Doesn't seem one specifically aimed at my fellow BC pof'rs (<-- you know if you say pof 'rs outloud, it sound like a type of fish? anyhoooo...) I have a question..
What do YOU do in terms of fitness? Come on fess up that you're a couch potato or brag that you can bench 350
either way.. it's all good in the name of lovin' ourselves
but I am curious as a button.. well?
((slurps coffee)) <--- it wouldn't be me if i didn't do this

| fitness Posted: 8/25/2009 10:05:14 AM | | I bust my arse at work and tell myself that gives me full rights to be a couch potato after working hours and on my days off | |
|
| fitness Posted: 8/25/2009 10:17:30 AM | I don't go to the gym. Never. Ever.
I enjoy doing things and stuff. Those things usually include some type of physical activity, but with my beat up body parts, it's now low impact stuff. My fishing itself can beat the hell out of in shape 20 something guy,,,,I know,,,I've taken some out and by the end of the day they are lagging far behind.
I've never liked to make a schedule or a list on how and what I should do to keep "in shape". I have never been able to keep with it,,,and when I actually label it as "staying in shape" I bore myself so much so that I quickly swerve off the path, usually aiming for a bottle of the good stuff I have hidden away for such times.
|
| fitness Posted: 8/25/2009 10:40:58 AM | Me neither.. never been to a gym ever.. yet I can toss my 5 yr old up in the air over my shoulders for a while and couple smooches plus carry bags of groceries home without breaking too much of a sweat.
My only fitness I would is say is in the fact I am vehicleless.. I walk everywhere.
|
| fitness Posted: 8/25/2009 11:07:06 AM | I have a wellness plan that requires rebuilding weekly (weekly calendar) !
I have a specific route I cover in this fine city for cardiovascular fitness. My attendance to the gym I have a membership to wanes significantly. In all honesty, strange as it may sound, when there is a love interest or possibility….my attendance to the gym and out look skyrockets….he hehee! Kidding aside, I actually am quite serious about fitness and my physical condition. I am more conscious of my health upping the anti of my distance in speed walking feeling healthier knowing where my body is in the way of fitness including what I put in my tummy. I love dancing and have taken and will continue to take dancing lessons. I am definitely challenged and have a blast with the young ones dancing circles around me.

| fitness Posted: 8/25/2009 11:15:45 AM | I was once quite the fat**stardo... I decided to change my lifestyle (10 years ago) and lost the equivalent in weight of my daughter who is 12... Part of the lifestyle change was to incorporate "workout time" into 5 days of my week. I have been a member of my gym for 10 years now and on average I am there at min 4 days of every week. I am addicted to working out now. Summer is usually different as I seek my exercise "outdoors" and love to hike and explore. I play squash 3-5 times a week too.
Working out has tremendous benefits both physically and mentally. I STRONGLY reccomend people doing things that make them sweat!
(and yes, sexual workouts count.... or so I tell my "workout-partner", I tell her that we HAVE to do it because it is good for us... I mean ME)
|
| fitness Posted: 8/25/2009 11:19:55 AM | I go to the gym 2 - 3 times a week and play numerous sports and try to keep active but I know I lack in the cardio area of fitness is something I want to fix.
Yea, all you people with kids and run around trying to keep up with them are pretty fit people cardio wise I agree.

| fitness Posted: 8/25/2009 11:57:52 AM | OP Thanks for starting this thread, for this topic has recently been at the forefront of my thoughts.
Not counting physical education classes in school I've never been to a gym for a workout. I tend to do my exercising at home or in the great outdoors.
I have a fused ankle so that limits me in some ways; I cannot run and have difficult climbing steep inclines. Bicycling is my favourite form of exercise (or are we including "bedroom sports" in this discussion?). As you ladies that have met me already know, I enjoy dancing too.
I've finally recovered from a nasty shoulder injury of last year and have been making up for lost time. Weather permitting I've been getting out for one or two bike rides a day, better part of an hour and at a moderately strenuous pace. I'm delighted to report measurable improvements in my fitness, completing my route in shorter times, and wearing shirts I couldn't wear before. Once the weather changes and it isn't suitable for cycling I intend to continue with other forms of exercise.
I'm making a significant change in my diet, greatly reducing consumption of most animal products. I now eat mostly grains, vegetables and fruit. Speaking of grains, I'm cutting back on wheat. It isn't that I'm allergic to gluten, for I'm not, but wheat isn't that good for us.
I feel so much better and am getting compliments from friends and neighbours.
If this trend keeps up, and I certainly hope it does, for the rest of my life, it won't be long before a woman can wrap her arms all the way around me, unless she has short arms and/or really big boobs.
Hmmm, I guess we'll find out how well I managed with my fitness regime when I greet and hugs all my guests when you come to the dancing event I'm hosting here in October.

| fitness Posted: 8/25/2009 12:10:43 PM | fitness regime waxes and wanes at the best of times... however, i TRY to get there at least 2 times a week. Working out is the ONLY thing that purgues my brain and use it as a stress relief. I have alot of stuff in my I head that I hear throughout the the day and when I need to remember important stuff there simply is no room for it. ok OT: Fitness routine when @ the gym is threadmill walk/ run for 30 minutes, free weights 3 -4 reps of various arm exercises, then to the fitball for abdominals exercises and finally cooling down bike ride 5 minutes. In total I'm there for whole hour. If I feel like shaking it up a bit I will hit the elipitcal machine for 15 minutes as well. The gym where I have my membership currently I'm not found of their elipitial machines so I skip it. I love my IPOD shuffle and have an ecletic mixture of music on there to make my workout routine go by so much faster. I know when I've had a good workout is by how much I sweated and how sore I feel the next day. I'd like to mix up the workout day with outside activities with either whacking some golf balls around , or a good long hike /walk in 1 of the neighbourhood parks. Time to get off the couch and off my arss! Workout and then eat more cookies!!! | |

| fitness Posted: 8/25/2009 12:36:11 PM | Water aerobics has always been my exercise of choice, but I have to admit I've slacked off quite a bit when it comes to exercise. My treadmill still gets used quite regularly, and I took pilates and core classes in the Winter/Spring, but due to health reasons, never renewed my membership.
I'm currently in the market for a cruiser bicycle and plan to go back to the pool.

| fitness Posted: 8/25/2009 12:52:22 PM | There's always Burlesquersize!!!! I'm going soon and would go even sooner if I had a "buddy" to go with! | |

Come on fess up that you're a couch potato or brag that you can bench 350
I can bench press my couch!! Easy! lol
|
| fitness Posted: 8/25/2009 1:10:25 PM | never seen the inside of a gym don't jog or bike around town either a bit of forgetting why I went downstairs when I'm there makes me go back up only to remember what I wanted to do down...so yeah, there is a daily work out of sorts oh and running to and fro the coffee maker for a refill
chasing my horse for hours when I want to go for a ride is another involuntary exercise a few 30 to 50 mile hikes in the mountains, always cursing why I started and playing pioneer chopping fire wood at the cabin is all I do except for a few skiing days
|
| fitness Posted: 8/25/2009 1:45:34 PM |
My treadmill still gets used quite regularly,
^^ What a coincidence! Mine does too ... there are runners placed neatly on it and a box of Big Brothers donations to give away and it is frequently a great clothes dryer for delicate items.... I especially like its usefulness each day as a divider between the office and the living room ! Hooray for Tread mills - the multi purpose fitness machine !
^^^ and bravo for the forum posts no longer on our profile - once more it works for me! hehehe

| fitness Posted: 8/25/2009 3:12:23 PM | | I admit to nothing. | |

| fitness Posted: 8/25/2009 5:08:06 PM | | I watch IronMan events on TV. | |
|
| fitness Posted: 8/25/2009 7:36:49 PM | I have 3 dogs - right now 4. I walk and run with them. If you want to get outside everyday and walk, get a dog. Exercise is not only good for your body but your brain. It helps with memory and problem solving. Think about it, when you exercise it increases the blood flow to every part of your body, including your brain.
A word of caution. It you have been couch potatoeing, check with your physician before beginning an exercise program. Go slowly and listen to your body.
|
| fitness Posted: 8/25/2009 8:48:33 PM | To quote one of my friends, the honest truth is I exercise because "food is my weakness". I do LOVE to eat and frankly there isn't much I don't like. Exercise allows me to continue to enjoy life to the standards that I enjoy participating.
The Grouse Grind has been my obsession the past three years and I try to alternate with running, cycling, hiking, dancing, roller blading and walks. The GG is a quick, convenient cardio workout which I will do alone or with friends. I have registered for my third and fourth half marathons this year to keep on track and plan to do another hike up the Chief and hope to attempt The Lions this year. [on my bucket list]
I have never been much for gyms but have one conveniently located in the building where I work so I have no excuse and admit to visits when I need a quick and sweaty workout before a volunteer shift or to enable me to do an activity right after work.
There is only one other activity/sport that I enjoy because it gets me hot and sweaty but damn that seems to be in short supply these days.

| fitness Posted: 8/25/2009 10:26:22 PM | I'm not a gym rat, nor am I a couch slug either. I have some weight equipment getting dusty, and the kids and I are getting a space ready to put it so that it can get some use. Honestly though, I'd rather go for a long walk somewhere, preferably with others. The daily walks with the dog count a bit, but there are a lot of stops involved, so that doesn't really up the cardio factor until she's done all her business. I must say though between walking the dog, and the sassy dance classes I took last fall/winter has helped me shed close to 35 lbs in a year. | |

| fitness Posted: 8/25/2009 10:39:31 PM | Sea kayaking. Cycling. Karate. Hiking.
And of course, eat well, use herbal supplements to calm body mishaps, remain positive. Nature heals!

| fitness Posted: 8/26/2009 2:18:33 AM | White tiger chick, you already look like, a lean mean, sexy machine.
Actually, Ironman is in town this week, I intend to watch it on TV, the whole thing is quite a circus really. As if that's not enough, I know a chick that completed the darn thing a few years ago. Not only that, that same chick used to drag me to the gym with her about a year ago. I should give that broad a call, she's a pretty good looker actually, and its been over a year since I've seen her, maybe she's not so pissed at me anymore.
|
| fitness Posted: 8/26/2009 8:53:52 AM | I get most of my exercise working on the grounds (almost 1-1/2 acres) which includes a garden and a bunch of fruit trees. Lots already done to make it easy to maintain, but still a great deal to do. Some walking, plus frequent going up and down the stairs between the two floors of the house.
For the winter months, I plan to join the new Aquatic centre in Duncan, which includes a well-equipped gym. Also, I'll use my treadmill at home for the walking part.

| fitness Posted: 8/26/2009 10:13:12 AM | Hmmmm. What do I do in terms of fitness? PROCRASTINATE seems to be my forte lately! I let things go till I notice that a root beer belly and love handles have sneaked up on me (like now) an then go full bore to lose them in two weeks. ( pulled my left bicep right off the bone by doing heavy dumbell preacher curls.) I have no excuses not to exercise as my spare bedroom is equipped as a full gym, have two mountain bikes,16foot canoe and a 12 foot kayak. But I love to drive so much I spend much of my time behind a steering wheel in my class B motorhome. I would like to learn to skip like the boxers do. You can take a skipping rope anywhere. I think I need to find a match with a fitness instructor who is tougher than I am. | |
