| What's with the baby pics for women in their 50s Posted: 8/25/2009 5:52:49 PM | I love kids.. I have two daughters, who are the light of my life, and when they have children, I have little doubt that I'll be thrilled.
Still, I'm really curious about what seems to be a new trend amongst women in their 50s, to have pictures holding their infant grandchildren. This is a dating site, and it seems to detract, a bit, from seeing them as "youthful" and sensual, when attention is drawn to grandchildren visually.
It's not that big a deal. Just more curiousity than anything else. I just wonder what message is intended with those sorts of pictures?

Well maybe.... "I'm a grandma"?
Not everyone is an ageist jerk and some women don't care if YOU don't see them as "youthful" and "sensual" because they love the kids in their lives.

| What's with the baby pics for women in their 50s Posted: 8/25/2009 6:07:40 PM | Op, I met the most charming man on another site...his main picture is him holding his grandson...it didnt age him but it did charm me.
The message is that their family is extremely important and they are looking for someone who values family.
Or they think it's a really good picture :P

| What's with the baby pics for women in their 50s Posted: 8/25/2009 6:29:32 PM | I know a few grandma's who wouldnt look old or non sensual even if they had 10 kids hanging off them! LOL
I think some people like to show what is important to them in thier profiles. Makes sense that they would show themselves as family oriented, and not just talk about being family oriented.

Just think of it this way Ren... all these grandchildren will someday reach 21+ and then you'll be able to include them into your dating pool. (sorry...couldn't resist)

| What's with the baby pics for women in their 50s Posted: 8/25/2009 7:38:07 PM | Oh for Keyyyrists sakes................is that all you think about Ren, youth?
And I highly doubt that those who do have shots of the grandchildren with them care what anyone thinks about it. Let alone men who think it detracts from their 'youth and sensuality.
Just because you don't like grandmothers doesn't mean there's those who don't.
Gimme a break Ren...k? | |

Just because you don't like grandmothers doesn't mean there's those who don't.
I always try to keep Dylan's "Rainy Day Women" in mind, when I post a thread on POF. You know, the one that goes "they'll stone you when you're riding in your car, .....I would not feel so all alone, everyone must get stoned".
I don't "dislike" grandmothers. I've dated several over the past few years. I have a 26 and 21 year old daughter, so I "could" be a grandfather.
The question was about posting pictures with grandchildren on a dating site, because it make me curious about what message is intended. It wasn't a "slam" on anyone....just "wondering".

I wonder the same thing about men who post pics of themselves with dead animals.

And pets. My main picture is my dog and I. I don't have any pictures of just the dog, though. Not sure why people do that.

| What's with the baby pics for women in their 50s Posted: 8/27/2009 9:14:10 PM | So on a date a guy can look forward to watching you cuddle some kid he's not related to, listen to the baby cry, and take a whiff of a soiled diaper. Yup, what a lure...
The job you're applying for is "girlfriend" or "lover" not "hospice attendant".

| What's with the baby pics for women in their 50s Posted: 8/27/2009 9:26:48 PM | I have a picture of my grandson on my profile because he is a major part of my life and I love him more than I could ever convey with words.
Should I hide him, and then sneak out the fact that Im a grandma later.? I think not. Love me, love my grandson. Im not asking anyone to raise him.

I'm not all that keen on children's pics being posted here, no matter what context. It's not appropriate. But perhaps those that do are trying to convey a different message to that of youth and sensuality. Maybe they're "nanna" types - which is cool. When I think of that type, I think of loving, warm, friendly, cuddly, good cooks...

On Topic~
Could be because the "Ye Olde Ladies" wish to share that they are proud, and thrilled, to be a grandparent?
Or, or, or...
Maybe enough male reader's wrote them stating, "If you didn't have that pic of yourself enjoying your grand-motherhood , I would have never believed that you were old enough to be a grandmother! "
Btw, Ren? It's ".... everybody must get stoned"... surprised you got that wrong considering your "penchant" ...

| What's with the baby pics for women in their 50s Posted: 8/28/2009 3:23:32 AM | Ren, while I do not think pictures of children are a good idea for many reasons. A baby in a woman's arms that you know is a grandchild should not really be a deal breaker for you. If a woman in her 50s' is interested in you. Be happy, not critical.
If I pose with a borrowed infant I look to old for you? I shan't be well all day..my smelling salts please
