Posted: 8/31/2009 8:04:29 PM | Unless someone has been living in a cave the last three years, its common sense to use a cell phone via speaker and not next to the ear all the time. Its akin to when we were kids and were reminded when watching television to not sit so close to the set.

Now since it is a billion dollar industry with lots of cash at stake ...there will be lots of scientists and lawyers (just like the tobacco guys) lining up on each side to go for the money!!!! wonder if we will see class action billion dollar stuff!? we could be rich..or die horribly. Posted: 9/2/2009 9:15:29 PM | A microwave oven can't cause a tumor. It's not that kind of radiation and doesn't cause that kind of change to matter it affects. There really should be some sweeping public service seminar on the meaning of the term "radiation" or they should stop applying it to things that don't go along with the common association, as is the case with light and heat, which are also radiation.
Granted, a cellphone might kills some brain cells, but no more so than turning your head sharply. | |

Posted: 9/2/2009 9:27:21 PM | My brother was a senior scientist for the FCC until his retirement 3 years ago. His field of expertise? Microwave energy! HE resisted getting a cell phone, until a number of family emergencies basically forced him to get one. He rarely uses it.
I've used a cell phone MAYBE a total of 6 times. I don't like 'em, I don't have one, and I don't need one. | |

Posted: 9/5/2009 9:29:21 PM | I use to work in the electrical and computer engineering dept at a major research university. Two different profs were conducting studies on the subject, they both shared with me they will not use cell phones or allow any of their family members to do so because there is a causal effect of brain tumors from cell phones. I was not allowed to use one in the office. I also learned that electric blankets and heating pads can emit enough energy over time to cause cancer. One of the profs has said that cell phones will never be banned because cell phone companies lobby the government to block studies that prove the cancer connection, similar to how tobacco companies use to work.
I use a cell phone but minimally, cancer is on the rise, so why push it? | |

Posted: 9/14/2009 8:01:25 AM | I think the biggest threat too health from a cell phone usage is the people who use them while driving.
Cell phones are an RF Device used to transmit and receive RF (Radio Frequency).
The terms Radiates and radiation in regards to cell phone has to do with the RF pattern, levels and frequencies emanating, (radiating) from the cell phone.
The antennal transmit and receive in an Omni Directional, (all directions), pattern, which gives it the best chance to pick up a tower. The cellular bands are 824MHz – 849MHz and 869MHz – 894MHz, just above the old UHF TV Band ending at 806MHz (Channel 69).
Can RF cause harm? Yes, if exposed for long durations at high power.
The question at hand would be: Would usage of a cell phone provide high enough RF levels and exposure to cause damage at the cellular level?
I tend to doubt it, but that’s just my opinion.

Studies (like the one linked above) disagree with you. They show that there is a correlation between long term exposure to this particular type of RF exposure, and brain cancer. Do you have evidence (preferably a study relating to long term exposure, and it's effect on tissue) to support your argument? Historically, there's loads of evidence that shows long-term stress to tissue causes it to mutate... which is cancerous.
And - I'm not sure how using a Bluetooth is going to resolve anything. Sounds to me like you're just moving the cancer from your brain to... wherever you have the cell phone. | |
