| Favourites, Fans & Last 5 Forum Posts being removed from profiles Posted: 8/22/2009 12:18:46 PM | Earlier there was a thread going about this, (and about the missing 'favorites' count, which I don't give a hoot about), and now the thread is gone. I'm wondering if it came to any conclusions? Are the "last 5 forum posts" just not going to come back, and any discussion is now 'forbidden'?
Thank you | |

| last 5 forum posts.. gone. Posted: 8/22/2009 12:28:24 PM | I'm sad to see the last 5 forum posts gone! When looking at other people's profiles, I always scrolled down to see if they posted on the forum and what they had to say. It helped me gauge what kind of person they are.
'Tis a shame. At least let us have the option of showing this on our profiles; don't eliminate it completely.

Not necessarily , but the implication is: Case closed.
I suppose one's motivation to post on the subject is likely tied to whether or not they operate under "futile" .

| last 5 forum posts.. gone. Posted: 8/22/2009 12:38:17 PM | The previous thread had grown to 8 pages, becoming more of a "I'm happy" vs "I'm not happy" discussion thread. Discussion and debate don't belong in a Help section, therefore the thread was deleted.
Technically, this is a redundant topic, so don't expect this thread to stick around very long either. :(
One can still see if someone has posted on the forums.... copy their username from their profile, paste it into the forum's Search box, then set the dropdown to Username.

| last 5 forum posts.. gone. Posted: 8/22/2009 12:51:25 PM | It would be fairly easy to create an on/off, or show/do not show your last five postings in the profile section.
In fact, one could do that for the favorites list as well, and allow the profile owner to decide, just like we do for who can contact us, and if we want others to know that we viewed their profile or not.
I think they will get to that point to have more options that we can choose and decide upon, which only makes sense.......just like hiding ones profile when once decides to do that.
Just my opinion.......

| last 5 forum posts.. gone. Posted: 8/22/2009 1:21:16 PM | I found it an easy and convenient way to check the status of threads I posted on. I didn't have to log into the forums to do so. I also liked it when I was bored and could click on some of my favorites' profiles to see where they were posting (some people get all the juicy threads).
For all the lightweights who complained of the posts showing, the trick was just to make sure first sentence reflected something you were okay with the general POF population seeing. There were a number of favs that used to follow my posts without logging into the forums. Now they will need to log in to see the forums as will I.
It will be missed. | |

I suppose the forums will go "poof" next.

| last 5 forum posts.. gone. Posted: 8/22/2009 1:51:33 PM | I'm just glad this site is totally free still as not alot of others are. The last 5 comments were ok I guess but now maybe more people will actually contact each other or now maybe more people will actually use the forums.
Either or it would be nice to know why alot of times somebody I have added as a favorite keeps getting kicked off that list and I have to re add them.

| last 5 forum posts.. gone. Posted: 8/22/2009 2:04:14 PM | | I missed the earlier thread....but....how do we know this isnt just some server maintenance or a storage issue and these features will return when the work is completed. Usually there would be an announcement as there was when the IM feature was disabled, advising everyone. Perhaps the data maxed out some of the functionality and they brought it down while they optimized the service. Would be nice to know. | |

| last 5 forum posts.. gone. Posted: 8/22/2009 6:16:37 PM | ive been here *gasp* forever.. Ha! ...been in my favorites list forever (still there)
i dont like the last 5 not showing I'm quite okay with this, there were flaws... the block quote thingy and the mangling of HTML, etc.
A simple link to posting history would be kick-ass though, methinks.
But, the same thing can be acomplished from a forum search (third item down from the top in the drop-down search menu)
and the favorites thing, well, it was at times a barometer of popularity, activity, pof socializing, and pc addiction! LOL....
The overwhelming commonality of "complaints" is that most people couldn't/can't think beyond there own preconception of what it means to them.
Good riddance to the fave "counts", ...it appealed to too many peoples myopic-ness in both practice, and perception..
The practice remains, the misperceptions are moot.
Makes sense if you think about it.
Done deal folks, show's over, move along... yadda yadda yadda. (Those with a futility fetish, ...please ignore).

i see the testimonials list is still here......how did that survive the big c, and why?
Probably because it's such a dissimilar feature. "Testimonials (part of the favorites feature) is and always has been entirely voluntary at both the author-end, and the profile-end.
Apples and ....box-girder bridges.

is anyone going to explain why these changes were made or don't us minnows matter to the big fish? lol

A simple link to posting history would be kick-ass though, methinks. Before this feature change I'd seen a couple of profiles where the user said something to effect "if you want to learn more about me see what I say in the forums" and they posted the URL to their forum history (obtained by clicking "History" from any of their posts).
As URL's to PlentyOfFish pages are permitted in our profiles this would be an option for users to consider.

| last 5 forum posts.. gone. Posted: 8/22/2009 7:48:01 PM | Scrolling through the posts of those on my favorites' list saved me the effort and time involved in checking out each forum. When I saw a thread that interested me I would contribute a comment.
I truly do not understand why the "last 5 forum posts" was removed. I agree that an option would be to have a way to allow a person to choose whether or not they want to show those posts instead of taking those posts away completely.
I do appreciate the fact that this is still a free site, and have enjoyed the forums immensely.

Make your own favorites/posting history folder on your browser.
Even less effort, more ....big.

| last 5 forum posts.. gone. Posted: 8/22/2009 9:17:05 PM | So the mods can take the time to delete the thread, or clean the thread. But they can not take the time to inform their customer base?
Also, to the poster mentioning that the site is free. Technically yes, 100% no. Not sure how much being a "gold dot" is but I am sure it is at least .1%.
99.9% free | |
