Should I go out with a girl 16 years younger?
Posted: 8/10/2009 3:36:34 PM
I met a cute girl at a club on Friday night. She is 23, I am 39. I told her that I was too old for her, what do you think? We have spoken on the phone a couple of times since, should I leave it at that or give her a chance? She seems like a really nice girl, we have great conversation and she lives close to me.

Find woman your own age. This one is almost young enough to be your daughter.

If you don't have a problem with it, then what IS the problem? I figure if both of you are ok with it, then go for it. Yeah, you're gonna get some raised eyebrows but how you two handle that will depend on how strong of a relationship you create. Keep in mind that the age difference WILL bring other issues with it. She's 23... meaning she's not lived as much life as you have. She may not be as responsible. She may be a little more flighty. You may end up finding you don't have as much in common as you thought or that you want different things in life. These aren't probabilities.. just possibilities and things to keep in mind.

How I see it. It is simple you ask and it is her call. We have no right to do someone elses thinking. I figure it is my job to do the asking when a gal seem friendly and it is her job to accept or not.

well, you call her a "girl" so ..proceed with caution. She will probably dump you old azz for someone younger unless you have plenty of money honey, or the girl begins to bore the crap out of you first..

By the way, I see what you are trying to do...but, the other thread is about a 30 year old MAN and a 46 y/o woman.

On a forum like this, its impossible to know all the details to make an accurate assessment, however ..for most purposes, people would consider a 23yr old an adult. She's old enough to make her own decisions. What you have to consider is: do you think you both have enough in common to make a relationship work?... (if thats what your truly after?)

Certain sections of society will probably look down upon you for courting a girl that much younger than you. Nothing you can do about that. (it's within the realm of possibility that you could end up having an entirely incredible healthy relationship with her - and those judgemental people would STILL look down upon you).

Live your life for yourself. Make the best decisions you can.

Hmmmmmmmmm ok. I guess the question is, at what point does the difference in age become moot.

66 - 50 sure
46 - 30 ok
39 - 23 hmmmmmmmmm
18 - 34?????

They are all adults in each instance. Should it be any different if the older person is male or female?

You're a mountain biker, so you wear baggy pants instead of spandex and you fall at least five times each time you ride and end up full of mud. Dude, get with the program, become a roady.

Oh, this was about a younger chic. Never mind. What's the issue? She is legal. She likes you. So who the fvck cares. A woman asked the same question here and everyone said go foooorr it.

Okay back to cycling, did you know about the Leadville 100?

You see if its a woman its ok but if its a man its not.
What a double standard and a pile of crap.

Anything more or less then about five years is to far. Just my opin.

Too young. Girls that age tend to play games and pretty immature. I have only met one girl that was 24 was mature for her age, most just act like it. You should date women at least 28.

I wouldn't. Think about 10 or 20 years time - what will you be talking about? Will you both still want the same things? How will you feel being the same age as her Dad?

But, the age gap thing works for a lot of folk, it seems.

No, T R, you should not. When will you learn that going out with anybody but me will only lead to heartbreak? How many more undeserving women are you going to waste your good looks charm on before you realize they were only meant for me?

You can hang my curtains anytime, baby.

OP - first of all, she's not a "girl". She's a woman! Gosh, I hate it when men refer to women as "girls". If you've got to ask, then you need to re-think things. At the age of 39, you shouldn't have to be asking "is it ok". BTW - it's not like you're getting married on the first date (if you do go out).

Wow that Leadville 100 sounds like something else. I usually do around 14 miles a day, trails instead of road. LOL There's so much in the way of trails around here it's great, and we have I think the largest bike park in Alberta now, with the new stuff that's been added.
I try to not fall TOO much, can usually get my feet released in time...

usually! Getting muddy is half the fun!

Elsbethlett:
You've been on this site for a hell of a long time without any dates at all. If some chick is finally showing some interest in you, if I were you, I'd go for it. I mean jeeze..you could DIE tomorrow, you know? Who cares what anyone thinks? Just make damn sure you double bag it....cuz that age is REALLLLLLLLY able to get pregnant easily, and she might be lookin for a sugar daddy.

Hey. Just for the record, OP is an equal opportunity employer. He's been hitting on me for years. I'm 15+ years older. :) Unfortunately, I'm not into spandex and bicycle helmets. And he's not tall enough to hang curtain rods without a ladder........

LOL well I HAVE been here for a while, hmmmm since 2006 I think, it hasn't all been futile. Met about 15 people from here, ended up in a torrid 8 month relationship that ended up flaming out (the star that burns the brightest, also burns the shortest) Since I've been back, I've just been taking it easy, chilling here and there with friends.

You KNOW you make me weak!

Just kinda putting it out there to see how the responses are when the genders are flipped...

Depends what you're looking for. If you're not looking to "just date", then no. If you're cool about situations where there's a 99% chance that it's only going to be a casual relationship, then yeah, sure. Just make sure you don't make things blow up emotionally into something too grand. Take things slow... emotionally that is.

My last gf was 24 and I was 36. What's another year?

Well, Olympic year that is.

A person who is 23 is old enough to make up their minds when it comes to the relationship they want to be in.
