Actually, I don't think it has been under 18c this summer, at least in Vancouver, but Victoria would be pretty much the same.

It was unusually hot and humid this summer. I think we had nearly 3 weeks of temps over 30c and several days where the humidex was near 40c.

Conversely, we had a colder than normal winter this year - and much more snow than usual - especially over the X-mas holidays.

Winters here seldom get below 0c, but be prepared for a lot of rain. Victoria is quite a bit drier than Vancouver (as is White Rock). I think Victoria gets about half the annual rainfall that Vancouver does.

I hope this helps.

go ahead and move to victoria...LOOOOOOOOOL!!!!! the rest of us has been running away from it for years but hey! not everybody needs to see the heads of the people mowing them down on sidewalks cause they should've had their driver's licenses revoked in 1965...LOL...(YIKES!) on the other hand, i hear there's 5 women to every man there so if you can't score there, it's time to give it up, lie down, roll over and take a nice long dirt nap!

I'm not sure about Victoria, but Nanaimo's been pretty nice this year. We had temps in the high twenties and low thirties with the humidex bringing it much higher. We hardly had any rain too, which was kinda nice if you didn't think about all the forest fires, but now it's looking like fall has set in because leaves are turning colour tho I hear it's from such dry weather. Like a pervious poster already said .. the winter rainfall isn't nearly as bad here on the island as it is in Vancouver, and we hardly get any snow .. tho last winter was pretty brutal and landed us up with temps down as low as -19 and the snow just wouldn't melt quickly like it usually does. But it still beats winters in Alberta or northern BC.

I'm a transplant from northern BC, 13 years ago, and I don't think I'd ever leave the Island unless circumstances made it so I had to. I think you'll like the change.

It's been unusually warm in Victoria this summer, and we've had very little rain. Campfires have even been banned in most provincial parks (on Vancouver Island) due to the dryness.

We had some crazy hot days in July.......we even hit 35 a couple times.

No.....you're right. We're certainly not in the middle of a heat wave right now. The weather is actually quite crappy this week, so 16c is probably right for tomorrow.

But we've had terrific weather this summer, especially July. I read somewhere that it was the fourth hottest summer on record for us...

This was the fourth warmest summer on record and one of the sunniest ever.

It is my theory that the weather channel folks are paid by Vancouver to not tell the truth about how great Victoria weather is or all the Vancouverites would move here. More often than not, the daily high ends up higher than predicted and we get less rain than predicted.

I lived in Calgary for 6 years. I'm on my 7th year here - trust me, you'll like Victoria weather much better. There are no real extremes; the hottest days are still bearable (well, except to lifelong Victorians, who are wimps ) and the coldest days can never approach what the rest of Canada dishes up as cold.

We did have a chillier winter last year but weather everywhere was wonky last year. And the little pink blossoms on the trees on downtown Douglas street still came out in January! Other than that, winter temps vary from around a couple degrees below zero to 10 ish. It's rainier in winter but it doesn't rain constantly and 'winter' is much shorter - blossoms start in Feb-March most years.

Just one caution - folks here do not know how to drive in snow - they'll drive too fast for the conditions. I keep my car safely indoors if it snows; don't want to hazard getting dinged.

My folks lived here for a long time; I'd often come for Christmas - and go for a walk to roses - which were still blooming - needing only a sweatshirt as outerwear.

This is a great place to be - it's gorgeous, easy to get around in (the joke is that you never need drive more than 10 minutes to get anywhere - truth is the most you'd need is 30 but you have to cross the city to do it).

There's plenty to do, too. I couldn't keep visitors entertained for more than a day in Calgary - here, I tell them they need a week to scratch the surface. For a small burg, Victoria's got a lot going on. Among other things, due to the great weather there are lots of outdoor free (or really cheap) music events. Calgary couldn' t hold a match to Victoria in that regard despite being six times larger!

I'm betting that you'll love this place!

I've lived on the Island pretty near my whole life and it's really nice! I've just moved to victoria myself, but being from nanaimo (only about 1 hour 45 minutes away) I've visited victoria lots! The weather this summer has been great! When it rained it was what we needed so everything didn't dry out. Winter does get pretty chilly, but probably nothing close to what you are used to! The snow is a really wet snow that goes slushy and can be quite troublesome to drive in, but a good rain will generally melt it all away. This past winter was pretty nasty with the snow in Nanaimo, and the snow removal isn't top notch up there but It's all part of the experiance haha.

All in all, four seasons to be sure! Rainy in the spring and fall, but still able to be out side in most seasons without being too hott or too cold!

(Plus, it's a nice place to be - quite a bit to do, and very beautiful!)

guitarman100 - I moved here this past year from Edmonton -----Victoria is an incredibly beautiful laid back city. I have been here for 6 months now and have found much of what the negative people told me untrue. First of all there are many young people here and of all ages ...not newly wed and nearly dead. Second while it is a slower pace than Edmonton ( and much smaller ) it has a charm that is like a UK city....the weather is amazing and even though again many people try to be negative about the rain , I imagine these people have never endured a prairie winter as you and I have. I can live with some drizzle and lack of sun if I can go out in a sweater and not have to shovel just to find my car

The truth is Vancouver get double and then some of the rain and Victoria is the mildest climate in all of Canada

I do not for a second regret moving here .....I have talked to many people who hav relocated here and no one would ever go back ....

I'm not saying ....but i'm just saying ........

Victoria 608 mm (23.9 in) of rainfall per year
Vancouver 1,219 mm (48 in) of rainfall per year

CLIMATE ( for Victoria from Wikipedia )

Victoria has a temperate climate that is usually classified as Marine west coast (Cfb),[7] with mild, damp winters and relatively dry and mild summers. It is sometimes classified as a Mediterranean climate (Csb), due to its usually dry summers.[8]

Daily temperatures rise above 30°C (86°F) on an average of one or two days per year and fall below -5°C (23°F) on an average of only 2 nights per year. During the winter, the average daily high and low temperatures are 8°C (47°F) and 4°C (38°F), respectively. The summer months are equally mild, with an average high temperature of 20°C (67°F) and low of 11°C (52°F). Victoria does occasionally experience more extreme temperatures. The highest temperature ever recorded in Victoria was 36.1°C (97°F) on July 16, 1941,[9] while the coldest temperature on record was -16°C (4°F) on December 29, 1968 and January 28, 1950.
Colourful flowers bedeck the genteel "Garden City" downtown

Total annual""" precipitation"" is just 608 mm (23.9 in) at the Gonzales weather station in Victoria, contrasted to nearby Seattle, (137 km/85 mi away to the southeast), with 970 mm (38.2 in) of rainfall, or Vancouver, 100 km away, with 1,219 mm (48 in) of rainfall. Perhaps even more dramatic is the difference in rainfalls on Vancouver Island. Port Renfrew, just 80 km from Victoria on the wet southwest coast of Vancouver Island receives 3,671 mm (144.5 in). Even the Victoria Airport, 25 km north of the city, receives about 45 per cent more precipitation than the city proper. One of the most striking features of Victoria's climate is the distinct dry and rainy seasons. Nearly two thirds of the annual precipitation falls during the four wettest months, November to February. Precipitation in December, the wettest month (109 mm/4.3 in) is nearly eight times as high as in July, the driest month (14 mm/0.55 in). During the summer months,

Victoria is the driest major city in Canada.
