I think it is ridiculous. Just be honest people. It is shows lack of self respect. Judt because you live around majority whites doesn't mean you are. It's just like the white guy who trys to be black or the white girl who trys to be mixed, mezo etc.........I don't care if it's a sensitive subject because it shouldn't be sensitive it should be seen as pathetic. I think if you can't be proud of your heritage than I should not respect you, and if you can't be honest about your race what else do you lie about.................everything? | |

Some of them are asian or even look mexican. They have pics of their families next to them, sometimes the familly looks dark and or mexican. It would be interesting to hear explanations!.

I believe some would point to the three "primary" race descriptors as "Caucasoid, Negroid, Mongoloid".
Color being only one value attached and at that not a definitive one. Bone structure, facial features and many others being more prominent.
The primaries extrapolate further into races that divide even as far as religion.
Anytime there is a separation of many generations that result in physical differences that are measurable, a value of race can be assigned.
No beneficial reason to be dishonest of race. No race is superior of others in all ways. Some have certain advantages as do others. Together we are all equal.
Except one.
There is a race that, at times, is the worst on this planet.

It is also more than just complexion, forsenics study of bone structure and certain physical characteristics can determine the race of any human being. Look , if he lies he LIES, ignore him, if he isnt proud of who is he, ignore him, kick him to the curb, who cares if he's not honest about his race, you know how many women on here do the same thing, and guess what, the sun comes up tomorrow, Obama is still president at least for the next 3 years, the Fiesta Bowl will be played on New Years Day and the Buffalo Bills still suck.

My father was brought up to be ashamed of being Native American (his father) and passed as white. Whites used to treat Native Americans so badly that some "passed" as Mexican to get jobs in my grandfather's day. Since I've never experienced the bad part of what a Native American has gone thru it feels as though I would be seen as just another person that has decided being Native is cool and a way to get the few perks. I didn't earn any of it so I still call myself white. | |

Bet you're right about that. I haven't noticed this, but I rarely look at the Ethnicity option unless someone is exotic enough that I'm curious, and then it usually says "Mixed."

Middle Eastern people can be black! There's a tremendous range of feature, color, and hair with Middle Eastern ancestry.
And many Native Americans prefer "Indian." Or sometimes American Indian. I don't think I met one Native, when I visited Arizona, who didn't prefer "Indian." (I'm not sure what the reasoning is and I was afraid to ask.) | |

Perhaps if you googled both terms you would better understand why people who are "mexican" as an example can rightfully declare that they are "Caucasian" without them lying. The label of race in and of itself is absurd considering how at one point all humans originated from Africa - it's difficult, if not impossible to draw the line between for example calling a Pakistani "Asian" and a native Chinese person "Asian". Most people in north america would not consider the former to be Asian, whereas those from the UK consider Pakistanis to be Asian.
