| Karaoke at The Blue Lagoon Hove 5th September 2009 Pix and Comments Posted: 9/6/2009 12:52:55 PM | Where to start???
Quite simply, this was a cracking night's entertainment!
Once again, a huge "thank you" to the staff of the Blue Lagoon for making us all so welcome. Despite the huge turn-out, the bar-staff did an excellent job of keeping us stocked up with alcohol and mop-buckets, and Bernie ensured that the evening never stopped rocking!
Well done to all those who sang - we're a pretty easy crowd to please, but the standard was remarkably high, and the choice of songs was just about spot-on! I was particularly impressed by the guy who sang Bridge Over Troubled Water right at the end - not only was the singing flawless, but he managed to 'ignore' the good-natured comments about his uncanny resemblance to Gordon Ramsay!
I also must thank Steve and Charles for their help with the Queen songs, and for making Bo Rhap less of an ordeal for the audience! Apologies are due to Lezley - there wasn't time for Crazy Little Thing, but remind me the next time....x
As usual, thanks are due to everyone for simply turning up and recreating that special atmosphere, as well as for ensuring that no-one left the stage to stunned silence!
'Congratulations' are due to Antonia for her recent engagement to some lucky fella!
As ever, it was good to see the usual mix of friends old and new, and to meet others for the first time. After four years of staring at each other on the site, it was wonderful to finally meet Billie-Jo AND feel her hair over my scalp!
The place was heaving with bonhomie, hugs, chatter etc, and it's always a moving experience to see our friends on the site just enjoying each other's presence.
I'll upload the pix when I've worked out how to rip them from Mark and Roj's profiles, and any other sources will be much appreciated.
The pub has indicated that we're all welcome in October....
A roll-call of my buddies would take all night (and my memory isn't what it used to be!) but I have to say huge thanks to Perri and Jacquie for their support, comment, texts (!) and advice.

There were quite a few meet virgins who echoed Lou and Tina's view about being made welcome at the Blue Lagoon, and not just by me. I was so pleased to see most of them in conversation with us right from the word 'go'. I suppose that being in a crowd made it easier to start up conversations - no-one was more than a foot or so from the nearest person. Plus, they are a friendly bunch on the south-coast, and have even made this bloody Northerner feel part of it all!
So, I'm pleased that you enjoyed yourself, Paula, and that Nicky and the rest did, too.
Note to everyone - you're only a virgin once!
Mark did an excellent job on two fronts. Not only did he take some cracking pix, but he knows how to mingle on these occasions and get people chatting to each other. Plus, it means that I'm not the only gobby one in the crowd!
Badge, I'm more than comfortable with my rampant heterosexuality to be able to wear a Queen shirt at any time, but don't forget we were in Hove, actually, not Brighton...!
You're right about getting out there and meeting people from the site - it's far better than endless emailing!
Glad you enjoyed the rugby, Debbie, and I hope the Quins sending-off so early didn't spoil the second match - Sharon moaned about it straight away, lol! Hope to see you at the next karaoke.
I'm aiming for late October, mainly because the landlady is unavailable for a fortnight, and I wish to confer with her before naming a night. If anyone has any particular reason for wanting to hold one on a certain night, please let me know!
(sigh) As for the pic, Puddles, I was simply hoping to demonstrate that we men can multi-task when required. You'll notice that in one hand, I'm holding a small useful object that, if I could get it to work properly, it would give some pleasure to the three gorgeous women singing away just to my left.
In my other hand, I'm holding a video camera......
