| here we go......... again!! Posted: 9/8/2009 4:24:30 AM | I'll do my best to keep it short and sweet- about 2 years ago I had surgery on my brain stem due to soemthing called a Cavernous Angioma (tangle of blood vessels, that, er, bled lol). The angioma, when it bled, caused lots of symptoms, basically I had a series of strokes. Now after the whole recovery and rehabilitation ( which basically amounted to lying in bed for six months and being pathetic!) I went on to resume exercise, set up a business, and generally be fine. Now I'm still fine , outwardly, and apart from my somewhat haphazard balance you'd never know that there was something or anything wrong with me, but a recent MRI found that I've developed another of these little blighters. In a much less dangerous place (back of the cerebellum- if you're interested!), but sttill, something I could definitely do without!! I would be ever so grateful for any advice relating to this. Specifically-is anyone aware of anything which can lessen the chances of a bleed? or has anyone got any tips of not letting this new development phase me? Has anyone got any brain injury/recovery stories?? Ta folks. | |

Did you ask these questions to your doctors?

| here we go......... again!! Posted: 9/8/2009 5:43:22 AM | | Thanks.Yeah I quizzed my neurosurgeon, but busy and important as he is, I didn't really get answers. What I'm really looking for is some tips to stay sane and really control and manage this and my state of mind. I'm trying to stay positive, and that's pretty much my natural state of being anyway, but it'd be helpful to get others experiences and tips. | |

| here we go......... again!! Posted: 9/8/2009 5:53:04 AM | I don't know much about your condition, sorry....and even if I did, I'm not qualified to be able to give any advice.
Staying positive can be difficult during times like this, but the one thing that has helped me stay focused during my worst times is excercise...any form. I took up belly dancing, and its been one of the best things I could have ever done.
I don't know if you're limited as far as physical excercise goes, but if you can find something thats good for you and you actually enjoy doing, it would definitely be a blessing...releasing endorphins is beneficial to mental health, and will help you stay positive, not to mention keep you in better shape :)
Other then that, stay busy doing things you enjoy and surround yourself with positive people..Good luck!

| here we go......... again!! Posted: 9/8/2009 7:08:23 AM | Amazing anything works at all.
So many obscure ways to screw up.
I couldn't think of a worse place to ask for advice with a brain-threatening problem. :)
google, google, google 'til your sick of it, back off, then google some more.
And if you can afford it, keep consulting other doctors. I found their opinions and controversies, and personal interest/commitment to your case, vary all over the ballpark for diagnosis, treatment, prognosis.
There is even a new buzzword, "moving towards evidence-based medicine", which makes one ask WTH is the other medicine based on?
one answer: "profit-based medicine" aka, whatever treatments make the most $$ for the "care" providers.

| here we go......... again!! Posted: 9/8/2009 12:13:28 PM | I was thinking that you should have a really good talk with doctors about what could help prevent this from happening again. There may be a certain diet or certain exercises that could physically help you. As well as certain diet and exercise may be harmful to your case.
Googling can be helpful but you could also land on bad information and not know it at the time.
You really need the help of a professional on this. Do you have a family doctor?

| here we go......... again!! Posted: 9/8/2009 9:18:31 PM | | hi OP, you have come such a long way already and I am sorry to read that some issues have slightly resurfaced... I agree with the poster who said that info is your best friend...if this was happening to me I would make a call to Dr Gabriel Cousens at Tree of Life Rejuvenation centre in Patagonia Arizona, I would also call Dr John McDougall to see if they have references for you and lastly I would ask Dr Doug Graham these question on his forum.... many blessings for healing | |

Just one piece of advice, be careful of the advice you take. Often those with a confirmation bias based agenda will suggest "alternative medicine" as an avenue without any regard to the fact that there is no empirical or scientific basis to them. While there may be some relief due to placebo effect, there is the risk of damage to your health in putting your health concerns in the hands of "woo woo" belief systems, not to mention the utter waste of money involved.
Caveat Emptor. | |
