well....after meeting a few of our wonderful forumites on the weekend, and observing them in various states of sobriety lol it got me thinking....we sort of form an idea of someone in our heads from what we see on here (well i do) and this weekend was a great time to see how accurate i was :) and suprisingly i wasnt too far off the mark, one of these people i have been conversing with for quite some time, and what i was expecting was what i saw....all in a good way of course!!! i wont spill any names lol but these people know who they are hehe....just wondering if anyone else has formed a mental image and idea of what someone would be like from the forums and emails and then met them.....how did it hold out against real life???

I fully expect most forumites I meet to be total whackjobs, and I am rarely disappointed. I've met a few now...some are exactly what you expect, some surprise you in various ways....all great people. (They paid me to say that.)

One thing I have noticed...it is funny hearing someone speak, after "hearing" them on here over time. A bit like the first time those from the baby-boomers and X-gen age brackets might have heard one of their long time favourite comic strips turned into a movie or TV cartoon....a "speakie"... and having to get used to the allocated voice as opposed to the one you've been hearing in your head. The first time I heard Garfield "speak", it just wasn't what I'd expected. I think Bill Murray did the voice?? Anyway, I caught up with a few forumites over the weekend and a certain chick from Perth has apparently experienced a bit of Garfield Effect...she's just told me that she expected me to have a deeper voice whereas I sound quite girlish. I think the producers messed up...it was actually meant to be Stevie Nicks doing my voice, but I think due to budget cuts they used Paris Hilton.

Nice glasses Deej.

I expected you all to have at least self combusted . As 'he' says , the three of you together .... er , what can I say that won't be taken awry alright ? .. the three of you together as an idea before the reality didn't phase me at all at all . And I'm glad that the bonfire and general good feelings were there . Love this new fashion statement of green specs ..... does it mean some subversive thing or just innate wackiness . Love from J&K Enterprises , Perth .

I have learned from bitter experience to never presume people will be any thing in particular until you have met them....having expectations will bite you in the ass every time.

I mean, I went to a bonfire expecting to meet a bunch of totally normal singles like myself and all I found was a bunch of twots in fluoro green glasses.

They look best on me but..............

Well I was mainly on track re my perceptions on peoples soul/personalities...
although.. changed degrees of those perceptions.. That's on the people who post/talk about themselves abit..
There were a few.. That hardly post anything.. or not much.. about them.
So I didn't really.. know them to have a perception about.
re looks.. well im no good with size perceptions..
so ...yes on that.. some were alot smaller than i thought..
My first thought.. was wowe they all look so different in clothes...
(except for the naked guy)..

Well I actually thought...soulmate...is far more entertaining...in real life than online..
she still looks like crap though.. but she uses far less dots..
she was alot bigger than her pic ..

About 3-4 surprised me slightly..
Like the guy with hair.. I was amazed to find it was actually....
a really good combover.. and you could'nt tell he was bald at all..

Another guy.. looked way better in person than his pic.. and wayyy...
younger than his age.. He had a better vibe in real life also... and slightly thinner..
(I think he needs a new pic).. cause the one he has up isnt doing him justice..

A guy.. showed more of his heart/soul.. in convo.. than he had online..
so I got a different perspective..(and I suspect for future occassions..should ... be in charge of music and the music system setup)

lult.. well..with the crossed eyes.. I wasn't sure who she was ever talking too.
Also alot thinner.. than expected...
and alot better looking in real life than in pics..

I would of liked to of met Elsee... but they did'nt turn up...
I think they would of been...fun to poke in the ribs....

of course the hostess was completely perfect.. beautiful.. inside and out.. and a great hostess...
although she had 1 flaw... .. apparently she inherited her cd collection from her great..great grandparents.....
And if I ever hear... the bert and patty christmas album 1 more time.. Ill scream...
I think we should all chip in .. and buy her a NEW CD.. something from this century..perhaps?
and IN noway..should she be let loose in a cd shop or make a selection by herself...

peace

Did meet up with some other forum addicts the other nite. Some even came from interstate !!!! Which was a good thing as the qld lot are a bit odd. All seem to suffer from the same eye disorder due to posting to much. Apparently the only solution is to wear some hidious green glasses with a coke bottle lens in them. Hopefully this disorder is not contagious and I wont have to get some.
Other than that they seemed quite normal, well as normal as anyone else on here.

Ahh yes, moving from the second dimension to the third dimension is always an interesting experiment. I've also found that forum folk are generally very much the same as I expected them to be (whackjobs is the preferred term...apparently) . This is probably because after posting and msning for a while peoples thin veil of normalcy starts to slip, exposing an almost real human being.

Just simply dating on the other hand is a completely different experiment: You see someones profile pic and go "Oh my god! they're hot...I have to meet them...Right now! So after tricking them into giving you their mobile number and exchanging all of 2 text messages you head out to meet them in the 'third dimension'. This is where the experiment goes horribly wrong because you soon discover that your date is completely devoid of a third dimension along with any shred of intelligence, or personality. So you spend an awkward hour attempting to wash away a few million years of evolution with copious amounts of alcohol so as you can have a conversation with them at their level "Ug ug ug" ..."Grunt grunt."

Yep the forum folk are cool, probably cos to meet them you have to skip the Third dimension and go straight to the forth, which is populated with evil succubi armed with pudding bowls and hair dressing scissors, weird Hilly monsters that can kill a man with a single blow of their tongue and freaky aliens with ex-ray vision glasses...Hell I even saw John Cleese's doppelganger at the last get together, complete with the best of British humour and a fine repertoire of silly walks. There are even the occasional nauseating face-sucking POF success couples.

One thing I have noticed...it is funny hearing someone speak, after "hearing" them on here over time.

Yeah I’ve noticed that too, I’ve also noticed that after meeting someone a few times I start to hear their voice while I’m reading their posts and msn messages, which was fun at first but it’s kind of disturbing now cos they’ve started arguing with the other voices in my head.

Welcome to the forth dimension OP...you do realise there's no escape from this LULT...I mean CULT.

I agree with Jules...going from 2D to 3D can be an interesting shift in perception...but far less weird after knowing someone from the forum first. And yet, possibly more nerve-wracking too because there are expectations, unlike meeting a total stranger randomly. I think there were only 4 I hadn't already met ...OP you were exactly as I expected, and Bucky too. LULT's pics just don't reveal how stunning she really is, but her profile is all true... she does wee on people's toast. Breakfast time has been hell around here for the last few days....but she's on a plane now and no longer my problem.

Well I actually thought...soulmate...is far more entertaining...in real life than online..
Absolutely. A bit like expecting a soft breeze and getting a tornado that is sheer magnificence to watch...beautifully forthright, and so perceptive it's scary. I think a few of the guys took shelter under tables...seeking...peace...
And if I ever hear... the bert and patty christmas album 1 more time.. Ill scream...
Spoil sport.

...and the rest of 'em I've met so often that I'm bored with them now and need to trade them in on newer models.

Apparently the only solution is to wear some hidious green glasses with a coke bottle lens in them.
Ideal hangover hiders actually. Everything looks blurred and full of rainbows through those glasses...woulda been handy the night before when DH1 did the nude run...saw rather more of him than I expected.

Having recently graced several forumites with my presence, in 3D living colour, I can now report here that they all seemed appropriately awestruck by my wit and beauty, and expressed an adequate appreciation of the magnitude of my wonderfulness. They will possibly never be the same for having met me. Understandably.

But... actually, the people that I recently met were those who I had come to 'know' a little from the forum here. They were all somewhat unlike my preconceived notions of them. For instance, what I 'expected' was that a few of the people I met would be able to fly, or at least hover one inch off the ground. You see, I had come to admire them so much and my absolute adoration of these people had me picturing them as sort of super-human celebrities. I felt like a mere groupie, and I intended to throw my undies at all of them to show my appreciation for their greatness.

So... I was quite nervous that I 'wouldn't be good enough' for them. Upon meeting them I found out that they were possibly the most warm, friendly, open, generous and accepting people I have ever met and so I managed to keep my undies on the whole time I was there. They were as intelligent, witty, gorgeous and wonderful as I expected, but 'real' people all the same. I did poke them all several times to check and they were surprisingly normal humans. All except one... one person that I felt sad not to have had the opportunity to meet 'in real life' during my visit, and therefore will remain a figment of my over-active imagination, and who I still believe can fly, walk on water, or at the very least glows in the dark.

Anyway, the one major fault I found with everyone I so recently met is that they all live too far away from me. Selfish b@stards!

But imagine the pressure of trying to live up to being a deity.. god.. ?
I would of liked you to of met them also.. so you could go home and put your mind at rest...
yes I would of liked to meet elsie also... not because im impressed with the size of their organ..(brain)... but because i'm actually a closet thrill seeker... and have fun.. poking sticks at crabs.. (only well equipped..strong crabs.. though.. not helpless ..clawless innocent crabs,,)
I like seeing them ..bite and snap... and hang onto the stick.. it's quite fun..
until they turn around and bite me on the bum.. then.. I limp off ..

and wonder why I haven't learnt to not poke sticks at crabs yet.. then spend the next week trying to pull the claw off my bum..

Julian... your new pic is absouletely stunning... It reminds me of the front cover.. of pavlovs dog.. For Whom The Bell Tolls..

The eminent French oceanographer and marine biologist Mons. Gluteous Derriere posteriorlated, as far back as 1956 that Crabs are actually an advanced life-form,

well his earlier research was more valid.. but he was discredited.. in 1957.... when they found his body clutching an opimum pipe.. with the words scratched on the wall next to his body.. I was wrong... crabs are not GODS nor demi gods..
some however are genuises..although his point, about them possibly from an alternate dimension/universe..opened paths to metapyschics...

I happen to know alot about crabs....In fact. my thesis.. is renown...ha ha ha
(I could prove this.. but I don't have the need nor heart to crack open a crab in public and reveal whats inside.. (that's private)
except for a crab itself.. who knows ...the experience..
IT depends on the size of the stick for a start... because crabs cannot.. resist hugs/affection... except.. because of the bloody claws.. not many are brave enough to try...
So you need an extended big/strong stick.. (beyound bum reach.. ) once he has latched on.. with both claws.. you can then tickle his tender underside....
and for novelty purposes.. you also have a crab on a stick.. because tenaciously.. they can cling to thoughts/amibitions.. things.. etc.. they can even hang on so long.. if the claw breaks off.. they can grow another 1...

Though it's true that I would pay good money to see a levitating phosphorescent crab, I can't complain about that exhibit being closed for repairs during my recent trip to the zoo. Not when I knew full well that it was 99% likely to be closed anyway, and I still got to see chickens, ducks, geese, sheep, mini-pigs, a horse... and plenty of lovely fishies.

Besides, I'm scared of claws and all this talk of crabs is making me itch somethin' chronic.

Well, I made it back in one piece. Thanks to the hostess with the mostess for a brilliant shindig.

Absolutely. A bit like expecting a soft breeze and getting a tornado . . .

Haha . . yeah . . and I now understand why they used to name cyclones after women. We should go back to that. (kidding)

. . how did it hold out against real life???

I agree with the 2D to 3D thing and it seems my preconceived impressions were either bang on correct or completely wrong . . no middle ground. I'd met some of these forum folks before and the only ones that surprised me were the cyclone lady and the scholarly gentleman. Nothing bad in either case, mind you . . quite the opposite . . just not what I'd imagined. And yet, for all that, everyone seemed to fit in really well . . like they'd all known each other for years.
And there must be some cyber synchronicity going on somewhere because three of these gals ended up wearing pretty much the same outfit . . even without the green glasses.

I reckon the real hero was the cyclone lady's driver. He must be something to put up with all these unknown whackjobs and still keep a smile on his face.
We missed out on the semi-pornographic paper mache peace offerings to the fire gods this year but there was naked fire dancing, so the tradition is becoming well established. Just how a certain person finds naked dancing OK and yet can't stand the sight of naked feet escapes me a bit. Maybe she was distracted . .

Well he is a very sweet sensitive soul.. very much in touch with his femine side.. being raised by 3 older sisters and his mum.. he loves woman.. and is in noway a macho..ego.. hes precious..
Actually I was quite proud of you all... everytime I asked.. he said everyone was very friendly ..including him..
In actual fact.. he.. is 1 of those around here..(home) who tell me to get off the net and spend time with real people.... I tell them..they are real people.. just... interacting.. on levels ..not including a body... (ie in chat a little box on a screen.. but yet I can absorb their essence/soul)... He has actually spoken on mic to .. someone I used to voice chat with from usa..
In fact I think *R*.. (seeing it through his eyes.. ) was surprised.. we had some concept.. knowledge of each other.. not meeting complete strangers..
I think he was also.. impressed with the quality of people....
He did want to take off his clothes and run around naked.. (I blame the naked dudes influence there) ,, but only if someone rubbed coal all over him.. (apparently its a PNG ..thing.... he and his ex are both teachers (he is a high school/retired science) and taught in PNG.. africa.. (1 daughter was born in africa)... his ex has just accepted a contract to teach women in the middle east)
Hes very interesting.. he also felt quite comfy.. (cause I filled him in on all of you... heck we had ..3.5 hours to fill on the way up)..... and he also used to.. lived in brissy..

actually *G*.. for awhile we could'nt find his scientific american mag.. borrowed from the library.. we were going to ask if you wanted to call in on your way home.. have a beer.. and *R* wanted to offer you a bed for the night...
anyhoo we found it.. and I fell asleep.. (cyclone wore her little self out)... and forgot to extend his offer.. regardless..of the mag...
glad you got home ok..
and *G*... I had to show you.. all.. my' out there' side.. cause i like to be fair.. and I heard a rumour I was a gentle soul.. which I am.. but you guys get to see my soul on here...forums... out there>>>>>>> they get to see warrior..tough chick.. who.. likes to laugh and protect the innocent... balanced view?.. Im usually quite quiet though.. or rather deep... 1 on 1.. soul to soul...(ie not a smart arse..) not that you would get a word in..
and I really enjoyed talking to you *G*... and yes I got a different perspective of you and Julian.. and Hilly.... only cause I found you all abit intimidating on forums.. like your intellectuals... didn't think you would even want to talk to me...
.... all...very nice people.. but I was drinking...ha ha ha..

It is hard to believe it has been a week, I know that it was wonderful night but despite drinking little and rarely, I don’t really remember much about it. I do recall winding my way through dark country roads which on a motorcycle always amount to an endless series of unforgiving moments and then suddenly I found myself sitting on the hostess’s patio. My life had not suddenly flashed before my eyes, I knew that I was not in Elysium which is widely known to have sunshine all the time, green fields, winding roads and wind that will only carry the sound of a Harley-Davidson, but there I was trapped in a vortex of pure joy. Sitting on my left as large as life was the fabulous Miss Hilly while on my right was the delectable Love You long Time, I thought ‘oh god what has I done”, for this must surely be heaven. I did on occasion, catch a glimpse of our consummate hostess who thankfully was just passing by, given my situation at the time, if she had paused to embrace me, I would no doubt have end up with a death certificate that simply said “cause of death: overdose, excruciatingly delicious delight”.
There was apparently an entertaining fire dance performed on more than one occasion that I thankfully missed completely though I was impressed by the courage and persistence of that “mature age” couple who no doubt felt that their oxygen tanks were incompatible with a bonfire and so spent the entire evening talking turns giving each other mouth to mouth resuscitation in what can only have been a desperate struggle to stay alive.
I also recall, later in the evening, or was it the early hours of the morning, seeing upon the other side of the table a nanna gesticulating wildly whilst disclosing more information about the quality and quantity of her personal life than I for one ever needed to know or that any gentleman could possible ever recall. Cyclone lady is no doubt apt descriptor, but is not the maelstrom of ebullience that surrounds her that makes it so, but rather the gentile calm in her eyes that enchants you , delights you and reminds you that even the briefest of acquaintances can end up being counted among the great treasures of life.
A truly wonderful night

Ohh My.... I don't think I can recall, exactly what that info was.. I think I got occassional flasbacks... ..or rather glimpses.. of things said... was it that bad?..,..(i dont get out much..ha ha ha)...........hangs head.... I apologise....
anyhoo. it must be time for me to delete my profile.. and go outside and play in the mud with the wildlife..... they love me..... well they tolerate my living amongst them...
I muttered all the way home... ohh Gawd.. im definitely going to have to delete my profile...
.. and *R* muttered.. gee I wish I was one of her dog's.. (meaning naahmah)
It was nice to meet you scholar... hopefully you will have full memory loss of meeting me shortly.. (or at least anything I said... it's it blackmail worthy?....ha ha ha.. probably everybody knows in my life anyway.. can you tell me?.... lol..nana might be going senile.. one can only hope.. you forget.. you poor darling... ..(if not send me the therapy bill)
