| A gay President...interesting topic, what is your opinion? Posted: 8/27/2009 5:53:05 AM | This morning my 15 year old daughter came to up me while having breakfast and asked:
"Mom, is it possible to have a gay President?"
My answer to her was, " yes it is possible, but I'm not sure if he could be elected by the people". ( this is if they new his sexual preferences).
Now I'm not so satisfied with my answer. The fact of the person being gay doesn't impair their thinking and doesn't compromise their preparation and experience to handle the job.
Now there is the role model issue...so...
What would you have answered ?

It is true that if an openly gay man or women ran for president they probably wouldn't get elected because of their sexual preference. There are too many anti-gay people out there that would vote against them. I'd personally vote for whoever I thought was the most qualified, regardless of if they liked the same sex or not.

By time Her generation is voting Gay will become meaningless. The gay marriage issue has no pull on a college campus...........
They have confirmed James Buchanan was gay....
8 Track tapes of the Village People and Barbra Streisand have been found in the W/H.................

I'd say its a lot more likely than a woman getting elected.
Honestly, very few people even care about the gender of a political candidate - or race for that matter. The only people who talked about Hillary's gender were old school "Women's Libbers" who haven't realized that for a quarter of a century a young person's first boss, doctor, dentist or professor is just as likely to be a woman as a man.
A gay President is certainly possible - but the kind of typical young people behaviour would give way too much fodder for opponents if the candidate's history involves same sex young person behaviour.
BUT....you'll never see an atheist President. Sure, you have freedom of religion; you just don't have freedom from religion if you want to be involved in politics.

But this sort of thing just drives me nuts. If you need a laugh track, the joke isn't funny. Same with a virtual laugh track - lol, rofl, or stupid laughing emoticon - if you feel the need for it, you should probably just hit the cancel button.

| A gay President...interesting topic, what is your opinion? Posted: 8/27/2009 8:45:43 AM | | Is that better you two little crybabies? The only reason I put it up there is because I thought it's funny and the government is one giant joke already and something like that would just add to the fire and make things worse than they already are. A gay president wouldn't bother me but they would probaly be the next Harvey Milk because some crazy person couldn't handle the thought of a gay president and try to kill them | |

Is that better you two little crybabies? No, actually, it isn't better. It was a disgusting thing to have said--inappropriate and off-topic. As for the 'crybabies' remark--that will get your a s s banned, and I hope it does.
ON TOPIC: I think we'll see a gay male president before we see a gay female president. I'm tired of the whole gay issue--we have so many talented, intelligent, hard-working gay people in all aspects of our lives, just as we do straight people--it simply does not matter.

Obama is most likely to be the last president we ever have. Too many things are pointing towards the New World Order/One World Government. I see it happening within the next 3 to 5 years. Obama as told by Henry Kissinger to be the prime candidate to lead the New World Order.

Just imagine all the wet dreams....Just look at Sarah Palin, she was HOT!, didnt matter that every time she opened her mouth she embarrased herself, that was OK, she's HOT.

Considering how far behind we are in civil rights and acceptance and how out right bigoted we are as a nation, we should hang our heads in shame. Are we better than some places, sure, are we worse than others, you betcha. And we mostly use religion to cover our bigoted asses, just like some backwards nations we like to bash about.

| A gay President...interesting topic, what is your opinion? Posted: 8/27/2009 10:38:15 AM | | OP, I agree with your answer to your daughter basically. We had a hard enough time getting a straight black man (technically 'half-black' & raised by the white part of his family) elected President. And still now there are those who are trying every which way they can (birth certificate BS, etc etc) to imply he should not be the president (even though he was duly elected and won popular and electoral votes fair and square). A (presumably openly) gay president?? While I really personally couldn't care less about the president's sex life, as long as the economy picks up some, the unnecessary wars go away, etc, this will not happen in any of our lifetimes IMO ... that's for certain. | |

I can see a woman president...we had a female prime minister...for a summer. Nice summer job if you can get it. But the party she was leading knew they could not run her as a candidate becasue she would not win. An openly gay president? The christian coallition wouldn't stand for it...simple as that...and you won't BE president without their approval and support.

Interesting question when you consider the newest tell all book out there about Obama. The newest tell all book is written by a man called Larry Sinclair Barack Obama & Larry Sinclair
The biggest untold story of the 2008 U.S. Presidential Election... Finally, the no-holds-barred, 100% true story of Barack Obama's use and sale of cocaine; his homosexual affairs http://search.barnesandnoble.com/booksearch/isbnInquiry.asp?r=1&ISBN=9780578013879&ourl=Barack%2DObama%2DLarry%2DSinclair%2FLawrence%2DW%2DSinclair

| A gay President...interesting topic, what is your opinion? Posted: 8/27/2009 4:58:25 PM | | It will take a while yet because people tend to live out what they learned growing up, and so first you have to teach people to accept what had been unacceptable, then they raise their children who can grow up free from the burden of the old erroneous belief. At the same time there are those whose mission is to conserve prejudices to be handed down as traditions of hatred. Enlightenment happens in a flash to one man, but dawns slowly across the world. | |

True that. It was like watching George W. Bush only somehow it was okay.
Sarah Palin should pick an equally hot female running mate and run for president in 2012. And rather than voicing a stance on any of the issues, they should just make out at every public appearance. I guarantee you they'd get a ton of votes. On the downside, it would probably bring about the whole 2012 end of the world thing.

What would you have answered ? I would have asked her why she hasn't been paying attention in social studies or history class. A 15 year old asked if it was possible to have a gay president? She has no idea the few rules required to be president or about the executive branch? I would have told her to get her textbook. I would have told her to look up the rules for becoming president and for her to tell ME if it was possible to have a gay president. Then I would have told her to look up histories of the presidents so she can possibly prove whether or not we have already had a gay president. Or simply found different books for her to study the subject.
I would probably then say "You are being home schooled, what have they been teaching you the past decade?"

"why haven't you been paying attention in...." is about a lousy way to start a lesson.

Posted: 8/27/2009 10:37:10 PM | The most interesting thing about this discussion is your knee jerk reaction that you later retracted...it's more interesting to reflect on how our culture shapes our views and ideologies...and how much it controls our unconscious....sometimes it can be really hard to think for yourself....
Otherwise, I don't see much of a discussion...because all things being equal...it just doesn't f*ckin' matter....
