Venting on Facebook!

I'm amazed at what some people post on Facebook, but this takes the biscuit!

In tech terms, it's called a cascading failure.

A woman in Britain being called "Lindsay" made a big one this week, and it cost her her job.

First, she came home after a hard day and, rather than complaining to the cat, decided to do it on the web.

Lindsay opened up her Facebook account and posted a fairly vulgar description of her boss.

"OMG, I HATE MY JOB!" Lindsay wrote. "My boss is a total pervvy wanker always making me do s--- stuff." Mistake No. 2.

Mistake No. 3. was forgetting that her boss was one of her Facebook friends, and thus had access to all of her posted comments.

Mistake No. 4 was firing this broadside two weeks before the end of a six-month trial period.

Five hours after Lindsay posted her lament, her boss replied.

"I guess you forgot about adding me on here?" his post began.

Then he proceeded to rip her straight back.

"That `s--- stuff' is called your `job', you know, what I pay you to do? But the fact that you seem able to f--- up the simplest of tasks might contribute to how you feel about it."

Angry boss then points out that Lindsay is a couple of weeks shy of the end of her trial period and delivers the coup de grĂ¢ce.

"Don't bother coming in tomorrow. I'll pop your P45 (pink slip) in the post, and you can come in whenever you like to pick up any stuff you've left here. And, yes, I'm serious."

which proves my point that facebook and sites just like it are the hair traps of humanity and for all the people stupid enough to get through life with only the benefits of 20-20 hindsight.

That ungreatful employee got what she deserved. She is just a miserable person and she wants everyone to feel her pain. Misery loves company. She just didn't want the boss of the company to feel her pain. She signed up to do the job...suck it up and shut up.

It never ceases to amaze me what people post on Facebook.

She certainly deserved to be fired IMO.

I don't air my dirty laundry on facebook. I prefer to use it to stay in tune with my friends and family. I keep it positive and light. When i see my kids and some of the younger crowd airing their personal crap on there it make them look immature and I've told them that.

Will say that for those who might want a job or new employment of some sort what is on Facebook can be injurious to your search.

I wouldn't say just what is on Facebook. I would expand that to say what is on the World Wide Web in general can be injurious to your search.

Owned.

Apparently the boss is correct and the woman is not exactly the sharpest tool in the shed.
People who go on Facebook and rant do look imature, and slightly nuts.

Should stupid people be fired?

IMO - Yes

Complaining is one thing, but complaining about people complaining takes it to a whole new level.

Well, that was pretty stupid, and I don't blame the boss for firing them for showing disrespect, however I might want to refer back to the old rule that you don't mix business with friends and family. That is a recipe for disaster... What kind of suck up would want their boss on your facebook as a friend?...As an intelligient person I would already know that I would never be able to "vent " about work if that happened...perhaps the boss should not have employees on his facebook and vice versa...

However I do believe that everybody needs to vent once in a while and it doesn't make a person stupid just because they vented...There is always 2 sides to a story. One person may have frustrations on one end and another my have frustrations on the other end...You really don't know the entire story here...

I find it very REFRESHING when my friends can be themselves on my facebook and write whatever they want to...It isn' t a "tense" environment for me...If my friends write something bizairre I laugh and find the humor in it..etc...or I write them a letter to see if I can lend an ear if I think something serious is going on...that's what freinds do...they are supportive of one another...It isn't the office or the local social club and everybody needs to have a place they can let their hair down and be themselves....I personally LOVE it when my friends feel comfortable enough to be themselves....Mind I realize this person made a dumb mistake, but they were just venting and it harmed them and not you...Everybody has a right to make their own mistakes...would you prefer that they go "postal"? It is good to vent and get stuff out of your system...but that person really made big mistake...

(and by the way kids on facebook are supposed to be immature...they got a lot to deal with growing up these days...I laugh at the stuff my neice posts..it's crazy and funny...)

That sucks the perverted employer fired her, but he's the boss. Kinda like Abercrombie only hiring attractive people despite some of them being mentally deficient. Where's your denim? Uhh what's a denim. Pervert = 1, Facebook venter = 0

Her IQ must be SO incredibly low as to not realize that posting about her boss would bite her a$$ later.

I'd love to be able to say, "I can't believe people can be that stupid", but I can't bring myself to do so. I know they can be that stupid.

I thought the same thing...Bryd...the choice of words there "pervvy wanker" was an interesting choice of words used by the employee that got fired....a story ALWAYS has 2 sides...we didn't hear the reasons why she called him pervvy wanker...

I'm always amazed at what people post on facebook and other social networks, I keep my light and funny, if I want to talk serious I'll phone a friend to vent. This woman wasn't too bright and it cost her a job, a lesson that our actions have conseqences.

I realise that the woman called her boss "pervvy" but whether or not he was is irrelevant. Lets not forget the fact that she had posted that comment where ALL her "friends" on Facebook can see it. I don't know about you but I don't add my work boss on my friend's list. I don't even add classmates to my friend's list, only people I really like.

I mean, its not the fact that she's stupid for venting, its more the fact that she was venting out her opinions in a fairly public place. At least she could've used the private message option, and vented to her friends that way.

Sorry guys there's no dirty little secrets there. I saw the whole post and the boss actually stated in his reply that she had called him a perv, but had neglected to notice that he was gay!!!

Sorry she deserved what she got.

I make sure like someone else said that what I post is 98% about my social life and if I do post about work it's always positive (I like my job a lot so that's not difficult).

My rule of thumb is not to post anything that I wouldn't be prepared to say out loud to anyone.

No one has mentioned that her boss's behavior was no better than hers.

Yes, she was unprofessional. But evidently her boss was not concerned with unprofessionalism, as he was just as inappropriate as she was.

He should not have posted a reply. He turned this into a power play instead of a simple dismissal for gross unprofessionalism.

I'm curious what his boss thought of his reply post. How funny it would be if he was disciplined for his behavior!

I use Facebook, but I post vaguely and don't complain. A "going out for a night on the town!" status is about as controversial as I get.

The funniest thing I've ever seen was a woman whose status was.

"Women beware of that she-wolf ***** *****. She is a skank ho that will f*ck your husband like she did to mine last night!"

After people started commenting, she also wrote that she had caught her husband literally in bed with the woman, and that they had slept together with the other woman's children in the same room. Every single detail....

4 days later her status was "**** brought me flowers and chocolates today, I am blessed with the best hubby in the whole wide world! I love you ****!"

It boggles the mind....

Ok, admittedly she was an idiot for posting all that when her boss would be able to see it. This is just me but there's no way I'd ever have a manager or superior at my job added as a friend on Facebook (as far as I'm concerned that's what LinkedIn is for).

However to look at the glass half full, beyond all that she didn't say anything that wouldn't be said amongst her own friends in a public forum, so I don't see the harm in her venting that way. Her only mistake again was that it was in a place where her boss was going to see it.

Agree with saharam ~ both were ignorant in my personal/professional opinion. Two wrongs don't make a right! Keep the banter on FB light hearted. My boss noticed that I baked brownies last weekend ~ and so, had the opportunity to enjoy them come Monday morning.
