in trouble...
Will Man City break into the Top 4 after having spent so much money on new players? No... but the infighing will be fun to watch.....

Europa League 5. Everton 6. Spuds 7. Man City
Bottom 4 17. Birmingham 18. Hull 19. Pompey 20. Burnley
FA Cup Winner : Chelsea

Top Goalscorer : Somebody even more annoying (with even girlier hair)
Signing of the season : Steve Finnan (Pompey)*
First manager sacked : Hart
Most improved team : Sunderland
Under achievers : Man City
Its going to be a long season for us (Pompey) We've sold anything that isnt nailed down and the replacements fill me with not a lot of confidence......But! They're my team, if i was a multi billionaire i'd buy the club myself....
Apart from us, it will be the usual suspects filling the usual roles. As for our impending relegation, well it happens, i'm sure i wont be throwing myself off a cliff anytime soon

| The Premier League Discussion Thread 2009/10 Posted: 8/8/2009 11:46:04 AM | I posted earlier on ,y views on premiership football which I love and follow avidly but I am a member of the barmy amber army and a Cambridge United fan and we have just had a terrible week which I thought you would share with you as I am close to tears or insanity or laughing hysterical not sure which.
Last year we got to the play off final and a lovely day out at Wembley which we lost. Our new chairman Mr Rolls didn't like our miracle manager Brabin who got us to the final and promptly sacked him to due to personal issues. Never mind we hired a new manager a Mr Ling, guess what he also can't get on with our new chairman and after 9 days he resigns 4 days before the new season. Chairman agrees to meet and answer the fans and he and his assistant resign too. Can't hire a new manager as apparently we now have no fooking money and need to do a health check first. No worries new season two days away now. Now how do you think we did against bloody Barrow, Yes Barrow they are a real team?
Well we were at home and on 54 minutes they went down too 10 men, an easy three points surely, we were the 3rd best team last season?
No we lost 2 bloody nil....I didn't go to the game and was listening in agony on the radio as I had to thankfully do some paper work for work on monday. So to all fans who are still preparing or their season has already started good luck and hope your smiling come May!

| The Premier League Discussion Thread 2009/10 Posted: 8/8/2009 2:22:57 PM | ^^ I am, but in my defense I have imbibed a shocking amount of red wine and very little food...
So I change my player of the season from Tevez, although I'd still love him to stick it to that git Ferguson, to Torres, because he's just sublime to watch.. And I do mean footballing skills and not because he's a pretty boy!!
|
| The Premier League Discussion Thread 2009/10 Posted: 8/9/2009 1:50:55 AM | And I do mean footballing skills and not because he's a pretty boy!!
I don't consider him to be a pretty boy Pants and quite unusual looking for a Spanish bloke!
I think Torres will have quite a lot of competition for Top goalscorer this season with the likes of Rooney,Drogba,Lampard,Gerrard and maybe Anelka and Jermaine Defoe.
I don't think its a certainty that he will finish the season as leading marksman thats all!
Newcastle are Second Division rubbish, Martin......try not to mention them in a thread that has nothing to do with them.
Msg14 So what are your predictions for next season then ZG? I know you won't be backing Liverpool to win the title!

So what are your predictions for next season then ZG? I know you won't be backing Liverpool to win the title!
I'll be hoping they don't win anything, Hams, but I reckon they have a good chance of winning it this season. Last season's 'near-miss' will spur them on, and the prospect of them failing to beat rubbish like Hull and Stoke again is unlikely. I know that they can't go on not winning the title, so I'm bracing myself for disappointment on that score come next May.
I don't think the Top Four will be the Big Four, and the Bottom Four will probably those as stated in MSG 4.
As for the cups, isn't it time a team from the 3rd Division surprised us all?

The bigger problem is that the team just don't seem to give a shite...
I'm not a mad keen fan, but I'll be sticking by them... Happy times will come again - it's just that we might be using flying cars to get to the ground by the time it happens...
