OU, worry or panic?

After losing the home opener against BYU, is it time for Oklahoma to start panicing?

BYU is a ranked team, and OU did lose their QB, but that was at the end of the first half and they weren't crushing BYU.

Their QB is likely to miss 3 weeks, another loss fully eliminates OU from a sniff at the National Title. Even when they get Bradford back, UT will be waiting for them. Is there any reason to believe OU can even compete with the Longhorns, or OSU for that matter?

OU lost most of its O-line last year, and I dont think they are capable of the High-powered offense weve come to expect from them.

OU is looking at 3 losses this season, with potential for more.

If your a OU fan are you worried about the loss, or are you paniced about the season?

It's neither time to worry or panic because Oklahoma's season is badly in jeopardy even with Bradford....

It's doubtful they will beat Texas or Oklahoma State even with Bradford......

BYU had more of incentive to win the game as 36 of their football players are married.

as far as the National championship goes they're done

They're still alive in the Big XII though and if they can beat UT they would probably win it, right now i can't see them having much of a shot against UT though

According to the media Gresham is out as well. Another huge loss for them. Their next two games will be wins. Bradford might be back by the Miami game. Who knows how sharp he will be by then. Starting to wonder if Stoops is regretting not developing a backup QB last year?

Their OL may be shaky but lets keep one thing in mind. All those OL were highly recruited and are going to need some time to gel. They still have a good running game. The D will keep them in every game.

BYU is a ranked team, and OU did lose their QB
if this had been 15 or so years ago, I would have thought that OU would still have a chance to recover: a big state-school/football powerhouse would have enough physical underclassmen/adequate understudy QB's to still make a run at something, although it would take some luck...

...fast forward to today: the Big 12 has become a high-scoring finesse league. I'm not criticizing that fact; but when you lose your starting QB in a conference that passes so often as to create a hazard for low-flying aircraft, you might want to start looking at having season tix holders make reservations for bowl games in December, not January.

Again, not being critical; finesse conferences produce damn good teams-can we say USC?- but (to paraphrase very badly) When You Live By The High-Scoring Offense, You Die By The High-Scoring Offense...

I think some of this goes to last year and giving Bradford all the playing time for the Heisman numbers and not giving the #2 any playing time in the blowouts?

No panic yet. You all know how the sooners are. They do this kinda stuff all the time.
It's when they don't come out of it that I get in the panic. They are slow starters, always have been.

I'm staying cool (did go ahead a buy an orange shirt, though, just in case).

OU needs to think about going to Miami before even thinking about Texas or Oklahoma State.

They have Idaho State and Tulsa, both at home... Hopefully they can recover in those two games... and put something together for that road game to Miami.

Miami on the other hand plays Georgia Tech, than travels to Virginia Tech... before hosting Oklahoma. As long as no one gets seriously hurt.... They will be ready for Oklahoma... and that might be Bradford's game back.

If I was an OU fan.... that would be the game I would be looking forward to.

The college football championship is really a 12 or 13 game playoff. If you're going to lose one it's best to lose early in the season rather than later.
One game doesn't make the whole season and there's still a lot of teams which looked good last Saturday that will lose one later on down the road.
Remember, Texas looked like world beaters last year, then they screwed up against Texas Tech. Nobody's immune from dropping a game.

For Oklahoma to have a hope of making the championship game ( and it's a slim hope ), they have to win every other game this season all the way. Otherwise, they can hope they don't have more than 1 or 2 more losses, go to a minor bowl, and come back stronger next year.

By the way, has anyone else noticed that Oklahoma's never been able to get over the hump since Mike Stoops ( Bob's brother ) left and took the head coaching job at Arizona ?

USC got bumped off yesterday and Florida didn't exactly look like a superteam against Tennessee.
There's still a lot of games left to be played, who's going to fall before the end ?

Although I hate them, to be fair, I wouldn't be surprised to see Miami in the championship game. Maybe, Miami vs Texas if Texas can get past Oklahoma .

does it really matter if o.u. gets into the bcs game, they will just lose anyway. just find it funny that they call stoops " big game bob" , i just thought that was reserved for people who won the game. also about the gators not looking great, they didnt, but the fact is they won. secondly u picked texas to play in the bcs game, iam not saying they wont, but it odd how you said the the gators didnt look that good but yet they had the same margin of victory as texas did, both won by 10 points!

At this point of the season, I'm only trying to find the most likely teams. Miami and Texas seem, right now, to be the teams to beat. However, that could change on any single play between now and December.
The further the season progresses the more " sudden death " it becomes. The less any team can afford to make that one fatal mistake which loses a game and knocks them out of the championship.

Right now ( and I mean, right now ) the teams to beat or be beaten seem to be.....

Florida, Miami, and Texas.

Interestingly, Miami and Texas both play Oklahoma. Wouldn't it be funny if Oklahoma beat both of them ?

If there is only 1 undefeated team in the BCS before bowl play begins & OU wins out they could easily end up in the BCS title game from strength of schedule alone. Of course being a Longhorn I hope that won't happen. HOOKEM HORNS!

Obviously the pollsters need to take strength of schedule into consideration, rather than strength of reputation.

4 teams ranked above Oklahoma got knocked off this week.
Mississippi
Penn St.
Cal
and Miami

Apparently, Miami wasn't the powerhouse I thought they were.
Perhaps they were looking ahead to playing OU next week and not on Virginia Tech. like they should have been.

The Miami game will be a big test for the Sooners. If Sam Bradford is cleared to play should they go with him ? Or keep Landry Jones as the starter who's played great the last 2 games. Although, beating Idaho and Tulsa are not big accomplishments.
Frankly, I think Miami is still probably the better team and should win ( and I hate to say that ).

Florida and Texas still seem the teams to beat, or get beaten since there's still a lot of screw up time left in the season. Just ask Cal and USC.
If Oklahoma can get past Miami and Texas and win out the rest of the season, there's still a chance they could be in the BCS championship game where we'd all like to see them. Maybe even win it this time.
