| Are professional pictures better? Posted: 8/8/2009 1:08:40 PM | Do you think that professional pictures make a better impression than "normal" pics? When I am ready to date again, I will post pictures, but I am wondering if it would be worth the effort to get some vanity shots made. | |

| Are professional pictures better? Posted: 8/8/2009 1:32:33 PM | | No, I'd stay away from professional shots. It makes it look like you're trying too hard, and its not a representation of your true self. Not saying you don't want to look good in your pictures, say maybe you were in a wedding and dressed in a tux or something, post that picture. But a studio thing, looking like a guy out of the Sears catalog? I'd avoid that at all costs, and I would think most people would do likewise. | |

| Are professional pictures better? Posted: 8/8/2009 1:43:45 PM | ^^^^^I totally agree!
Candid shots are WAY better. They are more natural and easier to get a better feel for who you are. Take your camera when you visit friends and have them get fun shots of you.

| Are professional pictures better? Posted: 8/8/2009 1:50:30 PM | If you mean in a sense of professional pictures like "glamour shots", I would say no...it's kind of like "false advertising" (I know this is geared towards women)...are you going to have a hair crew and makeup artist fix you up before you go out on a date!?!
My headshot was taken at a passport photo place...my full body shot was professional, but I did my hair amnd makeup the way I do it every day...
Candid photos are good too, as long as they are clear...although I often notice regular photos appear blurry/distorted...

| Are professional pictures better? Posted: 8/8/2009 2:11:12 PM | Ok. I don't really have any pics. I have one of myself and a buddy at a concert, but that's my only recent one.

Well, I'm definately not going to wear makeup. I was just thinking of hiring someone to take them, to make sure that I look decent. I don't want to look too stuffy, but I don't want to look like crap either.

| Are professional pictures better? Posted: 8/8/2009 2:28:53 PM | | I've tried it both ways. The pictures I have on my profile right now were taken by a professional photographer except for two, and now I get WAY more (qualified) mail in my inbox. The proof is in the pudding. Have nice, flattering pictures taken by a photographer. It's well worth the expense and effort. Don't do portraits though. They are boring. Have a photographer take you to a nice site for some outdoor shots. Most will take a hundred or more in one session. Than you pick from the best. | |

You have nice pictures, so I agree. I especially like the one where you're putting gas in the truck. You are an easy subject, though.

Do you think that professional pictures make a better impression than "normal" pics?
No, they make a false impression. It is not who the person really is. It's a pseudo image of the person. Be wary, be very wary.

| Are professional pictures better? Posted: 8/8/2009 3:08:08 PM | | I notice a good photograph. It doesn't take much to read about lighting and composition, which are critical in portraiture. If the idea is to advertise yourself in order to attract a mate, then it's well worth hiring a photographer who does portraits and have them take a few shots of you for your ad. The quality of the pictures will stand out, and you'll look your best that way. The glamor shots you get at the mall are typically garish and unappealing, which is why you don't see those being used in an media where looks matter. A photographer who does portraits and portfolio shots for professional models can produce a picture that is truly impressive, while keeping you looking quite natural and relaxed. That's why they get the big bucks. | |

| Are professional pictures better? Posted: 8/8/2009 4:20:00 PM | Tts best to have NATURAL looking photos done so no one is blindsided.....
I don't think there is anything wrong with having professional photos up ... Put your best foot forward!

| Are professional pictures better? Posted: 8/8/2009 4:41:17 PM | | Sometimes I see very attractive women post up only their modelling / photoshoot shots - it just screams SCAM!!!. Perhaps a mix of candid and pro shots would be best. | |

| Are professional pictures better? Posted: 8/8/2009 6:05:16 PM | I dunno I think I am going to get some professional ones done. I am not a photogenic person and I don't mean that in a negative way. I know I am decent looking and have personality too boot but my pictures......phewy. HAHA.
The problem is I think most of us, and if you say you don't then you are a liar, see a bad picture and then just look the other way a little too fast. So we get trapped in this endless game of being online trying to find someone. Well here is a hunch, if someones stats and profile interest you but their picture doesn't go get a cup of coffee with 'em and see them in real life. It will cost you a cup of coffee but hey if that is the person you are meant to be with WICKED. If not it is only a cup of joe.

| Are professional pictures better? Posted: 8/8/2009 6:23:54 PM | Yes.. I had mine made just for this site. Unfortunately, The freakin photographer held the camera upside down. I think I was ripped off! | |

| Are professional pictures better? Posted: 8/8/2009 6:52:15 PM | No, I think professional pictures look plain silly--but they aren't intended to be silly.
The hand placed reflectively on the chin, the striving to be casual by sitting on the floor or other poses just make me laugh.
As far as vanity shots are concerned--if you have them done, don't be surprised if the men whom you meet are surprised that you don't really look like that. From what I have read on forums, glamour shots are thumbs down.
Put a clear shot of your face and a body shot.

| Are professional pictures better? Posted: 8/8/2009 6:52:33 PM | | Professional pics are full of props and soft lighting....you are better off taking your own pics or have someone take em.....natural looking gives a better impression when you meet, than a vanity shot.....which you will never live up to after those pics are taken anyways... | |

| Are professional pictures better? Posted: 8/8/2009 7:55:01 PM | A skilled photographer will usually produce a more appealing photo , but it's not that difficult to take decent shots even by an amateur.
1. Preferrably, shoot under overcast conditions, not in the glaring sun.
2. If you shoot on a sunny day, position yourself between the camera and sun, and turn on the flash.
3. Sometimes, direct sunlight with a lot of reflected sun, ie. in the snowy mountains or a beach is not too bad, but it harsher than two methods described above. Unless you want to hide your face, don't shoot against the light source without a flash. There are too many dark pictures out there.
4. Finally, get close to the camera or crop the picture, so you are not a tiny speck in the photo.

| Are professional pictures better? Posted: 8/8/2009 8:08:49 PM | It depends on the kind of person you are looking for. Although if you wear a suit/tie to work, and post that as a pic, I think you should also post a pic of yourself in something more casual.
Personally, my lifestyle doesn't condone a suit/tie, so if that's all I see of a guy, then I will most likely pass him by. If the same guy has a suit/tie, and maybe pics with his hobbies, that might be a different story.
I think the best pics posted are ones of the person in the environment they are most comfortable in. That way the real "you" can come out!
Post good pics, ones that show the whole body, as well as just some of the face. Limit the pics of your toys, to just one or two, and don't be afraid to use up All 8 picture slots. The more pics the better.
Remember, a picture is worth 1,000 words! So use the best ones you have!

| Are professional pictures better? Posted: 8/8/2009 11:39:19 PM | | If anything i'd find it more intimidating, cause to me it projects the image that they think they're all that or something. So not to sound like a wuss or anything but realistically I know for me it'd probably turn me off of trying to contact. | |

| Are professional pictures better? Posted: 8/9/2009 11:03:13 AM | Only if you are having ALL the good parts "air brushed".........
OT........There are professional pictures, and then there ARE professional pictures, and most of us know the difference......
I see no reason not to share both personal and professional ones, just as long as both show you as you truly are with looks, dress, and all that other stuff you put on, or take off, for the pics......
Nothing will make one wonder more than seeing some professional shots, that make your normal ones look like you have aged 10 years, gained 20 pounds, and lost your job and money, and can not afford to dress well anymore.
The key here is to present yourself the way you truly are, and make it so when you meet, you are happy and not disappointed.
Just my opinion........

| Are professional pictures better? Posted: 8/15/2009 7:09:16 PM | | Some professional pics are good, but I prefer to see candid pics. Seeing pictures of you enjoying the same things I do will definately peak my interest. | |
|
| Are professional pictures better? Posted: 8/15/2009 9:21:06 PM | | Pro pics can be misleading a little. Unless you dress up / make up / whatever like all the time... I'd rather see of a pic of you in the here and now - what you would look like if I bumped into you on the street - not after you've spent two hours in front of a "make up artist." | |
